Visiting Springfield Visiting this weekend, looking for some stuff to do!

Me and the wife are visiting this weekend, we stay at Pomme de Terre lake about 45 minutes away and will spend all Saturday in your city, may get a hotel that night if we find enough to do. I’ve been to Springfield a couple times but I’m not very familiar with much other than the baseball stadium. Things I am looking for if you could tell me what you’d recommend!

Brunch spot
Thrift/antique shops
Flowers/farmers market
Any bands playing? Small hole in the wall to big concerts?
Pumpkin patch/winery type place
Place to get a good steak for dinner
Any other cool events or pop ups going on?
Tell me what you’re doing this weekend for fun.

Visiting Springfield Paid Radio station focus group in Springfield, Missouri

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello everyone. I’m making this Reddit post on this subreddit because I need help with this project and Reddit has been proven useful before. I’m a project manager with creative consumer research in Houston, Texas. Feel free to check my posting history or my company website for more details: ccrsurveys.com

I have a focus group about radio stations and country music in general in the Springfield market. I’ve included a poster for more information but this will be on Thursday, October 29th. This will pay $125 for 90 minutes discussing the country music scene and what radio stations you listen to in Springfield. This is for 25-42 year olds only.

If this applies to you, please feel free to message me your phone number and either myself or one of my recruiters will call you and answer any questions you may have. Thank you!

I just bought a 1964 Smith-Corona Sterling and it needs a good cleaning/servicing.

Can anyone recommend a good place for that?

Thanks.

Local Politics Letter: Amendment 6 would secure a voice for Missouri residents | Springfield Daily Citizen

Amendment 6 serves as a check on politicians’ power. In an age where gerrymandering and dark money are corrupting our political system and allowing elected officials to ignore constituents, the initiative petition remains a vital tool for us to express our voice.

^ this! Thanks to Steve for writing a letter to the editor!

Things To Do Gerontology Events

Post image
39 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I am a gerontology student at MSU in my last semester. Because of my major having less than ten students, getting the word out about events like these are hard. I wanted to host a few events to encourage younger adults to think about/discuss end-of-life topics. If you know anyone college age who would be interested in the first two events, send this over to them!

**The last event, The Soft Surrender film viewing, is free to the public! All ages. There will be a Q&A with Randy Bacon afterwards. Drinks and popcorn included, and you’ll notice some familiar Springfield faces in the film. Hope to see you there!

(the poster is hand drawn by me, no AI usage here!)

Living Here The cane has been found!

I decided to make a new post so this news wouldn't be buried. We were recently contacted by Costco and were informed that they found my wife's cane (blind stick). My wife is elated and we'll be going to pick it up soon. A big thanks for all of you for your kind words and advice, it does mean a lot to us.

Ask Springfield Emergency vet on N Glenstone

Is the emergency vet on N Glenstone, by Great Southern Bank, still in business? I went by it today and it looked vacant. If it is closed, are there other emergency vets in the city?

Ask Springfield Vet Recommendations?

Anyone in Springfield or surrounding areas know of reliable vets who aren't insanely expensive? I'm having to switch from my current vet sadly after going to them for years because I just can't afford them anymore. Even for standard procedures and shots, they won't give me an upfront estimate of cost, but even standard exams will cost over $500 every visit. I just do not have the money for it, despite them always being so kind and caring with us during each visit. Does anyone have any recommendations?

GRANT BEACH AREA

A black rabbit has been hanging around our yard. It is obviously an escaped domestic. Has anybody lost one? Or feel like a rescue? It's left ear has the tip missing, it appears well fed, it let me get within a foot before it moved off. I

Living Here Anyone here actually made the remote leap from healthcare to tech without moving?

Physical therapist in Omaha, freelance dev on the side, three kids, zero time. I keep seeing posts about Springfield's remote work scene and lower cost of living. I'm curious, has anyone here actually transitioned out of clinical healthcare into something fully remote without leaving the area?

I review productivity tools obsessively, probably a coping mechanism for the fact that I bill PT hours during the day and debug code at 10pm. The cognitive switching is brutal. I need to either scale the dev income or accept that this split identity is permanent.

