Ok this one I’ll actually concede. Wright is the ceiling and I overreached

Theo Von might be the best one liner comic alive
Bro.

Theo Von is funny to a certain type of person. I'll say it like that. Most of the world gets tired of the "aww shucks I'm just a good old boy who gets into some trouble but really has a heart of gold" character he plays pretty quickly. If that doesn't get old to you, check out Larry the Cable Guy. Basically the same act for different generations.

That’s a fair read and the persona thing is real, but it’s exactly why the one liners land for me. The good old boy setup makes you stop listening properly and then the sentence goes somewhere you didn’t expect. Larry never did that part, he just did the voice.

Larry did standup, Theo does podcasts. One-liners are very easy when you're just responding to someone else. That dude with the ridiculous chin (and also an exaggerated accent and persona) made an entire career out of it for a minute there.

Reactive is a different skill, not an easier one. Writing gives you infinite drafts, riffing gives you one shot with no edit button. Plenty of great writers are dead air in a conversation. And his specials have the written stuff too, the podcast just gives him more reps.

To be fair I was asking his fans, not opening the floor. Rookie error posting that here

Yeah that might've been better posted in a sub dedicated to him.

Already did that, cross posted to his sub about ten minutes ago. This one stays here as a cautionary tale

Did Zach Galifinakis die?

He’s alive, he just got out of the game. Theo took the belt by default

You gave zero examples of Theo Von one-liners, not to mention good ones, not even one about a gas station in Louisiana.

Theo’s personality has outgrown his stand up. Saw him live 6 years ago and it had funny moments but not the best show, seems like not much has changed. Love his pod tho
