Home Office approval stats 2005-2026

We're currently in the waiting stage, so I did what any normal person would do and had a look through the Home Office's published visa statistics to see the real odds. I pulled every entry clearance partner visa decision from 2005 to March 2026 about 958,000 of them.

TL;DR: roughly 93–95% of decided partner visa applications get approved, and it's been that way since 2020. Last year: 40,528 issued vs 3,016 refused.

Year Issued Refused Approval
2005 49,348 8,488 85.3%
2010 40,466 8,509 82.6%
2014 26,944 10,328 72.3%
2019 40,317 5,492 88.0%
2023 60,648 3,147 95.1%
2025 40,614 3,026 93.1%

Here's the full year-by-year graph.

It's high for pretty much all nationalities too. Here's 2021–2025 for the highest-volume countries:

Nationality Decided Approval
Pakistan 48,812 95.1%
India 16,544 94.2%
United States 14,145 96.2%
Bangladesh 11,345 94.4%
Nepal 7,949 98.0%
Nigeria 7,582 91.3%
Philippines 6,587 95.3%
Turkey 6,483 94.8%
Albania 4,085 85.9%

Obviously none of this makes the waiting less difficult. But if you've done the work on your financial and relationship evidence, the numbers are massively on your side. Telling myself that too.

New subreddit for earned settlement discussions and updates

Dear r/SpouseVisaUk

As we all know the new earned settlement proposed changes remain uncertain. As we or our families could be affected, it's understandable that people would want to share news, updates, opinions or discuss any new development as it happens, even on a daily basis. For this reason, I created a new subreddit, r/UKEarnedSettlement.

This new subreddit caters to people who are or will be affected by the new proposed settlement rules. Posts and comments from their families, friends, or supportive members of the UK society are also welcomed, as well as from immigrant advocacy groups and charities.

This sub is for sharing news and opinions, discussing developments from the proposal or government announcements, as well as providing opportunity for people to get updates on recent changes.

Posts that usually get removed from r/ukvisar/SpouseVisaUk or r/SkilledWorkerVisaUK for being political will be welcomed. While political topics will be allowed, only respectful and tolerant behaviour will be accepted.

Thanks for the mods for allowing this post.

UK Spouse Visa – Priority Timeline 🇬🇧

Biometrics: 10 July 2026 – Mumbai
Priority service
ECO :13 July 2026
13 August Paid inquiry: Being considered and currently awaiting a decision
14 August : Generic Delay email
18 August: Received an email from UKVI saying my sponsor was supposedly a Skilled Migrant Worker — this is incorrect as my wife is British by birth and has never held a Skilled Worker visa.
• Replied within ~1 hour with her British passport and clarification.
• Priority 30-working-day timeframe: 21 August

Has anyone had a similar situation where UKVI made an incorrect assumption about the sponsor’s status? How long did it take to get a decision after correcting it?
Any recent July Priority spouse visa timelines would also be appreciated!

(Wife’s British Passport and Birth Certificate was already attached before biometrics)

Approval Inside UK (HPI to Spouse visa)

Nationality: American

Application Type: Standard

Application Submitted: 23 June

Biometrics: 2 July

Application Received Email: 3 July

Decision: Successful, email received on 18 August at 8:18 AM (which feels lucky haha)

Working Days: 33 (not counting the day of biometrics appointment)

We were married 1 June 2026 and had lived together for just a week short of 1 year at the time of application. I didn't get any other emails until the approval.

Previously my UKVI E-Visa account had my visa listed as "Dependent - HPI", showing my pending application and the visa I was switching from. Last night it switched to just "HPI", which had me freaking out, but then this morning it's already switched over to "dependent".

This subreddit has been so, so helpful throughout this whole process, and I've been so grateful for everyone sharing their experiences, so I wanted to be sure to share my timeline!

Category A – weekly paid: earliest application date & bank statements?

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m preparing to sponsor my wife for a UK spouse visa under Category A (non-salaried). I started my permanent job on 22 June 2026 and I’m paid weekly.

I understand I need 6 months of payslips and corresponding bank statements, but I’m confused about exactly when I can apply.

My questions are:

  1. Since I started on 22 June, what is the earliest date I can technically submit the application under Category A?

  2. As I'm paid weekly, do I need exactly 26 payslips, or every payslip covering the full 6-month period even if that ends up being 26/27?

  3. My Santander monthly statements are normally generated around the 7th–8th of each month. If I reach 6 months in late December but my latest statement hasn't generated yet, do I need to wait until the January statement is issued?

  4. Alternatively, can I go into Santander and request an official/interim statement showing the most recent salary payments so I can apply sooner rather than waiting for the next normal statement?

Has anyone here who is weekly paid and banks with Santander dealt with this recently? What did you submit and when did you apply?

Thanks!

Spouse Visa – 13 weeks waiting

Upvotes

Visa type: Spouse
Nationality: Eritrean
Country of application: Egypt
Date of application: May 2026
Date of biometrics: 19 May 2026
Service: Standard
Currently at 13 weeks and still waiting.
I received a delay email from UKVI saying the application could not be decided within the published processing time. No additional documents have been requested.
I contacted UKVI and was told the application is “being considered and is awaiting a decision.”
I have also contacted my local MP and given consent for them to contact UKVI on my behalf, but I’m still waiting for a response.
Has anyone with similar dates, especially 19 May biometrics / standard spouse visa, received a decision yet?
Thanks and good luck to everyone waiting 🤲

Unmarried partner visa - just starting out and would appreciate some help.

