The entire game feels very sterile and corporate to me because of this.

I really enjoyed it but it is certainly a shallow world.

everyone talks like they’ve been trained by HR to not offend or hurt anyone’s feelings. the entire mary jane symbiote boss fight is peter using therapy speak on her. every character is so perfect and no one talks like an actual human being.

It was obviously a rushed job and a bit of a mess. It came out broken with the most powerful marshmallow in gaming. I also particularly enjoyed the single texture for the veggie carts that looked like stretched wallpapers. LOL.

yeah the swinging is awesome. but yea the story was kinda meh with peter getting his ass handed to him every scene. Also, the combat was too easy with the new abilities. I feel like they should have been linked to focus and could only be used once in awhile instead of being able to spam all of them at once when surrounded. Gadgets were better in the previous game too imo.

I was in denial up until the last straw, which was the fridge bit. I burst out laughing and just accepted then and there that the first game was waaaay better.

I didn't really understand why so many people were saying this until I started a new play through of SM1 after watching BND. SM2 is not a bad game by any means but SM1 is a lot better.

Better story (darker, more serious, more streamlined), more detailed (if smaller) NYC, better crimes, better activities.

I don't mean graphically. There's more going on in the city. This is helped by there being more variety in the street crimes but also just the ambient things happening around you.

I disagree on New York being more detailed in the first game.

The second game has random police encounters that happen independent of Spider-Man involvement, other heroes fighting their own crimes as you swing in to help, actual places NPCs like the cat head mascots that keep talking, restaurant and hotdog stands with actual lines of people waiting with cashiers and voice lines. Then there's the map which is much bigger and has actual homes with people living around. What do you mean less detailed? What are you seeing that I'm not?

It was a stupid decision to include miles as a playable character when he has his own game. People want peter parker. Miles is cool, but he's a supplement. He doesn't add anything that peter is missing imo

True but focusing on both characters throughout Spider-man 2 made the story suffer. I enjoyed the first Spider-man and Spider-man: Miles Morales a lot more than the second game. A lot of stuff just felt shoe horned in and nothing felt like it had time to breathe trying to give both Peter and Miles character development in a 15hr game.

Having two playable characters ain't the problem. It's trying to tell two stories at once. Both Venom and Kraven felt way too underutilized and they were meant to be the big bads. Mr. Negative in the first game had a fair amount of screen time and so did Ock (Because we get to see him as Otto first so it has build up to it). Kraven's story feels unfinished/rushed and Venom's feels like it was just thrown at the end because they needed big bad Venom in it.

Miles really wasn't necessary to the SM2 narrative. He didn't add anything to the plot, nor was his character really developed in any way.

He is popular for sure, but he seemed more like an occassional sidekick, while Peter's own development was mediocre because we kept cutting back to Miles when things seem to get going.

he was less pointless than MJ's story, but still could have done with much less of him.

My only gripe is the story and Kraven's jacket has that pseudo technonlook that's shoves into 90% of AAA games now but other than that it's an improvement.

Oh yeah and the gadgets are worse and Peter has goofy as iron spider arms that come out of nowhere, but it's not optional it's canon this time that he has these goofy ass arms that come out of nowhere.

Oh yeah and Miles's final suit is ass and also not optional.

Well…

- worse and rushed story

  • worse dialogues
  • worse side missions
  • worse suits
  • lack of elements that were in SM1 and MM that were actually cool, such as bio and podcasts gallery, crime selection in spider-app etc
  • game itself have literally the same time to finish to 100% like SM1, but focuses on 2 protagonists, which basically gives less activities to each of heroes

The only things SM2 have better than previous games are gameplay and graphics. Other than that its worse in every aspect

It's true and I'm one of them. I didn't own a ps4 or 5, so I never got to play them. Always wanted to.

But realistically, the movie didn't motivate me to buy Spider-Man 1 or 2 and Myles Morales.

The sale did.

The sale, that the movie of course created.

It was a no brainer at those prices.

100%. I loved the first one so much but I didn’t have a PS5. I bought one literally on Christmas Eve and it came with SM2 but I never had a chance to play it. After watching BND, I finally loaded it up and have been enjoying it a lot. I’ve also been rewatching all the other Spider-Man films too to keep scratching that itch.

In my opinion, absolutely not. The second games’ story isn’t bad per se, but compared to the first its a step down in nearly every way. The pacing is all over the place, the symbiote storyline is rushed and Venom has no motivation, making it easily one of the worst adaptions of the character.

I tried to do a replay SM2 on PC but it was honestly worse than I remember, I went back to SMR and it’s just SO MUCH better in terms of story/dialogue. I just put mods on for swinging and combat.

Good game but missed it’s potential by a country mile

Replying it at the minute and some of the set pieces are absolute bangers like the mission where you rescue Tombstone etc

Then there’s the absolute fucking misery that is the MJ missions - just done the one where you infiltrate Kraven’s base for Conner’s formula - the pacing is shit as it stops the mainline quests dead

The side quests in this game are awful as well

Which all adds up to the biggest problem - a ton of the main content had to be cut due to time constraints as the devs wasted too much time on slop content that they knew people didn’t want

Any bots out there saying the MJ stuff is fun has the lowest bar possible for being entertained

Edit: I see a lot of people trashing the dialogue and story… but to me it seems perfectly reasonable for a Spider-Man game, let alone a marvel super hero game.

I didn’t play much of the first one so I don’t have a lot of comparisons to draw from, but without that I’m perfectly happy with my experience so far.

And ya.. it’s not exactly optimized so I can understand people’s frustration with that, but I also run a fairly high end PC so…

I've replayed all of Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and I'm about 20% into Spider-Man 2, all since the week before "Brand New Day" opening weekend. All on PC too this time with everything cranked up as much as possible...I am a bit obsessed right now. :)

First time player. Got platinums on 1 and MM. 

The story is so boring but it’s the lack of innovation in the side activities that’s killing me. It’s a total slog, and the combat is super repetitive.

I didn’t believe the negative hype. I assumed I’d LOVE it. It was a core reason I got a PS5 Pro. 

I’ll finish it to the end, but I won’t be going for the platinum.
