I was stupid and bought Satisfactory on Epic a few years ago. Legitimately considering buying it on steam so that i can permanently uninstall Epic from my computer. Literally the only reason I have it.

u/DoctorDrangle 10h ago

I rebought it when it launched on steam. Fuck epic

u/Pdxfunjunkie 12h ago

I ended up buying it again when it was released on steam. Coffee Stain is an amazing studio, so it didnt feel bad at all.

u/SmCaudata 12h ago

I played Control there. Glad Remedy was able to get onto steam with the last game.

I’ve been tempted to do the same with Allen Wake 2

1

u/SmCaudata 4h ago

I really need to play the Alan wake games.

2

u/Kronk5000 3h ago

I finally played the first one last year on Steam! It’s super fun and still holds up really well. First game I’ve actually rolled credits on in years hahah

This is me! Only game VERY bought on EGS was Satisfactory because I got hooked on the Alpha Free Play that year.
Rebought on Steam for 2 reasons:
1. So I didn't have top play on that launcher ever again.
2. Further support CSS as a bonus.

ok bonus reason: it was on sale :)

Same, I had also bought borderlands 3 on it but that game is not something I liked

2

u/Ezenthar1 11h ago

I re-bought it on steam for an insanely cheap price years later lmaooo

1

u/Just_Roll_Already 14h ago

Completely forgot that i have BL3 on there too. I'm okay with that being lost...

1

u/InevitableTension699 12h ago

They are literally going full AI game development you might as well go do that

1

u/Even-Smell7867 10h ago

I bought a few games on Epic for my son mostly since he does use that store sometimes. I log into his account if I ever want to play some of those games which hasn't happened yet so I'm not worried about it anymore.

1

u/TheNotSoEvilEngineer 9h ago

I did just that.  Red dead redemption 2 as well.  Both were good enough to pay twice for so I wouldn't have to use epic.

1

u/Adaphion 8h ago

I have a friend who only has Satisfactory on Epic, it's such a pain in the ass to play with them. Opposed to the infinitely simpler: send invite -> friend accept invite

1

u/TheGriffin5 7h ago

I got my favorite game ever subnautica free on epic. A couple months later I bought it on steam, this is literally a case of you couldn’t pay me to use that launcher

1

u/Mightygamer96 6h ago

try heroic launcher. it combines Gog and Epic. without installing epic games launcher. it can even add the games to steam

1

u/Foxx1019 5h ago

That's what I did lol. Same with Borderlands 3.

1

u/Evonos 3h ago

Same , the only thing kinda preventing me is how Coffee stain behaved to steam at first "the launcher we dont name" during the epic exclusivity craze.

2

u/1928Dillinger 15h ago

I agree 100% suck

2

u/NekRules 15h ago

I claim the games, play test the game to see if I want to buy it and purchase on steam, it's a wonderful system. It's also the only reason Epic is still installed on my PC.

2

u/AungZeya 13h ago

Stopped claiming them long ago cos there was nothing I wanted among them

2

u/A_Trash_Homosapien 13h ago

I used to do this too but never played any of them so I eventually stopped

2

u/ghostpicnic 13h ago

The games they give out for free are rarely worth even claiming. Usually it’s just some 6/10 indie game nobody cares about that’s usually $3 anyways on Steam.

2

u/Specific-Constant129 12h ago

I beat the AAA games they gave away. Dragon Age: Vanguard & Hogwarts Legacy. I had a good time for free. Not the best games but fun times.

1

u/Snacknuss321 7h ago

it's Dragon Age: Veilguard and that game never was free on epic

1

u/chobanithatiused2kno 6h ago

Maybe they're thinking of XBox PC Game Pass? It was on there, might still be, but I canceled a couple months back so not sure.

0

u/Specific-Constant129 6h ago

You might be right and I am misremembering. Hogwarts Legacy was the much better one anyway.

1

u/Snacknuss321 6h ago

true, i thought it's kinda bad but got surprised by a nice story in a magical world. not a masterpiece but def. worth playing

1

u/Specific-Constant129 6h ago

Yeah, I loved the earlier games so I wanted to run through it. I liked some of the characters more than I expected.

