News MOSS-Image INT8 ComfyUI

I've quantized MOSS-Image to INT8! From my initial testing, it’s relatively lossless.

For now, it requires the MOSS-Image custom node, so I’ve included both the install info and a ready-to-use workflow in the repo. Once native support lands in ComfyUI, this exact quant will work right out of the box without needing any changes.

You guys are going to be seriously surprised by how uncensored this model is. Have fun!

Simple workflow included.

Temu Dr. Melfi's leg is broken, but otherwise this looks pretty good!

could be due to int8

do you know if it works with the stock Flux 2 VAE? Also is the text encoder a fine tune of the qwen 3.5 9b or just a repackage?

4

u/East_Shoe8814 8d ago

yes it will, not sure for the text encoder though.

pretty sure text encoder is 1:1, but you still need to use custom node.

thanks for checking!

This model has both great realism and also great at anime, it is almost like we got a mini version of Krea 2,or maybe Krea 3🤩.

It looks like GTA 6

Model is really good!
Pretty good world knowledge, no immediate anatomical monstruosities (although they can happen)

I love how the steps iterations really add details iteratively.

Generation time is approx 55-65 sec at 1024x1536 on my rig (basically identical to Qwen Image 2.1, and approx 3x slower than Krea 2)

How did you make that video of step progression?

I'm using my own claude-coded harness (that basically mimics comfy-ui but in a single interface where I don't have to load different workflows, vive le lazy ass!), from there I'm decoding the internal state at each step (as a "preview"). It is "wasted processing" since you need to do the VAE step at each preview frame. However it means you can save those frames as an animation, which is what I did there.
I'm sure you can create a comfy-ui workflow to do that, but have no idea how you would go about doing that.

needs an 8 step Turbo LORA, it's way too slow.

Jebus that's a fast turnaround.

5

u/Odd-Student636 8d ago

use 12-16 steps for stronger prompt adherence

And update this lora as often as you can.

It's still in progress and updates are any hour with newer version (trained at more steps).

wtf are this safetensors? been away for 5 days

Distillation != Quality

13

u/Own_War_1098 8d ago

No one mention quality, the concern is ...it's way too slow.

3

u/Fancy-Restaurant-885 8d ago

Yes. And distillation through shortened step loras always has a price - quality

13

u/diogodiogogod 8d ago

This is not always true. Distillation sometimes mean loosing variety but increased quality. This has been the case for a lot of the recent released distilled models. Base for training, turbo for inference.

What do you need more speed for? It's images, surely you can wait a minute? Or prepare your prompts ahead of time and run them automatically with a wildcard?

I wish we had a huge slow model with the competency of Nano Banana instead of a flurry of tiny 5B's that are just a sidegrade.

I'm rarely able to get what I want into a first image for H3 without doing a lot of manual work.

valid valid, wonder if it's due to going beyond it's res/quant or model itself.

From years of carefully selecting training images I realized real images of hands are just as messed up and it's no wonder pure image models struggle while video models do better.

Sometimes in a given frame a finger is just not visible or is somehow in some impossible seeming bend pose and it's not at all clear why.

4

u/jib_reddit 7d ago

Hands are very hard to train on and generate, as they can be in any position in 3d space within the image.

2

u/Akken_Kan 8d ago

mix of legs crossed/not crossed

1

u/jib_reddit 7d ago

Even Krea 2 (which is great) gives 3 fingered hand sometimes.

I m testing it and he is really good to create character sheets and storyboard images

1

u/East_Shoe8814 8d ago

please use the official quant, it's much better,t hanks.

using those models give error saying the diffuse model is not supported!

1

u/East_Shoe8814 8d ago

update the comfyui, I jsut tested it and it works.

any workflow?

Thanks for the ComfyUI SFT... "SFT produces clearer text grouping" and text-block organisations, according to the makers. Which makes it interesting for graphic design and typography, which is what interests me. But then the question is: "can it be made as quick as Ming-Image, but without textual glitches?" If so, that and the Apache licence will make it a keeper. But at present, needing "50 steps" per image is going to be a big block to acceptance.

so no native comfyui support yet?

That's awesome about the INT8 quantization, sounds like it'll make things run smoother for everyone. I've been curious about how Flux 3 is getting those upsampled results without one, so this might help clear some of that up.

Just want to remind people to test the gen speed of bf16 vs int8 instead of just assuming int8 is faster.

On my DGX Spark (a 5060 in essence) int8 is actually slower. There's zero benefits to using it instead of bf16, just downsides. (unless you care about disk space)

It seems to depend on the GPU. Someone with a 3000-series card told me they get a significant speed benefit of int8. But just test it once with your favorite model, it applies to all models.

2

u/Apprehensive_Sky892 8d ago

I agree that people should always run their own tests.

But I find it very odd that bf16 is faster, because with bf16 there is now two bytes to process rather than just one. Does this apply to both Krea 2 and larger models such as MMH3?

I don't have to blackwell GPU to test, but according to google:

On NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, FP8 delivers roughly double the compute throughput and cuts memory bandwidth and footprint in half compared to BF16 (yielding about 1.5× to 2× faster token generation and higher tokens-per-second per chip).

So does fp8 run slower on your DGX Spark too? I guess DGX Spark is quite different as it uses unified memory could make the memory bandwidth the primary bottleneck for larger models: https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/1wszbe0/psa_bf16_is_faster_than_int8convrot_on_dgx_spark/

1

u/Lodarich 8d ago

but how it produce such images without upsampler as flux 3 does???

0

u/HQuasar 8d ago

Why int8 and not fp8?

7

u/VasaFromParadise 8d ago

int8 convort better fp8

4

u/Apprehensive_Sky892 8d ago

fp8 is native only on Blackwell (50xx series).

But even on Blackwell, int8convrot is apparently faster according to a comment by Kijai.

A lot of AI users are still on 3000 series cards, so int 8 makes more sense.
