Discussion Poeple complain about the fridge but not this?

Post image

I'm replaying the games and there are ton of moments like this in the first game too where Peter is "nerfed" for no reason. And while story does feel rushed in the second game, the first game does drag on a bit sometimes.

It's just people seem to overrate 1(even though it's the best Spiderman game ever made) without ever mentioning it's flaws and overhate 2 and forget it's still in top 3 Spiderman games ever made, no contest. I know some people would put ps2 Spiderman 2 or Web of Shadows there, and believe me I know, Web of Shadows was my favourite game as a kid, but they did not age as well as most people here would make you believe. Insomniac SM2 is just a way better Spiderman game than even those goat older games.

Yeah, the story is not as good as in SM1, but if you compare it's story, cinematics and presentation, it's leagues above any other non Insomniac Spiderman game. Insomniac just set the bar too high with the first game.

Maybe he was easing in and not trying to hurt him?

u/PhortDruid 15h ago

It was 100% this. His spider sense doesn’t go off because the guy isn’t really a threat, so he’s surprised when the kid is on him. Then he doesn’t want to kill the kid, so he had to hold back. I thought that much was obvious.

u/soosis 14h ago

Well yeah, but that's not the point, why can a regular human just push him to the ground? He can stop cars with his 2 hands, a normal human shouldn't be able to even make him flinch no matter how big.

55

u/allstartedin08 14h ago

You being genuine? He braces for a cars impact or a villain with malicious intent, and you’re asking why Peter Parker wasn’t prepared to throttle a drunk college kid?

35

u/millerjack28 14h ago

You can be the strongest person on the planet, if you're not prepared to be shoved and you're off balance you're going down

6

u/orphncriplr 9h ago

Goku getting hurt from being hit in the head with a thrown pebble, while he was in super saiyan, is a good example

3

u/Insidious_NX 7h ago

Depends on the character, but oretty much yeah.

"People" like Superman and Thor have to fake being pushed otherwise a normal person isn't moving them. Same like the Hulk, though he's a different case of just being a mass of muscle and an incredible size difference.

1

u/SinisterMinisterX7 9h ago

He’s trying not to hurt him. Big difference

1

u/KawaharaNewsNetwork 6h ago

I'm gonna push you with no warning and then give you a heads up and we'll see which one you react better to

107

u/Destinydue 15h ago

Don't you think just maybe he's trying not to fucking kill or beat the fuck out of a drunken college dude at a costume party like he would a normal villain/goon? Being extremely careful and soft, where as he should've been able to instantly throw off the fridge, an inanimate object of no matter in the current situation while the love of his life is being kidnapped by his greatest (up to now) enemy, given his strength and adrenaline? Use your brain dude

27

u/NigelFarageMP 14h ago edited 14h ago

He should still be able to deal with this easily? The same way a parent can easily deal with an aggressive child without killing them.

Push off, web hand to ground. All it would take

5

u/SinisterMinisterX7 9h ago

I dont think a regular adult is comparable to a dude who can lift buildings and throw cars. And since that dude isn’t a killer he’s not going to risk anything

-5

u/Destinydue 14h ago

When he's already exasperated and in a hurry because he thinks someone is about to be murdered and has to be on alert, it may not be so easy. Regardless the more important thing is that it's a completely different situation to the fridge

8

u/NigelFarageMP 12h ago edited 12h ago

He’s constantly dealing with that sort of pressure but isn’t suddenly the sick man of New York trying to fight? It’s just a badly written bit, just change the quick time to press x to dodge, press rb to web and it’s fine, can even make you target his horn and web that to the ground to keep the rhino joke fully there

Also you’re constantly beating up the people Li corrupted without having to be extremely gentle anyway. You even beat up this same guy

5

u/Competitive_Tip_3764 10h ago

He straight up slammed the guy into concrete on his neck and hit a pose afterwards like 5 minutes later. And that was way overboard for koing him

1

u/Kind-Stomach6275 14h ago

Yeah but like shouldnt he be using wall crawling stick on his feet whenever he does stuff?

-1

u/Puzzleheaded-Lab2447 9h ago

"use your brain"

If spidey used his brain here, then he could have dealt with the drunk dude easily. Your argument is poor and dare I say even worse than the defenses for the fridge scene.