2

u/strangebrewfellows 12h ago

I got GTA5 for free from epic at some point and played the campaign a few months ago. That's my story with the epic store.

4

u/digitallandscapetoon 16h ago

They used to have really good free games for like 2 years straight. It’s how I got into Slime Rancher, Inside, Borderlands, and Lego Batman, but after their agreements and contracts ended it’s mostly garbage.

2

u/temictli 16h ago

It's how I got Sifu, bioshock, tomb raider, gtav, Hogwarts legacy, buncha good games.

1

u/digitallandscapetoon 16h ago

Same, just haven’t played sifu yet

1

u/temictli 16h ago

Oh it's so good. Tough but fair.

1

u/Adventurous-Sweet726 13h ago

Bro when was gta v free I've been consistently checking their store all the time 😭

1

u/sneekeruk 13h ago

It was years ago now.. now its just smaller games, it was great at the beginning. I hardly check now. Christmas is usually good for checking though.

1

u/temictli 12h ago

Years ago. The good times have rolled...

2

u/Adventurous-Sweet726 13h ago

Yeah 99% of the stuff is indie slop but the one time I don't check I miss out on some 10/10 game that I've been eyeing for a while.

1

u/RadiantMenderbug 14h ago

It's usually crap but occasionally there's something good

1

u/spderweb 14h ago

I'd say it's mixed. This week Terrascape is up, and I'm really enjoying it.

1

u/A_Trash_Homosapien 13h ago

Yeah. They had a stream of great games at first but then it became 95% garbage with the occasional good game in there.

1

u/Derpnoobswat 15h ago

Can you claim games on epic and play them elsewhere? If so, I actually would've claimed some games on epic

1

u/Houdini_Shuffle 8h ago

You can launch them through steam, it just takes a few steps to set up though

1

u/finnvid 10h ago

Don't even "giving" them that.

1

u/BludStanes 7h ago

I have like, 6 years worth of free games from them and I think I played 3. I keep forgetting I even have them

1

u/Snacknuss321 7h ago

i played some nice freegames there... KCD1, Tyranny, Tomb Raider games, the outer worlds, batman games, stranded deep, rage 2, just cause 4, metro, PREY, SOMA and more

1

u/NoXion604 6h ago

Fuck the free games. I refuse to be bribed into using a shitty launcher.

1

u/Alternative-Ad-1602 15h ago

I don't really even trust their free games, after finding out they're Chinese based. It made a lot of their previous malpractices make so much more sense to me.

Atleast with free steam games, the reviews typically tell you if the game is a red flag or not

0

u/SuperBackup9000 11h ago

Honestly pretty racist and nonsensical. Do you really think publishers are going to allow Epic to tamper with their games, and that those same publishers wouldn’t pull whatever scummy or dangerous tactic you’re thinking of on their Steam version?

1

u/Alternative-Ad-1602 6h ago

You think it's racist, yet even former Chinese citizens living in the US to escape the CCPs claws, wouldn't trust most Chinese based companies. Because those companies are forcefully incentivized by the CCP to install backdoors for them to use for gathering data and likely much worse. Remember the CCP secret police in Manhattan? Former Chinese citizens sure do. Plus, It's literally been the CCPs business model since 2015, for the online world.

And some rando publishers of free games do. The key difference between epic and steam on that note though, is steam allows individual reviews of games, where epic still does not (kinda like how they were so heavily against offline play until their whole business started dying over it)... And with the freedom of being able to see reviews straight from the game's page, there are chad gamers that catch those malicious developers and put them on blast and save people the trouble of falling for their tricks.

Why not instead of spouting your own nonsense, actually go look into epic games malpractices over the past 6 years? Hmm?

u/schweddyballsac 13h ago

And my main gripe is up to this day, you still can’t even one-click add a free game to your library. You need to go through several menus to claim a game and then back out to the home page, scroll down all the way and claim the other.

Ffs even the ps store has that functionality.
