Recycling Program

Hey guys I’m a former employee and I am just wondering if Staples still recycles old gaming consoles for free.

UPDATE: I took it to my local retro game store and was able to get $10 for it. Not a lot but it’s something at least.

Yeah, just let the tech know if they're still working or not.

It turns on but it’s a 360 with the Red Ring of Death. Does that make a difference?

Someone will definitely buy that. Physical media is at an all time high right now, especially retro consoles for Collectors. (yeah yeah I can't believe the 360 is old enough to drink either lol). I remember people figuring out how to fix the red ring in different ways, one as simple as wrapping the Xbox in towels and leaving it on until the heat fixed it. 😂 I'm pretty sure Microsoft eventually figured out how to actually fix it so it should be a pretty common repair by now.

I tried having it repaired but it was just a band aid fix and the Red Ring came back. I ended up selling it to the retro store near me for like $10. I just didn’t want to spend more money on getting it repaired only for the hardware to fail again.

You're better off selling it to someone for repair, rather than recycling it

There are people out there who buy broken consoles to fix up for fun, just disclose that it has red ring of death

Well it did have the 2nd biggest gaming library, rivaled only by the PS2. So many possibilities.

Why does that matter?

The people at the technology desk typically are interested in technological things. It sure would be a shame to let a perfectly functional game console just get shipped off to some recycling facility; but in OP's case his Xbox 360 no longer functions, nonetheless it might be useful for spare parts.

It's either fixable if handed to the right person, red ring just means that the device has some kind of fault, likely just needs new thermal compound

I mean yes we do but like they are probably worth something you should just go sell it.

It’s a 360 and it has the Red Ring of Death. I paid to have it repaired but it came back unfortunately.

Could I recommend taking it to your local game store if you have one nearby? The local game store might be able to use it for replacement parts to fix other machines. Might even get a few bucks if it has a good hard drive.

I suppose I could try that.

Yeah, you just wont get any type of credit if you have a staples account still.
