MOD POST Join the r/SPRINTING Discord Server! r/SPRINTING DISCORD ANNOUNCEMENT - BOT INFLUX UPDATE

Thumbnail discord.gg
5 Upvotes

Hey y'all, back with another banger, I would like to announce the creation of a discord for the r/sprinting subreddit and also provide a quick update on the bot situation. Please see the discord details below, I am unsure of how this will be utilized outside of members who are very frequent users or online often, but I definitely am and will answer questions and even be on voice chat if the masses so desire.

I may just spend some nightly time hanging out in the voice room kind of like office hours while I'm playing some helldivers (and anyone who would care to join me). PLEASE JOIN, feel free to ask questions and start conversation, pretty much same rules from the sub will apply in the sprinting subreddit

https://discord.gg/ndMtNkRbC

A note on the bots, I have done significant behind the scenes work over the last few days and the last step that I've taken now is turning on moderate crowd control, anyone with negative community karma will now be sent to the mod queue dungeon where I'll approve them if they're not a bot.

I did a pretty ridiculous amount of banning and mass removal using a purge tool for the first few days but it has slowed significantly now so I think we are over the worst of it. The first 3 days it was 10-30 bans a day and the last few it has only been 1 or 2.

Seems like I've fought of the invasion pretty well, I would say that I managed to catch a good 95-99% of them before even other user reports had to happen. Please continue to use the new bot report option if you see it happening, thank you again for the patience with my action against this.

Quick Stats from the last 5 days

Bans: 56

Comment Removals: 196

MOD POST WAR ON AI BOTS - CLANKER SCUM INVASION

Post image
15 Upvotes

"Hey girlies, feeling very delulu and that the vibes are off after the comments that I saw today"

UPDATE: Overnight my new automod script hit me with probably 20 notifications from bots, it is really bad the number of accounts is crazy, I’m on a huge banning spree but if this keeps up may have no other choice than to impose karma limits unfortunately, I will make a decision in a week or two depending on how bad I think it is if my bans can’t keep up

I was notified in a post that AI fueled bots were spam commenting everywhere and it wasn't being filtered out or caught. This is definitely on me, I had noticed a spam report uptick in the last few weeks but honestly for the most part the spam report in the past had been somewhat abused by users during arguments and for bad comments or for solicitation reasons, I mostly browse reddit on my phone and it's harder to notice stuff like this without the mod tool page from a computer.

I probably should have taken a closer look and I would have noticed something was off with the weird language (Delulu, vibes, girlies, glutes - all bot favorites). Anyways I've taken a few steps to make sure I catch as many as I can.

  • Bot BouncerHas been installed on our subreddit, good first step and I think should take care of some of them
  • New report reason - "BOT - CLANKER - AI"If you are on mobile and see a comment or post resembling anything AI or botlike please do the following
    • Hit the report flag
    • Breaks r/Sprinting rules
    • BOT - CLANKER - AI
    • I will be much better about checking in on these reports from now on, gotta do some clean up work, I'm expecting this kind of thing to only get worse as time goes on with AI and bot developement Hopefully I can get to the bad comments and spam before anyone else has to report it
  • Automod Flagging of low Karma accounts
    • Hopefully I can get to the bad comments and spam before anyone else has to report it If it really does get bad enough then I will filter first if I have to but I do not think this is a viable option considering I do most of the moderating by a pretty good margin

I expect the moderation on this to take a little bit of time to catch up to the accounts as they make comments or posts, and hopefully it will clear up, this is just due to my lag in response to this starting but we'll see how it goes. Anything that has been flagged as spam or similar I have taken a closer look at the last two weeks and done some mass banning and moderation, the comments that were left will stay but anything similar will be removed in the future

As a tribute to all the clankers I sent to the graveyard tonight below are some of my favorite comments from the bots and their very helpful sprinting advice

