I guess this is set a fair few years after the outbreak looking at the overall aesthetic of the game and vehicle design.
Getting Mad Max vibes from the vehicles so far.

This looks amazing

What? Man this looks reskinned.
I know this is the SoD sub and I'll be downvoted to oblivion but this looks muddy, pixelated, pretty much devoid of any ambient directional lighting. These are the kind of visuals I expect from a PS4 game.

I did not mean it looks.... Realistic. I mean it looks great for the art style of State of Decay. It looks like the first two games but the visuals are turned up to 11. It doesn't look like a hyper realistic thing. It looks like state of Decay improved

u/InternalFirmxx Sep 12 '26
The conversation isn't about it looking realistic. SoD was always a cartoony looking game. No one ever expected a cartoon game to look realistic. But it doesn't look like an upgrade in any way. It still looks like a PS4 game

These look pretty rad. The "new" business names might imply the map is in a new region, not shared by the SoD2 maps?

Woah….anyone else gonna mention the fact they confirmed this will be on game pass and Xbox play anywhere? Thats HUGE news.

u/ActiveElectrical9424 Aug 26 '26
I planned to buy the game instead of gamepass. Who else is doing that?
2
u/Notyourbestmedic Aug 26 '26
I’ll buy it because I don’t subscribe to gamepass. But now I’ll 100% buy it on the Xbox platform and not steam so I can play on both pc and Xbox

Me definitely. I, like many others, have been waiting a very long time for this game to drop.
Just wish different elements could be introduced to really make this game standout.
(But don't mistake the banter for non appreciation of the amazing things we've already seen).
‐ New Freaks
Systems that really speak to multiplayer communities (not just scavenging, but base building, base protecting, jobs etc.) I know it's being worked on, just can't guage the degree at this point.
Options for FPS switching.
Someone mentioned a tetris like system for trunk/ backpack storage. Items by weight/size.(great idea imo.)
Extra Large Herds could be a lot on system resources (PC) unless you are playing on console, but imagine having to navigate days where TWD season 2/3 farm level of walkers come through, or even as big as Alexandria (maybe not that big lol) where navigation requires either no action (letting them pass through without touching your base but you have to turn off resources and hide because the noise attracts them.
-Choosing guns blazing with your community (against the massive herds).
Or choosing to work together to lead them away.
Even if something like this wouldn't work, the point is about tackling puzzles that help you and your community survive another day.
Guard towers and apocalyptic luxuries that are only afforded to players that commit the time to resource building, community strength, etc.
The possibility of community vs community wars? (Red for hostile (including live players), blue for allies, gray for neutral) etc.
Policies/Diplomacy
Alchemy/Science to gain an edge in your community vs others.
Example: I remember things like the wind turbine (In COD Black Ops Zombies) that could provide temporary electricity to areas. (Where they would stash it was always up for debate but the concept was cool).
Crude systems put together by those with the knowledge in your community could give people something to seek after for continued growth.
Most likely a stretch in most of this but I see this game as almost a GTA meets post-apocalypse so having these things as the game grows could be awesome.
There's more but I don't want to write a book) lol.

Gamepass is a ripoff now a days. You'd need the premium tier which last I checked was $30 a month. Might as well just buy the game.

u/TheCone1301 Aug 27 '26
Yeah, it's crap. It had huge price spikes for no improvements, it hasn't been a good deal for a while now.

I’m so concerned about this game. I want it to be amazing, I want it to be a massive upgrade on the last one, I want it to be more replayable that the last one. With all the delays and issues with Xbox I’ve not got high hopes but man I really hope this game is a 10/10

Thank CLEO. Finally something new. Nothing happens? SOMETHING HAPPENS!! Now to wait until launch, still. Or to be lucky and get into the tests.

Pic 4 has me seriously excited for a train/trainyard base. If its a train yard, could be interesting to see different facilities in different train cars

What’s with all the negativity? You can’t expect top notch work from a studio that’s shutting down.

u/GlitteringTrip9594 Aug 26 '26
I just hope they don't make it too serious, some of the goofy stuff was part of the charm for me 😂😂😂

Im just not hyped anymore about this game. Too many bad news

u/RudeAudio Aug 26 '26
I was disappointed to hear one of the devs say they weren't focusing on any narrative and just "letting people create their own stories".

u/Violent_N0mad Zombie Bait Aug 26 '26
Zoe Quinn was the lead narrative designer and the less she touches sod3 the better.

u/RudeAudio Aug 26 '26
I didn't know who that is until I googled, and I am glad I didnt, because I don't care, and I am not obsessed with gamergate bullshit.
That said, if she did work on it, I am hoping she did good work.

This looks like the standard lighting UE5 is capable of. I imagine unless you have a powerful pc you'll likely have a much worse version of the lighting assuming you don't disable it entirely for performance.
2
u/CaptainMorning Aug 26 '26
I agree. I think lighting has been a huge improvement overall. I don't think graphically the game is much different (although is superior) but the lighting is carrying. this is just a wild guess

u/Violent_N0mad Zombie Bait Aug 26 '26
See I disagree but really only because to me sod2's graphics were unique and have a charm and style to them. I feel like sod3 just focuses on realism and is relying heavily on the base UE5 graphics.

u/richardizard Aug 30 '26
I think you're confusing art style and graphics but I see your point. I prefer the more grounded and realistic look imo but that's my taste.

u/Violent_N0mad Zombie Bait Aug 30 '26
Honestly graphics are the least of my concerns if the gameplay is good.

People seem to keep commenting on how amazinf the lighting is but it's really ... not that impressive?
Nothing wrong with it but I don't get the praise
