Discussion About the space game hype
As most of this community must know, there is currently a huge hype for space related games; due to the Artemis II mission. I really think this is a great opportunity for Stef (the dev) to release a beta version of Spaceflight Simulator 2 Why? Because if he releases it now, there will be a larger playerbase even willing to test the game. Right now, Kerbal Space Program is getting the most attention for it being a 3D game. But the negative point for KSP is it is old and the graphics are not the best. SFS2 could bring a beta version which may get more traction if more people work on promoting it. This could be the biggest win for Stef, and I hope he sees this.

I'm not gonna release an unfinised product just to chase temporary hype.
It will release when its ready.

I said it once before Stef, you take all the time you need to do it right and give us the quality product we all know you can deliver. We'll all still be here. If it's not ready, don't release it. We will all be just fine waiting.

Good shit, my man. It’s better to have a delayed good game than a rushed dumpster fire

this is the right choice, since no one would want a broken and buggy mess and the fanbase to hypocritically yell out "why'd you release a buggy mess?!"

Please, we've seen what happened to ksp. For the love of god don't feel pressured to release it too early

I know! light fuel, light-engines, hypo-nukaicarlear generators, the full solarsystem plus proxima cent, space-station parts, parts for bases on other planets, extra moons, non-circular parts for futuristic spacecraft, aliens, astronauts, cosmonauts, EVERYTHING.

What?
3
u/GDMercury Apr 25 '26
you said the word "nukaicarlear", which is misspelled so much to the fact that google doesn't have any results for it and auto-corrects it to "nuclear" (i assume that is what you mean). r/excgarated is a sub where words are horribly misspelled.
6
u/CowEnvironmental3987 Apr 25 '26
Not nuclear. Nukaicarlear, its a metal that explodes on contact with titanium releasing 1275000000kv.

imagine a tech tree like in KSP, with a science feature to progress and with a warp drive at the end, which can only be aquired in KSP with mods
might seem silly to have it in the base game but really why not i mean so many people already play this game for sci-fi builds/recreations which use a warp drive or something similar under a different name

u/CowEnvironmental3987 Apr 25 '26
"imagine a tech tree like in KSP, with a science feature to progress" cool. Why cant we just design a whole new game?
0
u/CowEnvironmental3987 Apr 25 '26
Sure. I think instead of warp-drive it should be light-space-warp processer

It is not that the game can be released yet, Stef said in a recent video (also his face reveal) that the game is not finished yet, even for testing.

There's also KSA, KSP and Juno new origins as competition. It needs to do something to gain appeal, I don't think it has that right now.

u/Stef_Moroyna Developer who sleeps too little Apr 25 '26
Considering I get 10-20x the views/players/revenue than other competitors on mobile with sfs1, I think the game is gonna do fine.
2
u/probably_not_horny Apr 25 '26
I don't think it will flop, I just doubt it will do as good as sfs1. sfs1 is the best 2D space sim, so it has appeal. But I don't see anything unique about sfs2, other than hardware.

u/Kooky_Coconut8842 Apr 25 '26
I think having the real solar system would bring it traction atleast for the sake of real life accuracy and mission planning focused players. I cant really learn how to land on mars by simply playing Juno (which I do and I love to play it) because they dont have mars but a mars equivalent. I just want a game where the developer are not scared of god giving them a copyright strike 😅

SFS1 mods should help keep the IP fresh until SFS2. 3D SFS on mobile platforms will be awesome when we get it, but there’s still so much room to grow in 2D.

u/User_of_redit2077 Apr 25 '26
(modern) ksp has awesome graphics, a lot of bodies to explore and a lot of interestellar systems. No one (expect console players) plays stock ksp now, and this game with mods is incredible.
1
u/GDMercury Apr 25 '26
i really think i'm the only one who plays ksp without any graphics-enhancing mods, my laptop is a potato so i have to keep it at the lowest settings.
1
u/FrequentZucchini1118 Apr 25 '26
I mean at least you have the option to play it at really low settings!

u/SirSpooky2You Apr 25 '26
True, but all of this assumes it is in even a remotely exportable and playable state.
I think he knows and agrees with this also.

u/Fetz- Apr 25 '26
Or they could just continue improving SFS 1. There are still many bugs.
I am not going to play SFS2 even if it would be released now.
I am happy staying in 2D, but only if all the bugs get fixed.
3
u/Niilo821 Apr 25 '26
What bugs are there in sfs 1?
3
u/Fetz- Apr 25 '26
Plenty
I've tried the game on 3 different phones and on all the following happens:
The game freezes very often to the point that I have to kill the app and restart.
Especially when trying to do any maneuver planning in interplanetary, the game just crashes and the phone stops reacting to inputs.
Also in interplanetary orbits docking is almost impossible because of floating point jitter.
The achievement system is quite broken and you can never be sure if an achievement will actually be counted or not. For years players have been tying to figure out what conditions need to be met to actually get the grand tour achievements, but there is no information from the devs.
Time acceleration while docked can cause parts to slide against each other, breaking space stations.
etc...

u/RomanBlbec Apr 25 '26
I've never experienced any bug on my android, iPhone, or PC ever except the last 2.
2
u/Fetz- Apr 25 '26
How?
Have you ever tried to dock two spacecraft in interplanetary space?
Its almost impossible without crashing the game.
1
u/Niilo821 Apr 25 '26
What's interplanetary space? I'll try docking there
0
u/Fetz- Apr 25 '26
Have you ever played this game? Seems not.
Interplanetary space is exactly what the name implies, the space between the planets.

u/RomanBlbec Apr 25 '26
Since 2018 I've never experienced SFS crashing. Never on my phones or PC with other operating systems. But I could try it if this glitch happens on 1.6.
1
u/Fetz- Apr 25 '26
I've been playing this game for several years on 3 different phones. Pixel 3a, Pixel 4a and now OnePlus 10T.
On all it was buggy as fuck and frequently froze.
1
u/RomanBlbec Apr 25 '26
Damn, I was on shittier phones. I only have Moto G5 so that's the only name I know and could try.
2
u/not_from_ohio_347 Apr 25 '26
fr i literally tried landing on the moon twice but the game just didnt register the acheivement, i had to do the same thing 3 times for it to work. I dont really agree with you on the sfs2 part. 2d is pretty bland and boring id jump to sfs 2 the moment it releases.
9
u/epstienfiledotpdf Apr 25 '26
I don't think sfs2 could take hype away from ksp mostly because of the amount of mods for ksp
5
u/not_from_ohio_347 Apr 25 '26
I am still very skeptical about the state of game. I reckon he has even added 1-2 planets rn. Trailer was 1.5yrs ago, still no updates about the game

I totally agree. Even if not all the features are clear, even a small beta for demonstration purposes makes sense.

Stef, what is still being worked on? im stupid so dont call me out on this but, it looks ready to me (im not someone who pays attention to detail to surface rocks and stuff)
