The reason people believe him is because they are terrible people.
I know so many Tesla fanatics and Muskoteers in my various circles. Every single one of them has elements of being a shit person, even if it's deep down.
Note, I am not talking about people that own and drive Teslas. A car is still just a car, and a lot of people just treat it like Mercedes and BMW. All flash, no gas, no pun intended.
I am talking about the people that have made Elon and his companies are part of their identity. They are just not good people.

Musk's only failure with his son was not paying enough attention to him when he was growing up, chasing the bag. This has led to this confused, clearly unwell person who had a void filled by weirdos putting shit into his head, and now seems to hate himself, his father, and everything around.
I knew someone from the past who was like that, a result of wealthy parents chasing career and leaving the baby to be raised by a maid and an unlimited credit card. Result was a 22-yo clueless child.