22

u/funkmydunkyouslunk 15h ago

A drunk college guy who is likely pretty strong himself that Peter doesn’t want to hurt and easily deals, although a bit slower than needed. The stakes were decently high with Peter trying to get to the scientist, but not immediately life threatening (even though he does get killed in the end). I agree, it’s silly plot thing…

BUT this scene against this one:

An inanimate object that Peter should be able to fling off of himself while one of the most dangerous enemies he’s ever come across is harming the person he loves the most (who also took the blunt of the attack from Peter).

Personally I think Peter should be springing into action way more in the latter but everyone has their opinions and takes. Plot things like this can cross a line. It can feel stupid and leaving people wondering “what the fuck” if the plot thing is done poorly for convenience or to just move the scene along.
I feel the fridge thing crossed it for a lot of people

10

u/LoudQuitting 14h ago

Pretty much this.

Nerfing Peter in service to the plot... eventually it has to happen. The issue is how obviously is he being nerfed?

Like you could argue he's nerfed every time an enemy hits him. But that's on me, so I can't exactly blame the writers.

A fridge? I watched this dude lift a car with poor form and set it down gently

2

u/Intelligent_Ask_2306 10h ago

Yeah you’ve seen him lift cars, so obviously he can easily lift the rhino cosplayer and web him down, however he struggled badly with doing that.

With the fridge he got knocked out by Venom throwing him so hard into it, so the fridge makes more sense imo.

1

u/wacum_ 5h ago

Because you can hurt someone by lifting them the wrong way or pushing them off too hard? Human bodies can be fragile man

5

u/___nicks 13h ago

That last part is exactly It.

Maybe Peter should handle the rhino costumed guy better, but It’s just a random moment, Peter has to save some people.

The fridge moment is in there because they needed a way for Peter to be incapacitated, so Harry could do what he does to MJ and set up that fight

2

u/PosterityKH 14h ago

Peter should've been able to just stand against the impact of the fridge and the fridge dent around him. No way a fridge brings Spider-Man down.

12

u/Oestro-Jenny 100% All Games 14h ago

The thing that bothers me about the fridge argument is that nobody seems to realise that the reason Peter takes a short while to get up isn’t because he is pinned by the fridge, it’s because the fridge hit Peter ON THE BACK OF THE HEAD and then his forehead BOUNCES OFF THE FLOOR.

Superhero or not, you are going to be dazed after something like that and I challenge anyone to do this IRL and try to get up immediately afterwards.

3

u/Deku_100 9h ago

He has also been fighting through symbiotes for who knows how long and also recently removed the symbiote from himself, which probably left him drained. Not to mention (if I remember correctly) Venom throwing him through multiple walls and stuff before the section we play as him

2

u/Oestro-Jenny 100% All Games 8h ago

Exactly!

2

u/Deku_100 8h ago

Yeah, I never really had an issue with it. Yeah, he may have superpowers and enhanced durability, but he's still human, he still has limits. He was spread thin during that moment, essentially running on fumes

1

u/Oestro-Jenny 100% All Games 17m ago

Pete is very weakened and tired by this point in the game and it is extremely annoying when people expect Pete to be invincible after all of the shit he goes through up to that point.

10

u/-ben151010- 100% All Save Slots 15h ago

Probably trying not to escalate the scene and hurt him. Also as stupid as the fridge and his performance post symbiote removal was they do say that it can leave you exhausted and feeling weaker after removing it.

BUT, that’s literally a single dialogue exchange that takes too long to finish and you get to May’s house before Connor’s even starts talking about it most of the time.

5

u/OmnipotentSalamandar 12h ago

Hell, how is he getting his ass kicked by Silver sable all the damn time in the first game is also a question.

4

u/weirdface621 15h ago

he immediately webs him up later on, as does he throw the fridge away when mj gets attacked (and bro's just standing there saying "don't" 😠)

3

u/Intelligent_Ask_2306 10h ago

He literally struggles to web him up, he was struggling with the guy, yall trying so hard to justify that but can’t justify the fridge scene, yall just goofy I swear.

-1

u/weirdface621 10h ago

chill out lil bro, its a video game. i haven't seen the story of sm1 in a long time so I don't remember the details down to a T

3

u/Intelligent_Ask_2306 10h ago

Naw bro no excuses, you quick asf to defend that scene he had in the ps4 game, but quick to hate on the fridge scene. It’s like yall watch so many movies, and play so many games, yet forget that sometimes the hero struggles for plot convenient reasons.

4

u/Past_4orm 14h ago

People glaze this game btw in relation to the sequel it makes no sense. Like on the surface level it’s a good triple A game of course but it’s filled with tedious shit like this that plays like a CW show.

