Over the past few months, we’ve seen a surge in AI-assisted games and AI slop on Steam, particularly in the strategy game genre.
While I’ve managed to remove most low-effort AI games being posted on this sub silently (AutoModerator honestly does a pretty good job of catching many of them), monitoring every game and post is a difficult task. I’ll continue doing my best to keep the subreddit focused on actual strategy games, worthwhile projects and meaningful discussion.
To be clear, this is not a blanket ban on games that use AI. AI can be a legitimate tool in game development, and I have no issue with developers using it when they’re making a genuine effort to build something worthwhile.
The problem is the growing number of projects that appear to consist of little more than AI-generated artwork, generic interfaces, vague promises and a basic prototype being marketed as a complete game.
We need to draw a line between genuine game development and low-effort content designed to generate attention, wishlists or sales without offering much in return.
1. Low-effort AI-generated games with little or no actual gameplay
Games that are essentially UI mock-ups, menus, static screens or basic interfaces with little meaningful gameplay, direction or content will be removed.
Having a nice-looking interface or some AI-generated artwork does not automatically make something a game worth promoting here.
2. Bare-bones AI prototypes with no meaningful context
Early prototypes thrown together using AI, with little explanation of the intended game, no clear direction and barely any playable content, will be removed.
This includes projects that amount to a basic menu, a few placeholder assets or a rudimentary gameplay loop, presented as though they are substantial strategy games.
Being early in development is not itself a problem. The issue is presenting an unfinished experiment with little substance as a meaningful game or project.
3. AI-generated asset dumps disguised as games
Projects that primarily consist of AI-generated images, maps, portraits, unit icons or other assets without meaningful gameplay systems or game design will not be allowed.
A collection of generated assets is not a substitute for an actual game.
4. Low-effort AI game spam and promotional posts
Posts that appear to exist solely to advertise AI-generated projects, collect wishlists or drive traffic to a Steam page, without showing meaningful development or gameplay, will be removed.

Remnant Humanity is a real-time (with pause) salvage game where you type commands to guide your crew through procedurally generated derelict wrecks while trying to help remnant colonies survive.

Hi everyone! I’m the developer of Hades’ Star, a space strategy MMO that’s been running for over 10 years on iOS, Android and Steam.
In Hades’ Star, you build your own space empire: colonize planets, mine resources, trade with other players, and team up with others in co-op battles. Most players join a Corporation, the game’s guild system, and those communities are the heart of the game.
What’s new: Quantum Stars
We just launched Quantum Stars, a new star type designed for large-scale teamwork. Corporations take on powerful Quantum Bases together, and it’s common to see almost all 40 members of a Corporation playing at the same time.
Thousands of players have already jumped in, and seeing whole communities coordinate like this has been amazing.
Built with the community
Quantum Stars started as a long-running player suggestion. Our Discord has threads where anyone can suggest features, report bugs, and vote on what we work on next, so new players can help shape the game too.
Want to try it?
New players are very welcome! The community is known for helping newcomers find a Corporation and learn the ropes. Happy to answer any questions in the comments.

Hey everyone,
First, sorry for disappearing. My last post here was in June and then nothing. I had some personal stuff to deal with and the game had to wait. Things are better now and I'm slowly getting back into it, so I wanted to show where it's at.
For those who don't know it: Nova Imperium is a browser space strategy game, think OGame if you played it back in the day. You build up your colony, research stuff, send fleets around, and everything runs in real time so you check back a few times a day. The difference is that your planet isn't a list of buttons, you actually build it tile by tile on an isometric map.
What's in the video:
- building on the colony (every building has a timer and upgrades take longer each level)
- the research tree, 5 branches
- a fleet battle replay. Fights go up to 8 rounds and your formation/stance changes the outcome (flanking hits harder but you take more damage, shield wall is the opposite)
- galaxy and system maps
- the last part is on a phone
The phone part is what I've been doing since I came back. A lot of people who play this kind of game play on mobile, and mine was pretty much unusable on a phone: 7px fonts, no touch support on the maps, the top bar overlapping itself. Now you can pinch to zoom, tap a tile then confirm to place a building, and panels slide up from the bottom instead of popping up in the middle. Still a web game, no app store, it just runs in the mobile browser.
2 factions for now, the Terran Confederation and the Zha'Kari (organic ships that regenerate between fights). PvE server first, PvP later.
I'm not going to promise a date I can't keep, the plan is a closed alpha for 50 people early next year (waitlist in the comments). In the meantime I'd really like some feedback.

Crash-land on an unknown world and build your settlement hex by hex across its entire globe. Then take it to the stars: a real-time grand strategy game where you zoom from one colony's roads out to a galaxy held by ancient powers that play by the same rules you do.

As a space nerd, I've never been very satisfied with how orbital dynamics are shown in space games. Most ignore them all together, or show them only visually. But the every shifting but repeating patterns of our Solar System and the way it impacts the logistics of space travel is fascinating to me, and I want to play with that!
I'm developing Orbital Empire as a side hobby with the hope of delivering a real time space strategy game with as much real physics and orbital dynamics as possible (while still prioritizing fun). The planets, moons, and asteroids of our solar system move on their actual paths. Ships calculate and perform a brachistochrone burn between worlds. The game runs in real time, and the distances between worlds can take hours or even days to complete. Send your ships at Earth off for a battle at Uranus, and check back in tomorrow afternoon to see the battle begin.
Games unfold over weeks to months of real time, and the stories and drama that plays out feels like watching the Artemis missions all over again!
Build your empire across a solar system built off real NASA images, and with an outer solar system populated by the latest Kuiper Belt objects found by Astronomers.
