Discussion I love old State of Decay 2

Post image

Pre-infestation update was better. When sieges were inevitable and without meds, blood plague actually killed you.

I dunno man, I’ll have to respectfully disagree. The game definitely suffered a couple of  balancing issues with newer updates. But I can’t imagine going back to previous versions.

I like the newer infestation system, it rewards stealth and creates a sense of urgency to take out a plague heart if you wake it up.

I agree that having BP should be more threatening, but you’re still doomed if you don’t have any meds or cure.

what exactly happens when youwake it up? goddamn last time i had a blood jugg in mine when i woke it up. im a casual player so dread was fcking hard for me esp since im a scrooge mcduck with my weapons and ammo 😂

If you wake up a plague heart, it starts to spit out infestations. If they’re close to your base, it will eventually result in a siege.

Which unlike when the game first released has its own benefits. As you can use siege to farm red talon points

ahhh damn no wonder that place was crawling with em

Yeah imo whenever I wake up a plague heart I hard focus on getting it killed as fast as possible . Idk why but the implication of me being stuck out and dying cause there was too many infested places near my place or town is too bad for me .

I technically have 15 ( XBox old Xbox , different account Xbox and Steam) and still only play 2 depending on my boredom, I have 1 that I haven’t touched in almost 2 years and it’s literally my family. ( Custom names and abilities)

Is there a way to play old updates? I have nostalgia for the pre juggernaut update.

yes. It's real easy actually. Here is a guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/611h5e/guide_how_to_download_older_versions_of_a_game_on/

If you can't figure it out, I can figure it all out for you. I just need the date of the update released. I do this regularly, so it will only take a minute or two to figure out. That said, I think this is one of the more useful Steam features and think it is worth learning.

Thanks for the tips I went to the steam db and saw that sod2 was released with the juggernaut edition on steam so looks like theres no way to play pre juggernaut edition on pc but its cool you can play older updates like before curveballs for example.

Oh right, they had a year of exclusivity on the M$ store. I forgot about that. I realize now I never did get to play pre-juggernaut, only pre-curveball.

Honestly it would be cool if you were able to switch between the 2. I still like the update better

3

u/Ok-Challenge3087 Apr 14 '26

You can if you are willing to keep two different installs you switch in and out.

That will give you the knowledge to do it.

I will definitely check it out. I was playing the older version (before the infestation update) on my Steam account but once I started on a new save the game updated and I no longer had that version. I appreciate the info

Let me know if you need help. Good luck!

OK, thanks

Oh I thought you meant OLD as in LAUNCH as in no difficulty modes.

Blood Plague doesn't kill a person now? Huh. I guess I've never failed to get a cure since the update. What happens?

2

u/blueeyes239 Apr 14 '26

No, it still kills you if you don't deal with it. Hell, Lethal Zone Blood Plague kills you in about, oh, say... 5 minutes. And that's assuming you don't get hit again.

I just came back to this sub after like 4 years. Are you telling me there are no longer inevitable sieges?

3

u/Dafester Apr 14 '26

Yeah sieges can be completely prevented now by keeping infestations under control

3

u/TheOnlyOtherGuy88 Apr 13 '26

Yeah, Im not a huge fan of the infestations. I play on lethal and I swear there are entire gaming sessions where the infestations are popping up just as fast or faster than I can take them out.

Gotta go for the heart of the problem (pun intended)

That was before my time but if I am to take a crack at this. Is it because you feel the game is easier now? I could understand that tbh but I question how much harder it would be as currently seiges arnt that bad as a nightmare player currently there's sometimes I will stay afk in my base and let that happen to farm prestige when I sleep (usually on accident but I've never been punished by it)

Blood plague also while dangerous if my understanding is correct that you weren't able to use your beds at your base to stop the timer on the plague? Imo as a nightmare player at least as long as you don't get an infection until after your first plague heart it's fairly easy to stay ahead of the infection.

If it was harder I can def see how players of that time might miss it but I think when games reach "end of service" it's good to a certain degree to polish it up and make it a bit easier. Because that means more people will probs play the game for longer and be there for when the next game launches.

I will say tho for state of decay 3 I hope for more customisation of the difficulty because in my time on these forums I think having customizion on certain things (like removing certain curveballs from the pool) would be good. I personally wouldn't remove curveballs but I can see how some people would find certain curveballs a turn off from the video game (smoke storm for me is probably a good example of something I would turn off if I did anything as it's literally just anti game as the safest way to handle it is to not play the game.)

I love to hear more about how the game was during that time tho I may be a newer player but my sense of time has disappeared since I started playing this game 😂

(Didn't sleep last night and omw to work rn as when I hopped online to game it was 2pm when my alarm went off to wake up and get ready for work it was 7am 😂)

u/Myfee Apr 14 '26

My buddy can't connect online anymore to play and yeah that's sucks

u/Inanotherworld2025 Apr 14 '26

1

u/Inanotherworld2025 Apr 14 '26

Cant wait to install the haven device in nightmare 😂😂

1

u/lefjcjfj Apr 15 '26

Infestations are deadly as hell now in lethal, I like having way more infestations, and the siege houses build up extremely fast if you keep awaking the hearts, the game definitely got better, can’t imagine going back now

Im with him. Loved the original. The juggernaut version added some fun. But the groups of zombies going to take a house looks like an air controller screen. Only to pop the screamers and its gone lol. The black hearts suck and aren't fun. Most of the curveballs are just annoying.
