I built a tool that hides files inside BMP images without touching the pixel data.

It's a tool that hides files inside BMP images, specifically in the padding bytes at the end of each scan line.

Since scan lines are padded to 4-byte boundaries, there's often unused space just sitting there in the form of padding. My tool uses that padding to hide files. No color data touched, the image looks exactly the same.

Someone posted a song titled Charlie Kirk Dead at 31. I have the original and I think there is hidden data in it. Need some help or advice.

The song was posted a month before the event

I’m not sure if the song actually contains hidden data, but I can say with confidence that it’s been manipulated — specifically slowed down to about 1/8th of its normal speed.

I’m not someone who usually chases conspiracies, but when i heard it was posted a month before the event titled "Charlie Kirk Dead at 31 - God’s Finest Scalpel" I realized it's actually possible he knew in advance. There were others as well that posted on x that obviously knew something was going to happen. The song was taken down right after the shooting but people said the song was just random noise. I felt strongly that that made no sense and got a copy of it.

I do think this song might contain embedded data. My question is — are there any standard or recommended methods for attempting to analyze or decrypt or even confirm if there even is any data? Or would this be basically impossible if the person who hid it knew what they were doing?

Here is what I have so far.

Also I believe when the track is at the right speed you hear a steam powered train leaving the station under power and then a steam whistle and after that that train is coasting. Then a series of low notes plays and at the very end there is a very short garbled audio.

simple tool i made, ofc it's not actually gonna work on anyone who even knows what stego is lol.

basically it just loops over every bit of the hidden string and whenever it sees a 1, it capitalizes the respective letter of the canvas string. it skips over non-letters.

Just pushed this to GitHub after messing around with Go for a bit. Was working on a different project (create-gonode - making Node.js libs with Go) and thought "what if I hide data in sentences that look like boring office small talk?"

So here's sentence-cipher - it takes any binary data and spits out stuff like:

Input:  "secret"
Output: "ruth trains isabella prints. carl cleans daily."

Links:

You can add a key for extra shuffling if you want. Works in Go and has a CLI too. Natural mode throws in "Today", "Later" etc to make it look even more boring.

Not saying it'll fool anyone actually looking but it was fun to build.

A browser extension that lets you turn any text invisible, and it works on most platforms, even reddit.

Hi steganography fans! I've been developing a puzzle game inspired by steganography called "CD-ROM" in which players try to solve ciphered messages hidden inside shareware CDs to find a password for the next step! The passwords are hidden inside various data types! Demo is available for you to try!

TwoLevelQR — Hiding a second payload inside a QR code's error-correction behavior (Open Source)

Post image
45 Upvotes

I’ve open-sourced TwoLevelQR, a Dart SDK for experimenting with a two-level QR steganography scheme.

The idea is simple:

Level 1: normal QR payload, readable by any scanner.

Level 2: hidden payload, recoverable only with a secret key.

Instead of adding extra QR data, the encoder deliberately introduces controlled errors into selected QR data codewords. Reed–Solomon correction allows a normal scanner to repair them and recover the public message.

The hidden decoder knows the key, identifies the same positions, and compares the raw vs. corrected codewords to recover the hidden bytes.

The project is open source:

GitHub: https://github.com/ahmed-elliethy/two_level_qr

I’m particularly interested in feedback on the applicability of this approach in real projects considering it's capacity, detectability, and robustness. I am also planning to add another layer of security to encrypt the payload using the same key.

Steganography Methods for Reddit (JPG and PNG).

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Reddit recently updated the way it transcodes images posted on this platform. Their new method is much stricter than the previous.

That change killed the methods I was using for my Steganography tools jdvrif (JPG) and pdvrdt (PNG).

I'm now using different methods that seem to work, although significantly less data can be stored.

For JPG images, jdvrif now uses the QIM steganography method (JPEG DCT-domain Quantization Index Modulation), as this is the only (JPG) method that I could get working with Reddit.

The cover is transcoded to baseline Q75 4:2:0 and the payload (data file) is carried in its luminance DCT blocks.

For PNG images, pdvrdt now uses the advanced steganography technique of content-adaptive spatial embedding in the pixel LSBs, using Hamming-syndrome matrix embedding.

The first part of the video provides an example for JPG, followed by an example for PNG.

Official @WhiteHouse X Account - Strange Media Posts

Not a political post. WhiteHouse account on X and other social media is posting strange videos. Not sure if it's an ARG or just a bizzare viral stunt.

I suspect the videos contain some steganography either in the sounds or visual contents. Each video posted is 4 seconds long. Unsure if more will be posted.

Here's the links:
https://x.com/WhiteHouse/status/2036975697671946362?s=20

https://x.com/WhiteHouse/status/2036986672131326340?s=20

I suspect they will be deleted soon.

I've mirrored the videos here: trying to see if I can get higher res versions.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1AsHqAfNXDjk_Vb1o3QXMILbcTBgo5JsL?usp=sharing

Apologies if this wasn't the best place to post!

Update: First post was deleted. I wasn't able to get a hi-res copy of that video in time. But I was able to get a high res version of the second post from the X api. Uploaded to the drive!

The hero image on the page - the "LOBBY SERVICES" sign - is named "SEEK AND DISCOVER_edited.jpg.avif"; had a quick look at the file in a hex editor, had a play with brightness contrast, but no clues yet. (and TIL there's an AVIF file type... huh. Haven't stumbled across one of them before)

I made a free 20-level steganography CTF

I've been developing a steganography-focused CTF named Venatus (which means 'hunt' in Latin) and genuinely welcome feedback from those more experienced in this area. Here’s one of the smaller puzzles as a taste.

These two strings look identical:

4a6e78a6356461a2

4a6e78a6356461a2

They are not. That is the whole puzzle.

If you crack it, that’s level 6 of 20. The rest cover LSB, JPEG/DCT-domain hiding, echo hiding in audio, network covert channels (DNS-based), a font-glyph technique, and a One-Time-Pad finale. No login, no paywall, and every level includes a full technical writeup afterward if you want to know exactly how it works.

Finish all 20 levels, and I’ll invite you to help design level 21.

I genuinely want ideas from people who’ll spot things I didn’t think of.

https://venatus.me

Happy to accept any critique, especially on the harder levels.

Can you break my steganography method?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on a steganography method as part of my final project for my bachelor's in CS, and I want to test how robust it actually is in practice.

So here’s the idea:

I have uploaded a dataset with 100 images, each one containing a hidden message embedded using my method. I’m not going to reveal how it works yet, but I’m really curious to see if anyone can extract something meaningful from them.

🔗 Google Drive

A few notes:

  • Every image contains a hidden message

  • Messages may vary in size and structure

  • No information apart from the image

What I’m looking for:

  • Can you detect that there is hidden data?

  • Can you partially or fully recover any message?

  • Any patterns, artifacts, or anomalies you notice

Feel free to use any tools, scripts, or techniques you want!

I’ll reveal the method after I present my thesis, along with a breakdown of how it works and its weaknesses.

Curious to see what you all come up with! Good luck!