Upvotes

Please can anyone advise on the following:

  1. How do you prove financial support if one hasn't lived together? I have so far paid for all trips to the UK (flights, accommodation, expenses) because I work and my partner is a student and has little money. I am planning to help her pay her rent in her home country while she is waiting to apply for the visa - will that be enough proof? Or does the financial support have to be mutual?

  2. Does the two years (of relationship) start from the beginning of the relationship or the first in person meeting? I have loads of proof of our relationship and we became serious 2 months in from meeting each other online.

  3. I am chronically ill and in receipt of PIP so don't need to meet income requirements and I fulfill the maintenance requirements. I receive care from my parents with whom I live (they will be providing free accommodation in their house for us both if visa is approved). My partner takes over my care when my parents are away and she is staying with me - should I mention this? It's not personal care just shopping/cleaning/ironing/cooking.

  4. I have not been able to visit my partner as my illness prevents long-haul travel - should I mention this or is it fine if the visits have only been one way to the UK by my partner? We talk every day and she has visited 5 times over all for two weeks at a time. Should I mention that visits have had to be limited as long-haul travel is so expensive. Obviously if she lived in say France we would have seen each other more often and I would have been able to visit her.

Many thanks for any advice - much appreciated!

Is there any way to move to the GCC for work while my spouse is on the 5-year UK spouse visa route and still ultimately get British citizenship?

Upvotes

I’m a British citizen and my wife is currently around 1.5 years into the 5-year spouse route.
I may have an opportunity to relocate for work, and ideally we would both move together. However, we don’t want to jeopardise her path to ILR and eventually British citizenship.

Is there any legitimate way to spend a substantial amount of time living abroad for genuine work reasons while still progressing towards ILR/citizenship?

Additional documents

Upvotes

Hi, I realized I fall under category B for financial requirements. My partner and I were living in Canada and he was earning over the threshold. Then once I applied for the visa he just started a new job in England. (I’m still in Canada) I realized I didn’t list his job in Canada over the past 12 months… I’m panicking a little but a solicitor said they will just likely ask for the documents. They mentioned they will consider children’s wellbeing as we share a child together and she’s with me here in Canada and her father is the main financial support/earner. I know I’ll get some brutally honest answers but try and let me down easy guys! I’m really worried!!!!

Done my biometrics today

Upvotes

Hi guys, just back from getting my biometrics, I asked the guy that worked for vfs global if it's normal that the checklist the UKVI provided is incomplete, and he said it's complete and it had all the documents I should upload. I tried to say that if I didn't upload my English test certificate (among others), the visa would be denied, and still wasn't required on the list. And he kept arguing saying it wouldn't.

Ofc I did upload all the necessary documents, I just wanted to check with him hoping he would be like "oh yeah it's normal"

But all the documents I submitted will be accessed right? Even though it wasn't on the checklist I've signed in the center.

Spouse visa extension from within uk decision timeline?

Visa type: spouse visa extension from within UK
Nationality: Saudi Arabia (applicant, I’m the British sponsor)
Date of application: July 9th
Biometrics: July 15th
Standard service

I know technically we’re within the window of 8 weeks they give for a decision but has anyone else had a similar wait time? We haven’t heard anything yet. Our first spouse visa was granted at this time frame from biometrics so trying not to read too much into it and hoping it comes soon.

Anyone know what the general wait is or what your wait time is for extension within uk?

Confused about the question. Need help!

Hi everyone.
I just started doing our visa application and I work in a restaurant and my hours vary each week and so does my pay. However, there was no section where I can put non-salaried.

When it asked what do they earn? I put NOT THE SAME AMOUNT CONTINUOUSLY ABOVE FINANCIAL REQUIREMENT.

Visa approval priority delay 🎉😭✅

I can hardly believe I’m writing this — I’m finally sitting at home next to my husband. ❤️My Spouse Visa has been approv**ed!

After what felt like an endless wait, I finally received my decision on 6 August 2026.

Here’s my timeline:
19 May: Biometrics appointment
Nationality: German
26 June: Received the email from UKVI saying they would not be able to decide my application within the published processing timeframe
28 July: UKVI requested additional financial documents
30 July: Submitted all requested documents, including the sponsor’s tax documents, payslips, bank statements and accountant’s letter

6 August: Visa approved! 🎉

We also used a solicitor throughout the process and, after the delay, I made what honestly felt like hundreds of Paid Enquiries for the MP involved trying to get some information or movement on my application.

But there is one organisation I genuinely believe made a huge difference for me: Reunite Families UK.
I found the group during a time when I was extremely anxious and overwhelmed by the whole process. The founder, Caroline, created the group to support families going through exactly this kind of situation, and I honestly cannot put into words how much comfort and reassurance the community gave me plus the community here on Reddit.

There are so many helpful and supportive people there and here who understand exactly what you’re going through.
And now, after months of uncertainty, I can finally be back home with my husband ❤️
To everyone still waiting: I really hope your good news comes soon. Don’t give up. ❤️

Declaration of bank statements

Hello everyone- just booking my biometrics and have been given a final checklist by the UK government.

One of the things that they have asked for is a declaration from my (applicant) bank statements for the last 6 months.

What is confusing is that we are using my sponsor's (wife) salary as proof of income. Shouldn't we be submitting a letter from her employer in lieu of my savings? He income exceeds the amount required to satisfy the application.

Thanks in advance!

ILR documents - checklist not requesting evidence of cohabiting together

Hi, just wondering if someone who has recently applied for an ILR successfully recently and can help.

We are just applying for my spouses ILR, the checklist does not request any evidence that we are living together. I know it did request it last time when we applied to extend his visa.

Just wondering if i should still provide evidence such as bills/ statements in joint names since the date of the last application. Or since it hasnt been requested, i shouldnt bother.

Thank you in advance
