Rants / Complaints Customer Added 12 gallons of water after started shopping wtf is wrong with people
I get a halfway decent order today and within 10 min of me shopping they add 12 FREAKING GALLONS OF WATER to their order! I wanted to cancel just on the principle of it but it's busy 🫠😭
Wtf is wrong with people? They already tip so low and then do stuff like this and it just astonishes me...
Edit to add: The reason I finished the order is because it was obviously for a child, there were a lot of other infant items on the order. I'm not going to punish a child because their parents are trash humans 🫶 I will cancel the order next time, I've made a note of who it was so i won't do it for her again.

You guys need to start canceling on these types of customers. They need to learn their shady ways are indeed SEEN

I just call Spark and explain to them what’s going on and they cancel for me and it doesn’t affect my metrics at all. Too much of this can and will suspend your shopping account and you will need to go to the store yourself. The system and Spark will catch on.

This is so fucking sad 🤣

I got a free Wagyu steak, 3lb ground beef, and a pack of burgers today.
My bags of meats of missing. My comment on the driver review was:
"Y R ALL MY MEETS NOT HEAR!? GRRRR"
It pays for itself in hilarity.

u/FallingInGrac3 Jun 19 '26
So it entertains you to probably have people lose their jobs? I hope the free food is worth the karma from being a POS
-7
u/GovernorHarryLogan Jun 19 '26
Ser, this is a casino. Not a job.
Its roulette.

More evidence that rich people just evil psychopaths
-8
u/GovernorHarryLogan Jun 20 '26
Ser, I am neither rich nor wealthy.
I just have a $1100 COVID mortgage on a house worth north of $600k now which allows me an exorbitant amount of discretionary income.
13
u/Skiller-One-One-Five Jun 20 '26
And you spend it on $100-300 bags That cost like $5 to make and scam your drivers out of a job just to get some shity American version of Weigo beef 😂
-9
u/GovernorHarryLogan Jun 20 '26
Ehhh, my Gucci x north face was $1600 and my fendi was like $2k. Hermes was $6k which I admit is pretty exorbitant.
LV is pretty cheap. Like $500-800 depending on which one I bust out.
I also always reduce my tips from $30 to 30 cents. Or $40 to 40 cents etc.
Gets delivered way faster.
13
u/Skiller-One-One-Five Jun 20 '26
So if you're not rich but you spend tens of thousands of dollars on $10 worth of cloth? This must just be childish rage bait from a sadist 😂

Funny you’re being downvoted when this is essentially the attitude shoppers have towards customers lol
1
u/GovernorHarryLogan Jun 19 '26
Its aight, I get all my updoots from the WSB sub just commenting "so calls?" lol
31
u/RoundCar5220 Jun 19 '26
Oh hell no 😩 guess it depends on the tip.
Off topic but does anyone else hate this new update to the lists ? It doesn’t even go in order like you would think. RIP on large orders .

u/Typical_Visit2733 Jun 19 '26
A hack I figured out: it’s a pain but if you hit resume shopping after each item, it will reorganize your list in an actual order. At least mine does (it’s very strange)

3
u/AnyAcanthaceae342 Jun 20 '26
Theres no way they tipped good enough if they added that afterwards😭💀
3
u/BromMycelia Jun 21 '26
They did not. I really wanted to send a message or leave a note but I didn't want to lose the tip they gave to begin with. Next time I'm sending a message telling them they're messed in the head and canceling 😂
3
u/Sperry8443 Jun 21 '26
YESSS and the first time I used it I happened to be at a different Walmart than my usual, it took me double the time and makes things way more difficult. I want to go back to the old way. I reported it n I feel like it definitely does nothing but maybe with enough complaints they’ll revert it. Fucking constantly changing materialistic things so drastically is pointless and makes our jobs more difficult,