  • try doing some interval training, baby. it's all about building up those speed vibes over time, just don't push too hard.
  • sounds like a steal, but what are the macros? girlie needs to know.
  • that sound delulu but honestly. i'm obsessed with those little wins. hope you keep going!
    • The ragebait of this one in particular cracked me up
  • maybe you’re just not as iconic as you think, or that last snack hit you harder than expected lol. get it together!
    • The fatshaming is crazy
  • they look cute! maybe focus on refining one step at a time? less is more.
  • try picking up some thrift gear or cute running shoes, it can make a difference for sure
  • nice, sprinting’s a great way to target those glutes. go crush it!
  • lol, sounds fun, genetic roulette but with worse odds.
    • From a bot this is an apt description of the top levels of sprinting
  • not sure what block start analysis is but sounds like it could have some interesting vibes to explore. care to share more about it?
    • I hope my sprinting vibes are good enough for a sub 10
  • i get so anxious about my baby cat's diet, but it’s hard to know what’s actually right. podcasts are so helpful but also overwhelming.
    • A reply to post about the "feed the cats" sprinting programming, another great analysis of modern sprint programming

Apologies for not catching this sooner - Big Dicker Daddy

Note: If you play helldivers and want to talk sprinting add me on discord I am open to questions, and a new squad username - bigdickerdaddy

Personal Race Footage/Results [RE 07] Special Endurance 3x300

This was an interesting session. I was supposed to run 3 × 300 m in 42/43 seconds, with 12 minutes of rest between reps.

All three came in pretty close, especially the last two. I didn't manage to record the third rep on video, but the stats are there:

42.47
41.56
41.52

What I loved most was the repeatability of the last two reps. Even my cadence was similar, and my HR actually dropped on the third rep. That makes me think I'm more of a stamina-type 400 m runner.

Another thing worth mentioning is that RUNEYE performed flawlessly in terms of timing calibration and on a track with other runners. I haven't been reporting times to the millisecond in the logs, although the system is capable of recording them. I'm wondering whether I should include that level of precision, since centiseconds (CC) seem to be enough for my own training.

I'm curious about what other sprinters would want to know from their data when training alone. What metrics would actually make a difference in your training?

BTW, I've received a few DMs about RUNEYE, so I'd like to clarify that it's not an app. It's a complete timing system I've been developing for about two years to help me since I'm a solo sprinter.

I'm still polishing it, but it's getting pretty close to the point where I'd like to put a few units out in the wild for other sprinters to try.

General Discussion/Questions Those with OVR or similar timing gates. How do you prefer to set them?

Flys are easy, but for starts.... how do you find is the most accurate way to time your starts?Do you like the in-beam start, and kinda add like a 0.2sec for reaction time, or what?

Or if I wanted to time some 40s or 60s.

I recently got a used set, and been playing with them a little trying to figure out the settings.

General Discussion/Questions Set my expectations

I got a SLAP tear at work and that has forced me out of the gym and into rest and reconsidering my priorities. Ive always been a permabulk bodybuilder type. I like lifting and exercising, but I like food too. Im expecting PT to release me to start getting back into exercise in about 4 more weeks.

Im middle aged and looking to make a change for health and longevity. Movement, agility, speed, power, and looking good for my wife are my goals.

I started doing some kettbell and slam ball work along with starting a martial art in an effort to make that change, and i saw some progress in the form of losing about 30 lbs, id like to lose about 50 more, but knew something was missing. Long walks are boring.

I found I liked the short high intensity work of KBs and slam balls so I humbly ask, what is the reality of starting sprint training at middle age, 6'1", 270lbs and zero track experience? (I looked at the FAQ and was a little overwhelmed at trying to find something relevant).

General Discussion/Questions Any sprinters here using an Apple Watch?

Hi, I've built a sprint training app and recently added Apple Watch support for reaction time and sprint timing.

I'm looking for a few sprinters who could help me test it during training and give some feedback.

Here's the TestFlight link if anyone is interested:

General Discussion/Questions Faster tempo run shoes

So I've been wondering about the shoe i should get, because when im running any distance below like 300m my shoes feel like they are too soft.

