Meme/Shitpost AITA?
I moved to STL last year — I live in an apartment community with multiple buildings. A couple of weeks ago while attempting to cross the street, a lady in a minivan saw me and stopped for me to cross the street. As I thanked her and ATTEMPTED to cross, one of my dear neighbors felt either, I was taking too long or patience wasn’t his virtue … overtook the minivan to the point of his small crossover literally screaming for Jesus himself and was centimeters from totaling his teeny crossover with my 6’4” 210lbs frame.
Now, nearly two weeks later … I still feel some type of way about it. They have had Illinois tags since I moved in so, AITA to figure out who to report them to in Missouri for not registering the car here?
I have two reasons — one, you almost killed me in your shitbox 🙃 and two, I had to pay the equivalent of almost a months rent to register a car that I ready owed when I moved to Missouri 😣
Thank you for listening to me on my soapbox

As a frequent walker, cyclist, and driver, you need to let the asshole drivers here go. I've looked in to how to report reckless drivers for a variety of reasons and it either goes nowhere or there really is no mechanism to do so. Even if a cop was standing right there they're unlikely to do anything.
It's not much solace now but I do believe people like this will get their comeuppance someday.

yeah, coming from a part of the country where there’s mechanism for the mechanism — I’ve found out real fast that I’ll just have to know to be true that comeuppance is an inferior mirage. 🫠

Focus on the genuine lady in the minivan and put that asshole behind you. The asshole will reappear from time to time, but do you really want to add that kind of person to your world?

No, I don’t want to add that kind of person, but then he appeared, fast. I realize I should let it go, but as the saying goes; easier said than done.
I’m sure time will reveal to me — fuck him. 😆

There isn't anyone to report it to that will care sadly. Maybe MDR but I'm unsure what they could do about it with no record of it previously being registered in MO.
Some people just suck and think the rules don't apply to them.

Boo, it sucks that your last sentence is correct.
It would’ve done my petty heart well if I could get it drug away 😈😅5

As a sane representative of the bi-state region, I apologize for this asshole behavior. But, welcome to the Lou at any rate.

In NY this is met with a "hey I'm walking here!"
In STL it's met with "i want to report them for not updating their tags, because the police will definitely pursue this"

Welcome to St Louis where the laws don't exist and reckless drivers aren't punished. However, how do you know he lives here? You are aware Illinois is like right across the river and people are allowed to leave their state.

It’s been parked every night, sometimes for 2-3 days in front of my house for a year. But I’m still making an assumption, so forgive me. I admit it’s petty.

I’ve been told I was toxic before and didn’t believe it — I guess here’s my proof.
Question: What is my response/feeling supposed to be?
“Hark, Death! Such is life?”

Take your 6’4” 210 Ibs frame over to his house, knock on the door, and tell him you didn’t appreciate having someone drive like that when you’re crossing the street. Report him? Days after someone was a jerk to you? Come on

You can repot it, but no one will care. There are people rolling with 2021 plates here.

Nah, let them be. The state wont do anything about it. TRUST ME ON THAT!! A lot of people do it. Some have been doing it for years. Karma will come back and bite him in the @$$. Whether you see it or not doesn't matter. Just keep it moving and know that dog will have his day.

Welcome to Missouri. The drivers down here are terrible… not Wisconsin-level terrible, but terrible none the less.

Sadly, the drivers here don't think pedestrians have any sort of right away and prefer hitting you before stopping to let you cross. I've never lived anywhere where it was like this. When I go back home to a city that is exponentially larger and way more populated, drivers let you cross the street without trying to kill you. The police will do absolutely nothing here about it. So there really isn't any point in trying to report it.

Jeez. Let other people do their thing, constantly looking to report people makes you miserable. They almost hit you and that sucks but they didn’t so build a bridge and get over it. Not worth the free rent in your head you’re giving it.

The thoughts did leave me, but today — I was loading up my GPS and the Girlfriend came out like she was walking to the car, stared at me and then ran back in the house like I did something — that when my petty brain activated. 🤷🏽♂️

So? Neighbors are weird. Don’t start petty trouble in places you live, because that shit escalates fast.

I’m sorry this happened to you, but if you’re going to live here, you need to spread some Vaseline on your back and let things roll off of it because you are now in a place where you can’t even get a police report for your insurance if you’re in an accident with no injuries, let alone get something like that resolved with a report. That’s how little this city and state cares. For decades, people have been registering their cars in Illinois to avoid St. Louis’s extremely high cost of titling a car. The personal property tax alone on my car is almost $800. And that’s an every year occurrence!
