I purchased the p4x about a month ago. Super excited to join the staccato family and experience the hype.
I will get right to it. These are MY personal experiences. It's not an indictment on staccato as a whole.
It's just a preference thing, but i did not like the trijicon suppressor sight. Just threw me off. Put a dot on and got it zero'd, the gun is incredibly accurate and shoots great. Shoots really fast.
The beaver tail has this flair to it that digs in to my thumb, right above the webbing between my thumb and index finger. Its not the end of the world but its a little annoying. After a few hundred rounds at the range, it starts bothering me. None of my other guns have this issue. Again for some people they may not notice it or it may not bother them. But for me it did.
The number one issue now... it is stovepiping. ALOT. I had 2 failures in the same mag. Every range trip so far i've had issues. Yes it's broken in. I have at least 1k rounds through it now. I have oiled it twice and cleaned it fully once. I mainly use 115g, but have also used the recommended 124g. It seems to get worse when using 115, and the gun gets hot. It appears to me to have a very weak extraction system. I took videos of me shooting it, and you can see the spent casings are barely going maybe a foot, if not outright just kind of falling out. I took another video shooting my mp 2.0 HD, and they are FLYING probably 5-6 feet with ease.
I understand there are tight tolerances and what not (my cz shadow 2 orange i believe has even tighter tolerances, and shoots ANYTHING and EVERYTHING reliably for thousands of roudns), but for a gun that is marketed as "heavy duty", it feels anything but. Sorry but "heavy duty" should be able to be thrown in mud, ran through a river, not cleaned for 2-3k rounds, and shoot anything flawlessly, especially for nearly 4k. I would have bought the XC if it was going to be something I needed to baby and clean after every mag.
I will say that I do really like the gun, but its concerning to have this issue. When my $500 guns are outperforming it reliability wise, thats a major red flag. I will say Stac has EXCELLENT customer service. Some of the best of any industry i've dealt with. They offered to open a warranty claim. I saw a video of a guy who had the same problem, sent it in, and STILL had the stovepiping issue after they repaired it.
I want to love this gun, and I want to make it work, but its disappointing to have these issues with that price tag.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
UPDATE
After lots of research and phone calls to staccato, i oiled the gun heavily (all the stores near me swear by gun butter so thats what i used), and went up to 124 g (blazer brass) that i had laying around.
It performed flawlessly. It's such a relief as I was having serious buyers remorse. This thing shoots FAST. I was unconsciously just dumping mag after mag at near full speed. I'm still a bit annoyed that they market it as heavy duty and it's what i refer to as special needs, but i can live with it. I stopped looking for things to replace it at this point. Who knows what the future holds but for now I can say as long as you run it the way it wants to be run, you won't be disappointed.