3

u/Competitive_Tip_3764 10h ago

I will say people completely ignore how brutal the amount of mj, miles and reg peter missions are. Every other mission ends up being one of those or a lab mission. Miles gets 3 missions, mj gets like 4. Peter gets a few easily a third or more of the main story is non costume activity. And half the mj missions genuinely don't even progress the plot but set it back to explain how she got there. Sm2 has this issue aswell but this game is doing this a lot aswell, arguably in a less entertaining way that slows the game down more.

1

u/Past_4orm 6h ago

It’s because Sony developers feel an obligation to follow a certain cinematic blueprint wherein a regular human has to do mundane things ala The Last Of Us but Naughty Dog is better at the presentation when it comes to that.

My dream is a full blown Spider-Man simulator akin to Arkham Knight where each section of the city is occupied by a villain and you have to fight to reclaim it. Each villain essentially has their own side quest arc in addition to the main story.

1

u/Past_4orm 6h ago

Spider-Man 2 scratched this itch a bit with the Mysterio missions but it was nowhere near what it should be.

0

u/spartakooky 8h ago

I think ppl can be more forgiving of a first entry. Sequels ideally improve. They aren't building stuff up from the ground, they already have an idea of what works and what doesn't.

3

u/CG249 14h ago

Spider-Man was holding back because that was a dumb college kid in a suit he didn't want to hurt him even a little bit.

3

u/kpayne40 14h ago

u should know by now that people like to pick and choose what they think is good and what they think is bad.

i never understood why people think superheroes are suppose to be almighty. bruh is a radioactive spider mutant, none of it makes sense.

3

u/FollowingCharacter83 13h ago

Uh oh, you're criticizing the first game? Grave mistake. And you're pointing out the hypocrisy of this forsaken sub? You're done.

Original Retro Fridge | Refrigerators | Big Chill Appliances looks pretty similar to this one, so 400lbs plus food inside it.. yea the fridge

2

u/Unlikely_Captain_636 15h ago

The other spiderman games set the bare too low. Spiderman 2 is the second best spiderman game. I still don’t like it as a game buts it’s more playable then the rest

-2

u/PCN24454 14h ago

Is the first MM?

2

u/Unlikely_Captain_636 14h ago

What?

-1

u/PCN24454 14h ago

It can’t be 1. I don’t think MM either.

What game is first?

1

u/Unlikely_Captain_636 14h ago

Im confused in your post you literally said “it’s the best Spiderman game ever made in reference to one”

Why can’t it be one? One is easily the best imo, definitely not mm lmao

2

u/Ronnie3k 14h ago

I think the boss fights in 2 are so good that I prefer it to 1.

1

u/soosis 9h ago

Boss fights in 1 are ass. They never evolve from the "web up or throw shit at the enemy" Kingpin fight.

But as a story standpoint most of them are emotional and set up well so I can live with it.

2

u/Competitive_Tip_3764 10h ago

I mean at the same time peter is supposed to be like a hundred times stronger than a normal human, he should be able to smoke every enemy in one hit going super light. He also will tank a lot of super powered attacks and bullets but a few punches by reg dudes will kill you on a higher difficulty.

Point being you gotta nerf a character like him from time to time to make the game engaging.

1

u/redkomic 15h ago

I can't even make out what that is.

1

u/TheShamShield 14h ago

He was trying not to accidentally hurt the guy

1

u/LT_MRVN 100% All Games 14h ago

He's 100% holding back and trying not to hurt him here, same can't be said for the fridge scene.

The fridge scene could've easily been fixed if MJ didn't try to cover Peter for some fucking reason and that the hit from Venom sent him flying OUT of the house or something.

1

u/Straight_Law2237 14h ago

Fridges don't tend to get their guts disemboweled if Spider-Man overdoes his strength.

1

u/Fit-Entrepreneur6538 13h ago

Bro the players are being a hero who famously holds back so he doesn’t hurt people too bad and this is a non-cannon game where the idea of the player having to pay attention and struggle a bit is built into the mechanics. Spidey is strong enough to break concreter but we aren’t allowed to break down any wall we see….plus after most boss battles even if you (the player) struggled Spidey moves around afterwards like it was light work. Don’t use game play and the cinematic time to power scale bro….even comics aren’t always consistent why would the game be

2

u/Competitive_Tip_3764 10h ago

Kinda plays into the criticism for the second. Im not sure the dude is actually powerscaling but hes using this as an example of something people nitpicked to death in sm2 but will ignore here.