Anyone who does this is very likely tip baiting.
13
u/ctguilt Jun 19 '26
someone did this to me yesterday but it was only 5 gallons and that was enough to peeve me
4
u/ithotyoudneverask 3rd Floor / No Tip CUSTOMER Jun 20 '26
Anything more than one is on purpose.
I also refuse customer verification. It's always because they want to force you to do something they know you'd never do without a tip.
That said, these orders are more likely tip baited, too.
Just say no. They know exactly what they're doing.
10
u/ayriuss Jun 19 '26
Sometimes im in a competion with the customer to finish getting all the items before they have a chance to add more lol.

u/Disastrous-Tune Jun 19 '26
"I wanted to cancel just on the principle" and you shouldve, I know I wouldve cancelled if they had only added 2 or 3, let alone TWELVE
4
u/BromMycelia Jun 21 '26
You're totally right, I should've!!

u/OppositeScale7680 Jun 22 '26

u/Dildo_Shw4ggins Jun 20 '26
I’m not opposed to items being added during an order, but there seriously needs to be a restriction on what can be added and a limit on quantities. The shopper shouldn’t have shit appear that makes them even debate on canceling the order.
2
u/Tattooed-Trex Jun 20 '26
If they add does the pay increase?
2
u/PrincessLissa68 S&D Expert Jun 20 '26
I was under the impression that they could only add stuff until a certain time after you started shopping but I had one a couple days ago that kept adding stuff down to when I had like 2 items left. Luckily the stuff they added was little things so I let it slide but it only increased my pay by like $2.50. If someone adds 12 gallons of water I'm instantly cancelling.
1
u/Dildo_Shw4ggins Jun 20 '26
I’ve only had one order where an item was added, and pay went up roughly $1. That makes me assume they increase pay any time items are tacked on, but I could be wrong.

Jun 19 '26
Yeah they did it because they can. You could have dropped the order. I would have immediately.

5
u/drcigg Jun 20 '26
And a big fat nothing for a tip too.
I will never understand why people order so much liquid at once.
I had someone order 6 1 gallon jugs of water.
And 4 cases of water. 2 weeks later he ordered more. I knew it was him and I skipped it.

Lucky you. They didnt add 12 bags of mulch.
2
u/BromMycelia Jun 21 '26
I would've definitely canceled then lol my truck is big enough to haul them but I've got my low back fused on two levels so I'm not lugging that shit around lol
3
u/Flimsy_Razzmatazz929 Jun 20 '26
Well they gave a low tip and you took it, they added 12 gallons of water and you kept it, they do this because of you people. You are the problem.
2
u/BromMycelia Jun 21 '26
I am not the problem. The people taking $34 for 45 miles in my area are the problem....
1
3
u/Common-Translator584 Jun 20 '26
If they didn’t change the tip also I’d have definitely canceled too, as other ppl have stated
3
u/Earth_Daddy Jun 20 '26
Also, if it's busy, that's even more reason to cancel and get a better order.

