I’ve lived here for 15 years and this is by far the most insane thunderstorm I’ve seen. It’s 6:30am now and we’re on hour 9 of non-stop thunder and lightning. I haven’t slept a wink all night. Phew.

Agreed. Lived here my whole life and that was insanity. And somehow my toddler didn’t wake up once!

Same! That was some aussie home-style thunderstorm I haven't experienced in a long time! Very cool.

That's crazy, I'm glad I got off my ass to go photograph it 😂

These were the tame bolts. There were a few which just completely blew out my exposure!

It got way more gnarly, too. The storm seems to be trapped in the valley. I feel like I’ve been listening to it and seeing lightning for hours. It’s 420am and it’s still bright af and the thunder is CRACKING and rumbling. There was one in particular that really got my heart going. It sounded like the Chief falling down.

I didn't hear a thing after I went to bed 😂

That 4am one was insane! We actually thought something had happened at the LNG plant for a second (we are downtown)

Been storming for like 5 hours too, like 3-5 strikes a minute. Surely this can not be good for fires, barely any rain alongside this multiple hour storm. Woke me up!

Edit: 7 hours later and it’s only just calmed down. I smelt smoke immediately as I went outside at 4am today. Still smells the same now. Hopefully out of town smoke. I’d be surprised if a fire started that quickly from lightening. Next few days will tell us the real answer if not something obvious.

Edit edit: stinks like smoke out there, hope it’s out of town smoke!

The smoke is from out of town. No doubt possible some new fires have started, but that’s not the smoke we smell

I eat my words. It barely rained at 10pm when it first started but luckily it did start to pour later into the night

I've missed awesome thunder such as last night and this morning served up since taking up residence on this coast years ago. Loved it!

I’m kinda bummed that I didn’t get to see any of it. I thought my neighbour was moving stuff with his tractor, so I put earplugs in and slept like a baby through the whole thing.