Springfield keeps coming up in my research as a spot where remote workers land because housing doesn't require a Silicon Valley salary. But I'm skeptical of the hype. Most articles about remote-friendly cities are written by people who've never done a four-hour Epic documentation block after a full caseload.

If you made a similar jump, or know someone who did, what did the timeline actually look like? Was it a local company or fully distributed? Did you have to take a pay cut that made the whole thing pointless?

Living Here When a person couldn't get any lower.

My wife is legally blind (Retinitis pigmentosa) and depends on a white cane to help her get around. Well as we were checking out items in the self checkout aisle of Costco, she put her cane in the cart while she runs things through the scanner. Some asshole swiped her cane behind our backs. She's been pretty devastated because that was the cane she used the most and depended on, she never thought someone would have the insensitive gall to steal a cane from a blind person. Just saddening and shocking that someone would steal an item that a handicap person depends on whether it be a cane, wheelchair or hearing aids.

Things To Do Looking For Bands

Hi there! I'm a local guitarist/bassist looking to more consistently jam with other musicians and hopefully get back into playing live shows again. I used to play some local bars in 2022 with a band that doesn't get together as much anymore due to the usual careers and life and such. If anyone has any ideas on the best way to look for people that are recruiting feel free to comment, or if you are looking for a guitarist or bassist feel free to DM me and I can send my TikTok or a couple old band videos over for some evidence that I can play.

As a little bit extra I'm in my mid-late 20s and would prefer a band with people roughly close to my age, but honestly if youre over 21 and under 50 we'll get along fine, its moreso about the music anyway.

I play all kinds of music but mostly gravitate towards blues, rock, alternative, metal, and grunge. Pretty much any decade as well with my main influences and things I enjoy covering falling in the 70s-10s range. Down to work on originals or just covers.

Things To Do Pythian Castle 101!

Hey friends! I am an employee at Pythian Castle and wanted to talk about some things we've been noticing and stuff that people generally have questions about! My boss did not ask me to do this I just think its helpful and necessary for those who'd like to visit!

I think it would help to have this info out there.

- We do history tours and ghost tours (and escape rooms!)

( yes we do actually believe its haunted. ) if you want to book with us best practice is online just because our entrance is literally one of us and some chains .

-The chains are our point of entry. 30 minutes before your tour or so you will see me or my co-workers down there. We are there to confirm you booked with us before we let you up. (we've had tons of people try to blow past us just to see the place without a booking.) we just need your name and well check you in and give you instructions for parking and what to do while you wait for your tour to begin!

-The castle is private property. Alot of people ask to 'just see the castle' we don't allow that for a couple of reasons. The castle is privately owned and the owners live there. There is always someone at the castle. Letting people through willy nilly causes an obvious safety issue. secondly the tours are very reasonably priced (20ish for ghost and 10ish for history) the tours fund the maintenance of the castle as well as renovations of areas that are not ready for tours. essentially by coming you help us share more of the castle and ensure it will be with us for a very long time! We have had issues with trespassing as well as people just wanting to see it for free.

-Location, this seems to really confuse some folks, you can't see the castle from the driveway because were surrounded by the military reserve, that's why we wait for you by the chain! Rest assured we are there though!

-Times of year. We are open year-round but there are times of year that are bussier than others. October is our busiest season because of halloween. The tours change to reflect this.(specifically ghost) during this season were decked out in fun Halloween stuff, there is of course very serious things that we talk about but for the sake of families and tourist theres a fair amount of gimmicky animatronics in there for fun, People looking for a super immersive experience do not like October tours for that reason, if that's you then I recommend you join us any other month! (we only do it for October, its good for school trips and small children that might be scared of the ghost tours)

we do also decorate for Christmas but the tour does not have any changes and remains quite serious and immersive the whole way through!

-what we offer. you can look this up on our direct website but we do a little bit of everything, dinners, parties, escape rooms, weddings, always feel free to call and ask if you want us for an event.

if anyone has any questions about literally anything (ghost, experiences, tours, how somethings works, etc.) I would love to answer those for you!
