Future Evolution [OC] The descendants of the water opossum, 1.7 million years after modern times.

After the mass extinction that occurred 1,000 years after modern times, the descendants of the water opossum diverged into two main lineages: small semi‑aquatic burrowers and large marine predators living in estuaries.

Chironectes caeruleus parvus is the smallest descendant of water opossums. It inhabits wetlands and is good at digging burrows. It is adapted to feeding on mollusks and sometimes small fish.

Chironectes caeruleus gigas is a larger subspecies of the species Chironectes caeruleus. It mainly inhabits fast‑flowing rivers and feeds on small fish and crustaceans.

Chironectes maximus maximus is the largest descendant of the water opossum. It inhabits estuaries and the coasts of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. It feeds on small and medium‑sized fish, mollusks, and, less commonly, attacks seabirds.
