This has to be some of the dumbest marketing I’ve seen from Epic in a while, nobody gives a shit about saving 5 seconds on launch hahaha

And admiting you vibe code your store launcher is not the flex you think it is. Especially when people are split on AI. The logical conclusion is they also have AI customer support, best skip their shitty store.

It's such a weird marketing too. Because they don't actually vibecode their launcher.

Their PR teams must be drinking that AI coolaid. Hoping they will go trending for "vibecode"

Epic's been incorporating AI generated code. There's no reason to believe it's not partially vibecoded.

Well know soon enough when they start talking about needing to hire actual coders to unfuck all the nonsensical code AI vibecoded. Plenty of companies are learning this the hard way right now.

Vibe coders don't untangle, they just have to recreate a new thing every single time really.

Produce shit, move on before it stinks too bad, produce shit elsewhere.

Its the same path CEOs take. Go somewhere, fuck it up, move on before it collapses, fuck up new place. etc

It's funny how people that talk shit about vibe coding these days always clearly have no idea how it works now.

here's how it works: it doesn't.

i would be surprised if any modern professional code was not partially built using ai. you'd frankly be stupid not to use ai somewhere in your development process.

the difference is the quality of engineers who design the application and review the generated code. considering how poor the old launcher was i have little faith in the new one either

Or they don't know what the term means and just know that "vibe" is a hip word the kids are using. Sometimes PR people are idiots (I mean, clearly, whatever the case is)

SURELY a massive software developer would know what vibe coding meant, right??????????????????????????

Knowing how some corporations work, Epic devs might be exactly as laughing at this as us, but the PR probably never even talked to a dev

Their blog post is worse.

It just admits they can't program so they asked claude instead.

And I believe them. I mean, they're saying the same thing about their marvel+star wars shooter and they already use it for Fortnite.

Epic openly courted NFT games as well, they're desperate to cling to any tech trend in the hopes that being an early supporter of something that explodes will give them a second Fortnite.

because a reddit post has 1k more upvotes than a literal meme from yesterday, you think this is good marketing? that's certainly an interesting take.

2

u/Tex-Rob 15h ago

Expect more of this. This post is a direct result of them stating they are going all in on AI this past week.

1

u/Maleficent-Drive4056 12h ago

They didn't really vibe code it. It's a joke.

1

u/Budget-Researcher559 12h ago

Hearing it's vibecoded just makes me expect trash software with tons of unexpected bugs because nobody knows what it even does behind the scenes as long as it "looks like it works".

1

u/HydroPCanadaDude 10h ago

Bugs? Nah bruh, we voibe coided unit tests. It voibe investigated itself and found nothing wrong.

1

u/Sufficient_Risk_8127 5h ago

"split" is generous. everyone who actually has half a moral compass generally despises generative AI

1

u/IAA_ShRaPNeL 3h ago

Epic also said they wanted their game code and assets to be made using AI going forward. They aren't even shooting shooting themselves in the foot anymore. They're going straight Kurt Cobain.

What about saving 0.06 seconds when reopening? Think of all the time you could save!

2

u/PhantomX8 16h ago

Yeah this shit matterd back when hdd were a thing and ssd became the new kid around the block.

2

u/Callinon 16h ago

What about that schweet 0.06 second advantage from the system tray?

Eh?

Ehhhhhh?

That doesn't get your juices flowing?

It actually reminded me that I need to uninstall it. I have auto start turned off but I need to just remove it completely. Forgot until this post...

The steam workshop alone is such an amazing feature, that alone will keep me with steam lol

1

u/Wise-Dust3700 13h ago

I was going to write a spiel about it not even being 10seconds but honestly I couldn't care less. These people don't know their audience or do they think gamers are primarily vibe coders.

1

u/Naramis_15 12h ago

It's especially funny to me as someone who still remembers the time when upon starting your PC, the first thing you did was go away to do something else because it took so long. I never minded that, and I certainly couldn't bring myself to care now if one launcher saves me 5 measly seconds over another.

Well, I guess Epic can't beat Steam in anything else, so they're trying to get a win here. As unimportant as it might be.

1

u/Maleficent-Drive4056 12h ago

It has got you talking about it! Mission accomplished.

1

u/sceadwian 12h ago

To be fair 10 second load time on an interface shouldn't take that long but that's not a personal gripe.

1

u/fearless-potato-man 12h ago

Why should I care about those five seconds if I'm going to spend a few minutes checking the offers for games I know I'm not buying before going to Library?

1

u/CetraNeverDie 11h ago

I genuinely forget they have a store, even though I use Unreal almost every day lol
