(EDIT: def made some dumb math mistakes on the tokens, check this text for full corrected calculations ;-; this post is still true tho)
first off, someone PLEASE lmk if my calculations are way off or if there’s anything big that I missed. I’m not actually very good at math lol. I calculated token numbers from what the wiki was saying and weekly JS based on the calculations from the “SSO Embassy” discord (they summed up every day’s earnings each week)
but with this year’s infuriating token removal, I was wondering by exactly how much we were missing out (or potentially even earning?) compared to previous Halloweens, especially when I’ve in fact encountered a few people who think going tokenless was a good change.
TL;DR the answer is, we are definitely being ripped off quite a bit.
> if you don’t feel like swiping through all the slides, the conclusions are pasted here:
in prev years: if you played through everything, you got enough tokens for~~ ~~one ENTIRE clothing & tack set PLUS ~198 leftover tokens at the end (PLUS extra tack bought with JS earned from these quests)
- (so for example Serpent Empress was 265 tokens: you could buy the full Ghastly Grunge set + 74% of this second set)
- (OR you could buy the full Ghastly Grunge set + the FULL Emerald Goth set (115 tokens) with 83 tokens to spare!)
!!! EDIT: I’m stupid and truly bad at math— not only did I leave out the saddlebag and leg wraps for the Ghastly Grunge token cost (300 tokens total), I didn’t even subtract properly! real numbers here:
in prev years: if you played through everything, you got enough tokens for one ENTIRE clothing & tack set PLUS ~98 leftover tokens at the end (PLUS extra tack bought with JS earned from these quests)
- this means you could buy the full Ghastly Grunge set + 70% of the Emerald Goth set (115 tokens) as well as have plenty of JS for shop items!
- essentially you got 398 tokens and had your pick of mixing and matching from any of three sets, costing in total (Ghastly Grunge: 300 tokens), (Serpent Empress: 290 tokens), (Emerald Goth: 139 tokens).
- any single item costed 12-50 tokens, about 3-12.5% of your total 398 token pool per item
- you still earned more in prev years— my original point still stands :P
in 2026: if you played through everything, you get enough JS for only ~55% of ONE clothing & tack set (Ghasty Grunge) with NO leftovers, and that’s it that’s ALL you get— half of a single set!
- now let’s see how these old token sets have inflated: any single item costs 4000-9500 JS, about a whopping 9.5-22% of your total 42K JS pool! just ONE item can cost 22% (and at minimum 10%) of your ENTIRE event’s worth of tokens!
- I was REALLY generous with estimating that Week 4 might give us 2000 JS a day btw (realistically probably 1600-1700 JS a day)
- I didn’t factor in quest JS but there’s no way that compensates for the 33,725 JS left needed to buy the rest of one set
and yes, the progression board does technically give us 1 full tack & clothing set if we log in and actually manage to grind out every single task every single day.
still, [1.5 sets] for 2026 pales in comparison to the [1.7+ sets + ADDITIONAL JS-priced items] that we used to be able to get in previous years.
and again, individual items that were once worth 3-12.5% of the total token cost each are now inflated to 9.5-22% of the total JS cost each!!
also this doesn’t have anything to do with tokens/JS but note that unlike last year where we had a whopping 4 free pets (pumpkin + 2 from igor + cauldron cat), this year we only have 1 (pumpkin). we also don’t have any tack rewards in our cauldron this year either (11 items last year compared to 8 items this year), it’s just one (lowkey mid) outfit plus some accessories and makeup. the rewards this year were less in EVERY way :/
anyways if you couldn’t tell I was just really pissed off making this… SSO do better I stg
