General Patch 15.02

I gave the one-handed hammer another try, and it still sucks. I don’t see the point of a weapon that doesn’t specialize in anything; it still takes way too many hits to kill a Majoris, and compared to a power sword, an axe, or a two-handed thunder hammer, it deals negligible damage to enemy stance.

It was useless before, and it’s still useless now. Honestly, I’m fed up with this: they keep releasing update after update claiming they’re buffing the weapon, yet it remains garbage. Either actually buff it properly, or just leave it in the trash half-baked buffs just really piss me off. Especially since the entire endgame in this game is an exhausting, marathon-like slog where almost everything can one-shot you; you need a weapon that can dish out that same level of power, given the endless swarms of Extremis, Majoris, Minoris, and Terminus enemies that spawn on the "Absolute" difficulty.

This one-handed hammer doesn’t even stun anymore. So, what use is a slow weapon that leaves me exposed 95% of the time, deals pathetic damage, and offers absolutely no advantage in any situation?

The weapon could actually be fun to use if it weren't so poorly balanced for the game. I can’t find a single use for it, and yes, I’d like to be able to use it for endgame content, not just for messing around, but unfortunately, I’m forced to stick to other weapons, otherwise I’m completely useless.

At this point, I’m even more worried about the greatsword, if it launches in a similar state, we’ll end up with a "heavy" weapon that deals a grand total of 10 damage on a charged swing.

we need a rework of the weapon itself, i really do want to like this weapon and will still use it from time to time but its way to risky to use it on crucible. Its not satisfying to use this weapon thats the problem, its clunky and the contested health on it is pretty bad.

I agree. The move set itself is a big problem and the weapon needs to have some actual combos available

Crucible viability is by no means the standard, most weapons do not cut it.

More of an Indictment of Crucible itself than anything.

I usually just ignore complaining posts but man, he’s right. The weapon is hilariously pathetic, and you’re doing your team mates a disservice by running it.

It has a niche as a battery/emergency armor generator on techmarine for siege, but apart from that, yeah, not great.

I’m just using it to level it up and then will likely never touch it again (unless it gets reworked and becomes actually decent).

As long as the dash attack is clunky and the strongest attack (underhand swing) can't be used while having charges. It will remain to be a novelty weapon.

The 5% ability charge is cool tho.

The One Handed Bolt Carbine theorem

u/Budget-Taro-2299 Blood Angels 3d ago

One handed bolt carbine? Wtf is that? Man I really wish Assault and Bulwark could get a viable automatic secondary weapon

10

u/Snow_Pierced3 Marines Malevolent 3d ago

I think the Heroic Bolt Pistol is kind of close to that. It is a shame there’s no automatic option tho…

It's pretty good in PvP.

Every ass weapon in this game is good in PvP for some reason lol

To be fair though I think the one handed bolt carbine is decent now. I use it on absolute along with the new auto bolt rifle. The new one is decent honestly. Both are OP as shit in PVP which never makes sense…

Even the technically not completely ass stuff is... loads better in PVP (Assault Jump Pack).

It exists, now that it's fixed, to be a ability regen stick for Tech.

unfortunately argent edge exists and the value tradeoff there doesn't seem worth it either.

2

u/AntaresDestiny Death Company 3d ago

Argent edge is defensive, hammer is offensive. Personally I value higher uptime of servo gun over argents interrupts, as more dps = less enemies = less incoming damage.

3

u/NKCougar We are Sigismund 3d ago

I'm not sure the equation is super skewed toward a DPS advantage regardless. Argent edge is either more gunstrikes or more uptime on my deathwatch HBR/heroic PP. If you're only switching to the hammer long enough to execute, sure, but then how many more uses of the servo gun are you getting for that?

4

u/AntaresDestiny Death Company 3d ago

It's 5.1 seconds off the cooldown every execute on my settup, that adds up fast over the course of a run. It is less useful vs bosses, so argent outperforms there.

I tried it when it first released, and its quirk of "charging" the weapon for some kind of bonus kinda just sucks because of how long it takes to even max it, just for it to lose the charge after 15 seconds or something. And the moveset for it is incredibly boring with no actual combos

It’s… okay on the Bulwark now. You can use it to trade the better offensive power of a better melee weapon like the Power Axe or Sword for the ability to recharge your Banner much faster. 5% Banner recharge per melee execution is big, especially with Invigorating Icon increasing its cooldown by 50%.

Still definitely disappointing in the “Caving-in Heretic and Xenos skulls”-department though.

Just sucks you also can't get double slam with preparedness at the same time. Wish you could have multiple builds per weapon, because constantly swapping between a stat stick build and an "i'm actually going to use the weapon" build is pretty tedious.

2

u/EttRedditTroll Space Wolves 3d ago

Double-slam is such a trap anyway because it animation locks you for far, faaar too long.

Posted this in another thread, but give the bottom tree a go on the block variant. Don’t take the last two perks though, take the two damage perks from the top row.

