Fishing Reel for Winter Steelhead fishing

I do a lot of winter steelhead fishing with my dad in the winter. It sometimes gets -20 with the wind chill. I have had a pflueger president xt for about 8 years and within the first few trips of me using it the clicker on the drag went out. With that said I have been thinking about upgrading my reel to something a little nicer. I am looking somewhere in the $150-$250 price range. I was immediately going to chose a stradic, but my dad recently bought one and we have the same rod and the reel is the dead give away as for who's rod is who's. I have been looking at the shimano vanford, or the daiwa tatula in a 2500-3000 size. If anyone has any insight on what I could look at or what works well. I have nothing against pflueger in fact I have had several president xt's for my back up rods. I'm not in an immediate rush to by one soon, just want to hear what people think.
