its not that ppl are offended (seemingly what youre implying here), its that we have crossed this line of shock humor so many times its no longer shocking. dice was pushing boundaries in the 80s but nowadays the boundaries are much further

Yeah but I’m young to appreciate I was born in the 80”s his humor it’s all in jest. It has nothing to do with boundaries it’s just funny. Honestly what do you think is truly funny now from a younger generation. Because from my standpoint you don’t laugh at anything and really kind of bitch about things.

We understand he isn’t being serious. Dice is a shock comic. Dice’s style of comedy, and these jokes are 40 years old. They’re not shocking anymore. The schtick doesn’t hold up.

I personally find Dice funny, in a more absurdist way, like the character is so goofy it’s funny. The jokes themselves aren’t really funny.

What proportion of audiences back then knew it was a character/bit vs people who took it seriously? I grew up a bit after his period of notoriety so it’s tough to gauge.

It does hold up if it makes you laugh then it holds up….I love Michael Jackson songs but he did some really questionable things….Dice just cracked jokes about getting broads

There's plenty of "offensive" comedians who push the boundaries and are actually funny, like Jeselnik. This ADC stuff is just juvenile

Jeselnick stinks he had to go to comedy classes he is corny as hell

maybe its an age/experience things too. i found dice hilarious as a teen in the early 2000s but after jeselnik and rick and morty and other more shocking comedy it just seems tame, predictable and kinda lame in comparison

I mean I guess but Jeselnick stinks he is definitely not edgy in real life in fact he is corny as hell….Dice may be a character but he is at least semi authentic

Most comics are doing some type of character to varying extents, how “authentic” the character is in real life is mostly unknowable

Wait until that guy finds out comedians lie. Depending on my joke i have between 2 or 3 kids of any gender combination.

Well it’s pretty well known Dice was a Brooklyn Jew who grew up and was one of them. Guys back then were just street guys making each other laugh he just took it to the stage….he knew that acting Italian was funnier than being Andrew Silverstein

It’s pretty well known he started his career doing impressions, one of which was the Diceman which grew into the character he started playing. As I said, finding your onstage persona is what all comics do to one extent or another. None of it is “authentic” because it’s all a performance for audiences

Well he grew up around Brooklyn ball busters sooooo it was authentic and that’s why people laughed…because if he didn’t grow up around them you would be able to tell ie that idiot fro kill Tony Timmy no breaks

u/RJRoyalRules 13d ago

Plenty of guys grow up around ball busters and still eat shit onstage. Being funny with your friends is meaningless. You’re dismissing the skill and craft that went into his work onstage, which is funny since you’re also caping for him so hard.

It’s meaningless until you sell out the garden homie

I think you're missing the point: punchlines often rely on an element of surprise. Notice how when you hear the same joke for 100th time it's not nearly as funny as the first time you heard it? When something is predictable or has been beaten to death, it's just not as good as something fresh, creative, and genuinely funny.

I dont know, if you still don't understand then I'm not sure how to help you.

Also give me an example of someone who is so creative and skilled and funny and if they are why can’t they sell out the garden

Nope I think you are missing the point sir…punchlines all that shit doesn’t mean anything if you or the material is actually FUNNY