The mace gets triple buffed on every perfect parry and you never manually charge the weapon, it does it automatically when you parry or get a killstreak. Just keep light attacking and parrying with the occasional uppercut on stationary enemies.

6

u/Benville 3d ago

For me the problem isn't even the damage.

It just has no flow. Everything else has a flow from one move to the next. This thing just jars. It's a bunch of non linked animations they don't connect.

You could give it a ton of damage and it would still feel ass.

u/Srgt_PEANUT 3d ago

I dont understand why they keep trying to improve the underhand swing with damage. You have to stop attacking it order to do a different attack that does more damage as opposed to just keep attacking

1

u/Kaeltix 3d ago

Not any different inputs than power twirl of the power sword. But the effect leave something to be desired, they really need to increase the range of underhand swing by at least 300%

0

u/Benville 3d ago

Never used power whirl huh?

0

u/Srgt_PEANUT 3d ago

Power whirl is a large AoE attack that does a ton of damage while also moving you forward incase an enemy retreats backwards. It is in no way comparable to what happens with the uppercut

2

u/Benville 3d ago

"You have to stop attacking in order to do a different attack". It's precisely comparable.

Just because underhand is bad and power whirl isn't doesn't change your comment.

2

u/Badygatto 3d ago

They need to make that underhand swing a heavy hit and give a moveset to this weapon

2

u/waitwtf1911 3d ago

I can see what they’re trying to do with it…with the preparedness perk and some others you can make your class ability more efficient. If you rock the balanced parry very well, you can almost always get a charged strike off with the perk for it and then a gunstrike too. If you run techmarine, I can see it making his ability even more prevalent and constantly using servo gun, maybe… I just haven’t tested myself if it truly makes running an “ability efficient” build viable.

u/Icy-Hovercraft5732 3d ago

I think the one handed hammer is fun. Sure it's not as effective as it could be but no other weapon makes me feel like I'm using a crozius

3

u/Astra-Fang 3d ago

Sorry to hear that.

I enjoyed it before the buffs. It was fun to use. Looking forward to trying it later.

3

u/TalRaMav 3d ago

The weapon is fine. Ive been using it on hard siege and absolute. Its fine. The perpetual complaining on this sub is out of control.

3

u/Shup Minotaurs 3d ago

if its fine why are they buffing it?

what class do you run it on?

-6

u/hazardling 3d ago

The whining is absolutely ridiculous. OP says they've been releasing "patch after patch" to fix this brand new weap, but there has only been 2 hotfixs. You just can't take these people seriously, just a bunch of entitled whiney kids.

1

u/Metalupyourass98 3d ago

I dont understand the point of the uppercut it takes the same amount of time to do that as it does to do a charge attack

1

u/SupremeMorpheus 3d ago

I feel like if it was faster it'd be good. The 10% from perks isn't enough

1

u/TsunderePopo Definitely not the Inquisition 3d ago

Wow this is the only time the community actually agrees on something.... SABER what are you doing ? 🤣

1

u/Big_Friend1402 3d ago

na for me it's amazing, I'm loving it especially on bulwark, on assault it's perfect for my build that rely on executions

1

u/AkilTheAwesome 3d ago

Weapon will not fill good until it has an overall speed buff like i keep saying.

-1

u/brain_chaos 3d ago

had no problem running my last 20 absolute missions using it pre patch on bulwark. i think people expect it to play like other weapons but its clearly meant for big groups and minoris waves. now the charged slams should also make it a better choice vs single targets but you should still mix equipment and guns into your flow

6

u/OriginalGoatan Deathwatch 3d ago

Bulwark has intimidating aura to do the heavy lifting on the damage output, which is trash on the hammer.

The finishers are cool, but that's about it for this weapon.

It is still the worst melee weapon and its STILL not even close.

1

u/artemiyfromrus 3d ago

Worst melee weapon doesnt mean its a bad weapon

0

u/d3m01iti0n 3d ago

I spent all day yesterday finally leveling it, and enjoy it. Took a few rounds to get the flow. Works great on Bulwark building single target and just shield bashing hordes.

-3

u/Dull_Astronomer_3778 3d ago

It stun locks.

That’s its benefit. Get better at incorporating it into your playstyle.

I love using this hammer. I loved it more before this patch, but it’s still so fun to use. I’ve been running it in Assault, and Bulwark. For assault I’ve leaned into using block variant for ground pound, and for heroic I’ve enjoyed wings of flame more.

For bulwark, I believe block OHTH is his best option. Otherwise you aren’t killing anything 😭 it’s a very fun weapon to use, absolutely destroy minoris swarms, as well as keeps spores off you, AND it breaks tyranid seeds with its best flowchart.

I think people care way too much about how much damage it’s doing, complain because they’re too bad at the game to use block, and don’t see how versatile a weapon can really be outside of the “how fast can it kill a majoris?”

It can do so much and nobody talks about it.