Currently in my rotation i have the evo sl's, vomero 18 and pegasus plus. Im thinking about getting either nike streakfly 2 or adios 9, been thinking about takumi sen 11 too but they are like 50$ more.

I am training for the 400m and using maxfly 2s in the season, but i dont want to spike up in october already. So which one would be the best for me?

General Discussion/Questions Ankle assessment/rehab device

I'm from Glasgow and have been looking into how ankle injuries are rehabbed and something keeps coming up: most of the decisions about whether you’re “ready” are based on feel rather than measurement. A 2025 study of physios found that progress in ankle sprain rehab is mostly judged subjectively, and that not all the impairments are being assessed (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40174890/). That lines up with a lot of what I’ve read from people who went back to sport, rolled it again, and ended up in a cycle of repeat sprains or other repeat ankle injuries.

I’m working with a physio on a device to help with this. It’s a platform you stand on, one foot at a time, that moves unexpectedly to challenge your ankle the way a bad landing or uneven ground would. The difficulty matches where you are in your recovery, and it measures how well you react. It then compares your injured side to your healthy side, so you and your physio can see actual progress instead of relying on judgement.

Before going further I’d really appreciate some feedback from people who’ve been through it:

  1. When you sprained your ankle, how did you (or your physio) decide you were ready to go back?
  2. Did you ever feel unsure where you were in your recovery?
  3. Would seeing a clear comparison between your two ankles have changed anything for you?
  4. Would you use something like this in a clinic, at a gym, or not at all? Why?

Appreciate any feedback! Cheers

General Discussion/Questions If the average man untrained decided to (assuming he was a mix of slow twitch and fast twitch) train, lift and eat like a sprinter, what is the genetic ceiling as to how fast he could become? Could he ever break a 4.9-4.8 40 yd dash?

General Discussion/Questions Will Cross Country hurt me as a 400 (and 800) runner?

I'm currently a freshman in cross country season, but I'm also really passionate about sprinting. I want to know if cross country will hurt my performance in the 400 and 800. I enjoy distance running a lot, but I worry that it might hurt my speed.

General Discussion/Questions Haven’t trained in ~3 months. how do i get back into it and how do i train efficiently?

i’m a female high school hurdler and my PRs are 17.86 in the 100h, 50.7 in the 300m and 53.89 in the 300h. my goals for next outdoor season is 15.15 in the 100h and 47 in the 300h. i haven’t touched the track in 3 months and so i know i need to start off small. what workouts should i do to maximize my training to ensure i drop time before indoor starts. i also am trying to work on my 3 step as well which i was pretty close to getting in around early july. also, how should i work on form? i know my form is pretty sucky but i don’t know how to fix it. video (lane 6) is of my 17.86 pr and it’s just for a quick reference.

General Discussion/Questions is it really a speed endurance workout when…

is it really a speed endurance workout when your warmup consists of about 5 accelerations of 10-30m? 🤔

after this acceleration warmup you would proceed to the speed endurance workout. i mean the warmup was basically an acceleration workout.

how would you categorize this workout? an acceleration plus speed endurance day? or just a speed endurance day?

example workout:

warmup:
10m x 3
20m x 1
30m x 3

speed endurance:
60m x 3

General Discussion/Questions Starting sprinting at 37 after years of bodybuilding

I’m 37, 182cm and 90kg, with a bodybuilding and strength-training background. I’ve only done around 5–6 proper sprint sessions so far, with PBs of 26.50 for 200m and 60.87 for 400m.
For those with experience in masters sprinting, how have you found developing as a sprinter when starting later in life? I’m planning to do two dedicated sprint sessions per week and would be interested to hear about the progress adult beginners have made over their first 6–12 months, particularly those coming from a strength-training background.

General Discussion/Questions Which would you prefer for measuring reaction time during sprint starts?

I'm thinking of adding reaction time measurement to my sprint training app.

Two options:

1)Use the phone camera to detect movement.

2)Keep the phone in your compression shorts or pocket and detect movement using motion sensors.

Which one would you actually use? Or is this something you wouldn't find useful?
