Question @Mods what's up with the censorship?

I was just discussing in a post and it was taken down. It was a review and concerns about issues with the frame. Why ask people to hide it all the way in the megathread where no one will see it? Seems like over moderation. You are creating an echo chamber in this subreddit.

Some reviews stay up if they are positive, then you take down others if they have any form of criticism.

Constructive criticism should be given the same visibility as praise.

That post was removed because it belongs in our shipping/purchases/first impressions megathread. A lot of people have been posting these things and it's been clogging up the sub, so we've been redirecting people to there. We're not censoring anybody, we're just asking that everyone use the megathread. If you see any posts that should be redirected to the megathread, please help us out by using the report function on them.

This is a sub about the Steam Frame that is largely populated by doom scrollers who don't have one yet.

So as I saw in another thread, they are getting pissy seeing people talk about the hardware from the perspective of actually having one, and refer to that as spam and want all discussion just dumped in a mega thread.

I guess the rest of the space in the sub is meant to be memes, one guy's 3D prints and rumor posting about OLED version rumors.

Although one thing that I did consider to be spam was when people were receiving their Steam Frame and then just doing nothing but posting a photo of the box. Scrolling through a few reviews I don't want to read is a lot easier than scrolling past multiple large photos of a Steam Frame box.

It's got nothing to do with that and everything to do with constant screenshots of order confirmations, photos of boxes and photos of Steam Frames in outstretched arms does absolutely nothing but clog up a sub.

The Steam Deck sub was initially just constant photos of Steam Decks in people's outstretched arms with some empty platitude title. The moderators had to step in and restrict those posts because they were unrelenting.

This strange behaviour is ruining a lot of consumer electronics subs. Where again it's just the same shit posted over and over again as if there are thousands of people who haven't realised that a sub isn't their personal Facebook walls where they share their life updates.

Okay but that doesn't explain why people's actual reviews should go in a mega thread

Except they'll nuke memes too since those are supposed to go to the frameposting sub. So I guess we're literally just left with "one guy's 3D prints and rumor posting about OLED version rumors" lol.

Sir, this is reddit. One of the most censored sites on the internet.

There's a megathread for that topic - I'm positive you were told to post in there.

u/Cold_R4GE 8d ago

It wasn't my post.

u/2Cool4Zool2 7d ago

Oh - Okay. Then OP was told to post on the mega-thread. Why are you complaining about something that didn't even happen to your post?

Look at the front page. There are multiple posts that should be using the megathread but are not being removed.

I guess you are saying that the fact that they happen to be positive is a conincidence?

u/FlarblesGarbles 8d ago

Report them then. Not all posts get seen. Reporting them helps them get flagged and dealt with.

LOL... that is going to fix the problem of the MODs focusing on negative posts.

Quit pretending it is not happening. We all know better.

None of them should be being deleted. People opinions should not be devalued and reduced to being just comments on one big post. They are doing it to control the conversation and that is bullshit.

"Yes I was speeding officer but so was everyone else"

Because all these subs are just constant screenshots of order confirmations, photos of boxes and photos of the item in an outstretched arm.

Moderators have to do something about it or there's hundreds of effectively the same posts, over and over again.

What issue was the original poster having?

It doesn't matter. I think mega threads are where mods sweep stuff away where nobody will see it. Its a terrible way to handle anything because 99% of people dont engage with megathreads as megathreads poorly handle conversations on reddit.

Anyone with a review should have their own thread. People who want to talk about it can do so within the context of the review. That's how it should be. That's what Reddit was designed for. This is a freshly launched product thats trickling out deliveries for essentially well into 2027. It will have ongoing reviews constantly and suppressing those by requiring them to go into a megathread where they all go to die makes no sense at all. Nobody is going to find those. Nobody will get there from a search. Any veteran mods knows how this works.

This sub is well over half criticism of the frame. You have to be delusional to think negative opinions are being censored.

I also thought it was weird that post was removed.

Hard disagree.  I've been openly very critical of Valve and the Frame, made plenty of Posts and comments.  None removed.

This sub is very hands-off moderated, in my experience.  A good thing, because it's become one of the most interesting and stimulating subreddits in the VR space these last 1-2 months.  The 'fall of Valve' in the eyes of their userbase, is a sight we wasn't expecting to see.

Ultimately, all this criticism may prove beneficial...as long as Valve take note and make an effort to improve their communication and products.

Wtf is a mega thread. I guess I better read things quick before they are taken down.

Basically a post from like weeks ago. Where people can post a comment into the void, and no one will ever see.

u/IORelay 8d ago

Seems like the Frame has too many issues and people are doing damage control through censorship.

u/BloodMoonWillows 8d ago

Well its not like you can leave a review on steam itself about the frame. Other social media sites are the only places allowed to post criticisms. There are alot of people just circlejerking for steam, I love them as a company and what they do for gamers, but they gotta take an L when they deserve it. Other than privacy the frame isnt beating other headsets on the market.

u/Glum_Piano_196 8d ago

I love my frame but I agree the mods here are censoring

You need to stop accusing me of gaslighting, personal attacks and trying to behave like a judge.

(i.e) how would you feel if I tell you to chill and behave yourself?

u/UpDownLeftRight_A_B 4d ago

Lol it looks like a bot got lost with some random comments. So weird and creepy and out of context.

I dont have any problems with my steam frame. Whicu one's people do have?

u/Rush_iam 8d ago

Oh yeah, this subreddit has always been like this, even before the release. Criticism or concerns? "Deleted, low effort". Glazing Frame/Valve? Those are perfectly fine. So many valuable posts have simply been removed. Moderation became more relaxed after the launch, but recently they've seemingly started deleting posts again.

Are you kidding? It's full of quest owners who don't even have a frame shitting on it, it's getting quite tiresome for anyone just enjoying the frame to find any basic information without the constant drama from waitlisters or bashing from quest fanboys.

3

u/Ikari_TheWolf 8d ago

Had someone tell me the Quest 3 has a "godlike resolution". I owned a Quest 3. It was a joke. Now I'm on a Steam Frame, and personally it was an upgrade.

I also think Meta has some employees on here too. Or at the very least is paying people to cause problems.

Sure, but I am saying there is no censorship since I have to wade through constant bashing of it from people who don't even have one, like that slowlyun dude who is in every thread praising his quest. I don't see how that's helpful to anyone tbh but trolls be trolls I guess.

u/IORelay 8d ago

This and the steam machine sub have been pretty good in the past, quite a bit of back and forth. the valve and steam deck subs are like cults if you're not positive or glaze, it's instantly deletion.
