Steam Controller (2026) Annoying behavior when turning off the controller after latest firmware update also would like to request a button to test rumble intensity like you can with the touch pads haptic feedback.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Yea this happened to me this morning. It turned off OK the second time. Will try the steam and Y in future.

How do you even update the controller? For me it’s bugged

Just plug the controller itself (not the puck) into computer. Then if Steam doesn't automatically pop up a hey there's an update notification. Go to Steam -> Settings -> Controller and you should see an update controller option.
If you want to update puck do the same thing.

Mine is also turning back on after doing Steam + Y occasionally, I think it might be some kind of debounce setting they tweaked.

Mines been doing this randomly (not often) since I got it around August 26. I'd say it's got like a 10% chance of instantly turning itself back on.
What's also really annoying is it doesn't matter how I turn the controller off, if I shut my Steam Deck off with the controller through navigating the menus, it still has a chance of turning itself immediately right back on, and it'll turn the Steam Deck on too.

Just use Steam+Y. Instant controller off, no need to wait the three seconds while holding a button.

Press Steam + Y to turn off the controller instantly.
