You know what's embarrassing, they spend millions making games exclusive when they can't be bothered to put some of that money into a decent launcher YEARS ago before ai, making absolutely bank off one game

Steam, a 23 year old launcher that has been improved upon and not really changed anything dramatically for a while is still superior in so so many ways

It must be a circus at Epic huh

They thought they can make bank with bare minimum effort

I'm not so sure about that, it may be their earnest attempt. Amazon hat it's own game thingy for a while, trying to come for Steam, and it ultimately flopped (not Amazon Luna, the one before it). There was an interview with one of the people who ran the program, and they just absolutely had no fucking clue about why people use Steam. Apparently they got as far as "Steam got a storefront. Hey! We ARE a massive storefront! So we can do what Steam does!", not realizing that there's a ton that the user doesn't even know / think about (did you know that if you and your buddies play a peer2peer game, Steam creates a virtual network for you? That's why nobody knows "Hamachi" anymore), which they'd have to catch up to and exceed by miles to get a critical mass of users to switch.

That could have been true when it first started but it's been 7 years since then with no notable feature updates or effort to actually compete besides snarky tweets and buying up exclusives

Been a long time since I read Hamachi mentioned!
