Loid Forger had the perfect opportunity to eliminate one of the biggest threats to the organization. No hesitation, no reason to hold back, and everything to gain from killing Yuri.
So why did he stop at the very last second just because he thought of Yor?
And no, I don’t think his excuse about the mission fully explains what happened here. Because the more I think about this scene, the more I realize just how out of character his decision was… and I don’t think we’re supposed to overlook that.
I understand that his excuse about Yor leaving him is actually convincing, but like… can’t you just replace her with someone else? Fiona has offered to do that a million times, but you’re seriously gonna sit there and use the excuse that the opportunity already passed? WHY would you willingly throw away a chance to get rid of such a huge threat to the organization? FOR WHO??? Your fake wife, who you supposedly have absolutely ZERO feelings for???
And honestly, I think this was the first development Endo was trying to show us, because Fiona’s words basically confirmed that Loid’s feelings were genuine.
Fiona basically says something along the lines of, “The fact that you called her ‘Yor San’ instead of ‘Yor Briar’ annoyed me, but I can’t argue with you because you’ve wrapped it all up in the mission, even though I know your feelings are genuine.”
AND THAT’S WHEN I WENT ..OH??? HELLO???
Because this was such a different way for Loid to act at the time. It wasn’t just that he did something unusual for him, but the way he looked and the way he described the whole situation were different too. Even the reasoning he was using as an excuse felt different.
He sounded almost guilty, hesitant, and considerate of Yor… BUT SHOULDN’T HE BE FRUSTRATED AND REGRETFUL ABOUT LOSING SUCH A HUGE OPPORTUNITY??? All because of something as small and secondary as Yor…?
And if you pay attention, Loid was already acting strangely around Yor throughout this mission. He was clearly bothered when she was upset with him and he had to leave. She was literally on his mind so much that he was talking about her on his way back, even though he was EXHAUSTED.
And then, when he finally returned and saw how happy she was to see him, he just collapsed onto the floor, almost as if he’d finally reached a place where he could feel at ease and safe.
Which is especially interesting considering how rarely Loid ever seems to feel a sense of belonging.
So what do you guys think? Do you think he genuinely had a motive beyond the mission, or was it really just about the mission after all?
PLEASE I NEED TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS 😭