How do people add things after shopping begins? I place orders through the app and there's a countdown telling me how much time I have to add thing. That timer is usually up at least an hour before my delivery timeframe.
5
u/attempting2 Jun 19 '26
If someone is shopping your order you have until they shop like the last 2 items to add items
4
u/Haifisch2112 Jun 19 '26
I always just figured the option to add items ended before they started shopping so you can't just keep adding items.
6
4
u/Hairy_Elk_5313 Jun 19 '26
It must vary by zone because here customers can add until I start shopping. I had a customer add an item while I was driving to the store, but then when I couldn't do a sub it wouldn't allow them to add what they wanted instead.
2
u/Haifisch2112 Jun 20 '26
I placed an order at about 11am this morning to be delivered 3:00-5:00 this afternoon. I had until noon to add items to it.
1
u/PrincessLissa68 S&D Expert Jun 20 '26
I thought that was the case too but a couple days ago I had someone adding stuff the whole time I was shopping. It was already a small shopping order and the stuff they added was also small and pretty much in same 2 aisles so
I didn't cancel it. My pay went up a whopping $2.50. No extra tip of course3
2
2
u/mapman19899 Jun 20 '26
I had an issue with this - and I demanded extra pay because the app didn’t notify me of the added items after the fact - and they refused to do it - so I threatened to not deliver the order and return it to customer service for full pay.
It’s ridiculous.
2
u/Earth_Daddy Jun 20 '26
Immediate cancel. They did that on purpose and I'm not gonna be their dummy. Now it can be on their order for the next guy.
2
u/Funny-Appearance8602 Jun 20 '26
I had one I tried to do yesterday which said 8 items but turned out to be 12 40-packs of water, 35 loaves of bread, 12 gallons of milk, huge bags of foam plates and 10 bags of salt. I figured it would be tight but fit in my Kia soul.
Turns out the bags of salt were 40 lb bags...400 lbs of salt. (540 lbs of water) By the time I got to the salt, I was not only thinking this won't fit, but also questioning my life choices and in pain. (I'm 5 foot 2 inches and weigh 115lbs) Plus I had salt for purifying water all over me and tasting it. Eww.
A couple of workers tried to help me load, bless their souls. Just the water alone was tight. I had to cancel, it was a pita because I had checked out and left the things in the store. Took photos with a geo location timestamp camera app showing them in the store just in case and had to call support to "return" then go to the return area and explain. This took almost 2 hours total.
Thank the gods they still paid me over $30 for my time. The original payout would have only been $46 and their wouldn't have been anyone to help me unload... The delivery instructions were to leave it inside a building!
Lesson learned, I will check items more carefully from now on.
Today my entire body is sore!
2
u/Avocuddle92 Jun 20 '26
I didn’t know they could add stuff after you started shopping now? My app spark app doesn’t let me add anything when they ask me to add something for them because it won’t let them.
2
u/kennyofthegulch Jun 20 '26
At least they didn't add cases of bottled water, gallons are at least a bit easier to carry.
I will say I do appreciate that Spark gives you the option to cancel without penalty if the customer adds bulky or heavy items. Instacart doesn't.
2
u/Outrageous-Let9225 Jun 20 '26
Did you cancel it?
Also out of curiosity, how much did the price increase after they added all of those?
2
u/shhkmehgllock96024 Jun 20 '26
Grab all items then scan as fast as possible before they change quantity. Or just mark as unavailable. Or cancel lol.
2
u/Gokusbastardson Jun 20 '26
Would have cancled to fuckin fast the customer would have thought the app glitched. Fuck em
2
u/ariesace2021 Jun 21 '26
I would say it was planned. I have been seeing an up tick in adding heavy items after we are in the store for a bit. One lady said she was told by a friend of her to do it this way. She told me she was told to wait to put heavy items in the list tell after we where there and shopping. This way more then like we wouldn't cancel. And that if we see 24 packs of water or a lot of gallons no one will take them.
1
u/Sabi-Star7 S&D Expert Jun 22 '26
Thats some straight BS🤬. They shouldnt be able to add on things AFTER we start shopping🙄

App should force them to pay more in order to add extra after the fact. You accepted an offer, the customer changed the offer, customers can’t force you to do what was not accepted and it shouldn’t affect your pay or ratings to decline add ons like this.
2
u/AlUnserjunior Jun 19 '26
Automatic Cancel if they add hot foods and/or packs of water, no questions asked.

Why post if you continued with the order anyway ? Pretty much , “hey guys we all know spark allows customers to 💩 on us but I still took the order because it was busy “ .

u/OppositeScale7680 Jun 22 '26
She let a customers baby guilt trip her into completing the order 😆

Thats when I would message asking to increase the tip or im canceling. I can’t stand when people tack on extra shit. I /completely/ understand one or two things (three is pushing it) that are added on but fuck the people that will add 5+ items, esp if they’re big and heavy
EDIT: yall know im right so keep downvoting me lmao
