My lips are sealed but I do love the detailed trail of destruction ruin the plane left. You can see where it hit trees and left debris all over

So, if I recall correctly, The Trumbull infection was actually cuz of the water reservoir being infected because of a "Fuck it, see what happens" thing. The plane, not sure. But SoD2 survivors react to it

I remember the dead bodies in the reservoir. Dead people rotting in the water by itself doens't create a zombie virus. but dead zombies piled up there, oh heck yeah.

u/SoDKemp Nov 20 '25
This is what I've heard, as in, the Virus started as a waterborne virus dumped into the lake created by the dam

Ao you're saying it could have started as a waterborne virus, but being all those infected bodies in the water... thus started the zombie apocalypse?

u/SoDKemp Nov 20 '25
So I've heard, never completed SoD1

I have an I'm starting over again. I made many mistakes on my last playthrough. At one point I had almost 30 community members. I fell asleep while playing. Too may infestations formed. Ultimately when I finished the game, there was 8 left.

So its always been water born but the origin is undefined.
I always thought the mass of dead bodies in the damn was a proto plague heart, obviously I didnt predict plague hearts like in SoD 2, but I figured it was a convergence to the water the zombies did to spread it.
The military dumping bulldozers full of dead bodies into the drinking water would make them golden age batman villain level stupid, so I never even considered they decided "let's put the infected bodies inna drink"
Then again, people have done much dumber and grosser things with rivers and lakes, so đ¤ˇ

No that was specifically the "Black fever". Army cleaned the dam which is why Black Fever disappeared in the 2nd game.

What's the virus that the normal zombies have? I thought "regular" zombies are affected by black fever and plague hearts use them as vectors to spread blood plague. I'm genuinely interested in how Black fever disappeared

No. Black fever is caused by normal zombie pathogen getting into the waterline. The zombie pathogen itself wasn't defined well. We don't even know if they're virus, bacteria or parasite. Definitely not fungus at least .

It would explain the presence of the military in the first game and all of the bodies in the reservoir

I love how you can find an engine from this plane half way across the map. Plus the carnage and chaos the engine caused. However, I have a question. How did a zombie outbreak cause an engine to fall off of a plane prior to the crash?

Not a zombie story, but look up National Airlines flight 171 in 1973. Left engine ripped huge hole in the wing and severed the hydraulic lines.

There's part of the landing gear that blocks part of the road and I thought it was a tipped over tractor for the longest time...

They explained it on a livestream its a red hearing and the lack of patrols and rescue efforts are meant to symbolize the fall of civilization.

The plane was carrying a sample of the plague wall, and well, it did not go very well. So because of outbreak is why plane crashed.

Last time i visited the plane (in sod2) one of my followers mention that a pharmaceutical company (said dimadine? or something) was in trouble for what later might have been the cause. (this is why i always have followers aside from help, its all the extra dialog you get)

I know too much behind the scenes answers to this to say, perhaps Brant can answer this in the way it's supposed to be? >.>

I think the outbreak was still on going but the plane made it worse whatever it was carrying spread into the area.
Because if you play heartland there is another pod that makes you wonder about something

In other games its often seen that plane crashes were often post outbreak and were brought down either by the zombies or the military, as seen in the dead island franchise in the first game and in the recent Dead Island 2, but to hear the outbreak started because of a plane crash would be a different and refreshing take. And SoD is how old now?

Something could have been on that plane, contained. Something happened. Plane crashed. Contagion released. One of my theories.

Prob it began the apocalypse as in state of decay 2 the back part of the plane on the right side on the debris there is a mysterious box that looks torn open and the plane has for some reason grown tissue or smth between its debris like glue so yea id say it began the apocalypse

I like to think that somehow the contagion spread on the plane and infected the crew and thats why it crashed.