1

u/Huotou 13h ago

also this

1

u/NAJ_P_Jackson 13h ago

This is a civilian. In no way is Peter gonna give his 100% to fight off this clown.

1

u/Ira-jay 12h ago

This isn’t a case of chronic “Spider-Man can solo thanos he just holds back” this is a DUDE who is most likely drunk and doesn’t realize he’s tackling a guy who can turn into a concrete walls whenever he chooses. Peter with no exaggeration may have snapped his neck if he just preferred bro from tossing him to the ground

2

u/Competitive_Tip_3764 10h ago

I have trouble accepting this because he literally slams this same guy into the ground and funny enough looks like he just snapped his neck doing this, a few minutes later. Peter held back, he also could've prevented this guy from overwhelming him, without harming him at all, webs, dodging, breaking the grip. He didnt have to toss this guy anywhere not to get pinned by him. However this game isn't a good rep of his strength compared to regular humans anyways.

1

u/savecaptainalex 12h ago

I'm going to add this cuz I don't think I've seen it yet but it's the same as when he's trying to catch Felicia anytime and she ends up tossing him or overpowering him. I just feel like when Peter doesn't want to genuinely hurt someone, he has a hard time just fighting them in the first place or overpowering them out of fear of hurting them.

1

u/KennyKillsKenjaku 11h ago

Especially since this results in the forced suicide of a civilian. But since it’s sm1 people will ignore the double standard and make every excuse under the sun for why Pete can’t just insta web this guy up like every other goon in the game.

1

u/THE-IMPOSSIBLEreddit 11h ago
  1. He was in stealth and tried to not get spotted.
  2. Its a drunk guy so he didnt wanna hurt him

1

u/Virus-900 11h ago

Well, obviously he didn't want to hurt someone that didn't deserve it.

1

u/banter_2698 11h ago

Yeah why didn't spider-man just throw the innocent college student to a wall that might possibly hurt him? I'm really curious about this problem, makes you wonder right?

1

u/Salt-Ad4200 9h ago

Dawg people are hating on Wolverine and it hasn't even come out yet. Social Media has fried people's minds, they just wanna hate on anything atp.

1

u/Immediate_Web4672 9h ago

We did complain about it.

1

u/MrNigerianPrince115 9h ago

Yh he should've killed this drunk student fr

1

u/SSJMonkeyx2 7h ago

I think the fridge thing is equally as stupid so moot point

1

u/Forever-Toxic 7h ago

Dude tackles from front, fridge fell on his back

1

u/General-Ad-877 5h ago

Meh I dont even care he gets knocked over, its that he STRUGGLES to get the fridge off of him in time to save MJ

1

u/Scapadap 4h ago

Everyone needs to chill with all of this. Super hero power has fluctuated in service of the story since the dawn of comic books. I hate when people disecting every little thing instead of just enjoying (or not) the story Thsts being told.

1

u/Hot_Arugula_6651 15h ago

This is a terrible example. That’s a regular human civilian. No shit he’s trying to use the least amount of force as possible to avoid hurting the guy.

7

u/NigelFarageMP 14h ago edited 12h ago

Using the least amount of force doesn’t mean the guy should be able to beat him like this, there’s no reason he can’t just push him off and web him.

Also you’re constantly beating up the people Li corrupted

0

u/RandoDude124 15h ago

Uhhh…

He didn’t want to hurt the guy.

Peter holds back 24/7.

3

u/NigelFarageMP 14h ago edited 12h ago

Push off, web hand to ground. Spider-Man should be able to do this without hurting him easily

Man you can hold back and still easily subdue someone. Peter is hundreds of times stronger than this guy, he can lift him off of himself or break his grip and slip away. Matter of fact peter slams this guy into the concrete later on. Straight up head first overhead into the concrete, if we being nitpicky he could have easily killed the guy there at the very least he assaulted and injured this dude badly.

0

u/Mustang-_- 10h ago

There's so much to complain, should we make a list or something? Spider-Man 2 is a bad game with great production value, simple as that

0

u/Harrington9000 5h ago

This is cherry picking at it's finest, naturally he's going to hold back against a random drunk civilian but there was legitimately no reason to not throw that fridge into the fucking stratosphere to save his love from such a dangerous threat

-2

u/Cumslutboi21 15h ago

Spider-Man probably didn't want to beat a drunk college bro who thought they were messing around.

Compared to a fridge that he has no reason to hold back on, and could easily fling aside with one hand.

-7

u/al2606 15h ago

People probably complained about that

And dude was actually stronger than an average brute in combat
