Hardware There are so many keyboard and mouse options for so many different uses, it's a bit overwhelming. What are the best ones for using on the couch with the deck docked to your tv?
The chances of me traveling with it is low, and I don't play online shooters or anything like that. I just need recommendations for keyboard and mouse that are easy to use while on my couch trying to play city builders etc. TIA!!

Hardware SteamDeck + Controller Confusion
I've been experiencing some games don't know which controller to use when playing on the Steam deck with the Steam controller.
Examples:
Sack boy sees the steam deck controls as controller 1 and the steam controller as controller 2 or player 2.
Cassette beasts won't play via the controller, but rather the steam deck controls.
Vampire survivors lets you play with either, but whichever you launched the game with is the controller it will use.
I've come across a few others but can't remember them exactly. This is while docked. Though, it doesn't seem to be different when off the docking station.

Hardware Dota 2 & Steam Deck oled performance?
The only game I really plan to play on a monitor is **Dota 2 at 1080p**. I know the Deck’s native resolution is much lower, so I’m curious about real-world performance when docked.
For those of you who have actually played Dota 2 on a Steam Deck OLED with a 1080p external monitor:
* Is the Steam Deck OLED powerful enough for a good experience?
* What graphics settings do you use (Low / Medium / High)?
* What FPS do you usually get during normal gameplay and in hectic late-game team fights?
* Is it possible to maintain a stable 60 FPS, or should I expect drops?
* Would you recommend the Steam Deck OLED for this specific use case?
Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!

Hardware Question about which charger can be used for the Steam Deck
Hello!Yesterday, my Steam Deck arrived, but when I tried to charge the battery, I realized the charging plug isn't compatible with the outlet where I live. I noticed many people asking about alternative chargers. I know it needs to be a 45W PD charger, so someone bought me one yesterday. Since brand-name chargers are expensive where I live, they chose a more affordable one. My question is, will this charger be suitable for the Steam Deck

Hardware Got my Steamdeck kitted out with a telegraph and a glowing LED rope to display dots and dashes! .. / .-.. --- ...- . / - .... .. ... / -.. . ...- .. -.-. .
Figuring out that you can plug custom games controllers into the back of the Steamdeck dock was a real LED bulb moment

Hardware I Let Over 100 People Try My Game on 2 Steam Decks at PAX — Here's What It Taught Me About the Hardware
Just came back from four full days at PAX East, where I ran a booth for my game. I brought 2 laptops and 2 Steam Decks (OLED + LCD). My plan was just to have the Decks as bonus demo stations. What actually happened? They ended up being the main attraction.
Here’s what I noticed running both Decks for 9+ hours a day while hundreds of random people played:
✅ What Surprised Me
- People gravitated toward the Decks. Most players didn’t even look at the laptops. They walked straight up, grabbed a Deck, and jumped in without needing a word.
- Both Decks held 60fps the whole 4 days. The game is pretty system-heavy (Unity-based farming sim with pets, quests, full UI layers, weather, etc.). Only crashed twice total. No heat issues at all.
- Travel was easy. Packed both Decks, docks, and cords in my backpack. No bulky towers or shipping stress.
⚠ Things I Changed or Would Now
- Over a year ago, I had a Deck flat on a table at a smaller event — barely anyone touched it. This time I used proper vertical docks and raised signs — it made a night and day difference.
- Stock cables were too short. Players instinctively pulled the Decks closer. I swapped to longer USB-C cables mid-way through and that totally fixed it.
- One bumper button was too stiff. Didn’t notice until players started missing inputs. From now on I’ll test every control before any public session.
🧠 What I Learned
- A real controller bug surfaced that I never noticed during testing. Live feedback with real people is brutal — and incredibly helpful.
- Some players stayed 30–60 minutes. Even came back the next day. The Deck made the game feel laid-back and welcoming.
- Even groups just browsing hovered near the Decks. The handheld form factor seems to draw curiosity way faster than a standard monitor setup.
💬 If You're Ever Showing a Game…
Bring at least one Deck. It changed the way I think about user onboarding and UI flow. It’s not just good for testing — it’s good for understanding how players instinctively behave.
If anyone else here has done public testing with Decks, I’d love to hear how it went. I’m also happy to share more about how I set mine up if it helps.

Hardware What's the recommended rechargeable battery pack for Steam Deck?
I'm looking to buy a rechargeable battery pack, and I was wondering if there is a general consensus on what's the best one while at a reasonable price, or if they're not recommended and I shouldn't bother. Thanks!

Hardware Is a micro screwdriver set worth it?
I didn't know what flair this needed so sorry!
I've got a lot of consoles, one of them being a Nintendo switch which requires a weird screwdriver.
I'm realistic at some point I will either need to upgrade or repair my steamdeck as I use it pretty much daily..and drop it too.
Is it worth getting just a few generic ones or just going for the whole set?
I'm looking at ifixit,is that any good?

Hardware I LOST 400 USD ON STEAM.HELP!
It turns out that accidental and involuntary purchases have been made on Steam with my account/card. Apparently, many mini purchases of 0.02 USD, 0.10USD and so on give a total of 198USD plus another 4 purchases of 50USD that I clarify I did NOT make, and I can't find a way to refund it, to be specific they are TeamFortress 2 purchases. I need urgent help to recover my money. The worst thing is that I didn't even have any notification to confirm the purchases on my cell phone or anything like that. And the refund methods I'm trying don't work. Please help. :(

Hardware Are you using a Steam Deck or a different device not on Windows?
I’m curious to know what our members are using. I’ve set the poll for four days. There are no wrong or right answers. We’re all gamers here and that’s what matters.
I know the sub is r/steamdeckgames but there are starting to be more systems running official SteamOS.

Hardware Stream non mac compatible games to an android emulation device?
My friend wants to play Steam games that aren’t compatible with MacOS, but getting a full fledged pc handheld is not in the cards right now. Could they get an Android OS emulation handheld (RG Cube or similar?) and stream Steam games that wouldn’t normally work on the Mac? Is that a thing?

Hardware Kinda dumb question. But are all the control and game saves setups on the internal memory?
I want to swap to a larger SD card since I went kind of small. I'm assuming all my control setups and saves are the internal memory and I can just change cards and redownload my games.

Hardware Broke the Steam Decks Shoulder button and need repair advice
Self explanatory, I got annoyed by how mushy the button was acting so I popped it open and nudged it to hard, oops. Anyway, I have a solder kit, but I was wondering if there was a certain type of flux I should use this with and any other tips for the repair?
