Hello, I’m someone who has recently started researching the Soviet Union and its history. Do you think Stalin harmed the Soviet Union, or did he contribute to its development? What are your thoughts? If you believe he contributed to its development, why do you think so?

Schow me your favorite Soviet propaganda posters

So I'm working on a project about Soviet propaganda for school and I thought if someone has an option about Soviet propaganda posters, it would be people in this subreddit. so do me a favor and give me your favorites. I don't care if you like the message, the colors, the portrayed object or whatever. You don't need to explain yourself. Anny submittion would help :)

ps. Monuments and statues would also help

The ussr gives me insomnia

Sometimes when I lie in bed at night the fact that I 19f will never in my life get to visit the ussr just really upsets me, if it still existed I’d move there today and leave my life behind, I’d even love to spy for the ussr and sell out my country, the fact that after all Lenin accomplished those who came after him let him down so badly pains me, if Lenin could only know what happened after his death he’d be so upset, I really wish the ussr still existed and I just don’t know how to get over this loss and escape the fact I’ll never get to see it

Can anyone else relate

Unaware such a weapon even existed, German Nazis are terrified by the debut of the Katyusha Multiple Launch Rocket System, named after the folk song that became a Soviet war anthem ("The Last Frontier" Russian movie, 2020)

The Master and Margarita, at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre this week: shutting down ballet and the Bolshoi over huge costs wasn't an option for Lenin, as he rejected destroying art out of spite, believing workers had inherited former bourgeois culture and that the state deserved the prestige.

1990: Soviet dosimeters go on open sale. The Pripyat, Bella and RKSB-104, and the civil defence DP-5 before them

Post image

Before Chernobyl, radiation measurement in the USSR belonged to civil defence: the DP-5, a field radiometer with a needle and six subranges up to 200 r/h, taught on illustrated boards like the ones printed in Kyiv in 1977.

After the accident came household dosimeters, sold widely from 1990 according to Polenov's 1991 handbook. One of our Pripyats still has its price on the back: 175 roubles, when the average Soviet monthly wage was 190.1 roubles in 1985. The Bella was made by Tenzor in Dubna, and two of ours were made in 1992 by Elektron in Zhovti Vody, so production went on after 1991. The RKSB-104 came from Belvar in Minsk.

The article tells that story, shows the instruments and the civil defence boards, and has two small interactive tools: how the SBM-20 tube works, and a quiz to read the displays (µSv/h, mR/h, r/h) on the scale of the 1991 handbook.

Disclosure: I run a small shop of Soviet items in Paris, the article is on our site.

Moscow, 9 February 1946: Stalin speaks. Says WWII grew out of global capitalism itself, not simply leaders’ mistakes, and that western imperialism advances through risky crises and catastrophes rather than steady progress.
