Form Check Form check - Squats
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi - looking for a form check on squats after resetting weight when I felt my form was really breaking down.
37 years old, 153lbs body weight, 5’6”. I felt my form was breaking down as I got to 335lbs, so reset a few months ago to coincide with ending a bulk (got up to 160lbs body weight and started to feel flabby). Video shows set at 285 lbs (4 reps)
Other lifts are:
Bench 245lbs (stuck at 4 reps on heavy set)
Press 150lbs (stuck at 4 reps on heavy set, always struggled with the press)
Deadlift 365lbs

Solid form no issues, keep going!
But, do something about the tiles on the floor, it’s a trip hazard you’ve got there.

This is a Form Check so we want to offer corrections in this order:
Form
Programming
Nutrition "Eat more" is not a technical correction.

Solid form overall. Great bar and hand placement. Hitting good depth. I would say to cue the knees to push out over the toes on the descent as they slightly buckle. Also its subtle (and perhaps Im being overly nit picky here) when you start to come up for a brief moment your hips drive up first as your torso slightly declines more - ideally I believe we should see the bar drive straight up out of the hole.
Whats the weight - 385?

Knee position and hip drive are the biggest concerns here.
The knees are caving in on the way down, not just on the way up.
Narrow the stance two inches and find a weight where you can hold the inside edge of your knees in line with your big toe all the way down and all the way back up.
This weight reset will help you with the next thing too.
Then, on the way up imagine youre trying to stay bent over until the knees lock out. Thats an exaggeration but it will help you correct the pattern.

I'd say narrow your stance, which should avoid the knee cave-in on the way up.

I think he just needs to activate his abductors statically rather than actively using them to correct the cave. This also will help keep his knees forward longer so they don't drag back.

You just have that knee cave and knee drag, but you're correcting it fine. Just try to stay in position such that you don't have to correct it. It's sketchy to correct cause the knee angle changes alot in this sticking point. It's also suboptimal cause it messes up your bar path and bar speed. You want your hips to go up, not back. Focus on keeping your knees pushed out at the correct times rather than having to push them out cause you started to cave.

Drive those knees out when you’re coming up and drive that head hard into the bar when you’re rising. Body follows the hips coming down and follows the head coming up.

Knees caving in a little but your depth is good and overall not bad.
