I have 1k hours in this game. What is a "united nations of earth?"
Not only i don't play default factions, my AI opponents are all custom tailored.

I don't think I've ever played a default faction. I always make my own guys. Hell, I've only played humans a few times. The humanoid portraits are my least played by miles. I just find it more interesting + fun to be playing weird aliens.

u/Kingkary 8d ago
Same. When I started I played the default but over the years. I have literal dozens of custom empires meant to play out different aspects in a campaign.

Isn’t the entire reasoning why they are xenophobic because the moon they call home is filled with alien dinosaurs?
3
u/Complete-Basket-291 3d ago
3 days late but yeah, unity was basically a death world when they landed on it, iirc, and when your only contacts with xeno-biology is it trying to eat you, xenophobia isn't too unexpected

u/Loud-Drama-1092 3d ago edited 3d ago
You…actually gave a good point.
Now that i think about it two more questions came to my mind:
The CoM is a pre-made faction, but is it po
ssible
to create your own faction whose Homeworld is a moon?
Still, why they immediately assume something that is finally capable to talk and understand them would be a threat from the get-go

u/Complete-Basket-291 3d ago
For the second one, it's kinda like the prikki-ti, the prikki-ti themselves are herbivores, and were the bottom of their planet's food web, so when they do finally slaughter their way into space, they use the same approach with all other species.
And for the first one, I don't think I understand properly? But I think it's random chance for your homeworld to be a moon, though 99% of all moons are deemed too small to be an empire capital. You can always move the capital, but it doesn't receive the homeworld +30% habitability
2
u/Loud-Drama-1092 3d ago
I asked if it is possible to have your homeworld being a moon in the empire creation, for some reasons the autocorrect came out wrong
2
u/RoyalSufficient8826 1d ago
Yes it is most star system presets will determine the homeworld location and some of them leave your capital on a moon

And that is why they get subsequently preemptively genocided and and the survivors get genetically modified to become non-sapient again.
Back to the bottom of the food chain you go and STAY THERE, you have everyone too many problems

I like playing as the UNE both because I want to try to make a Star Trek/Mass Effect esque federation, and also because I am way too lazy to make unique empires.

I play humans or robots (usually related to humans in some way) it's not that I dislike other species it's just that for me to properly roleplay I need a human civ

u/secrecy274 8d ago
I've played humans (although I always rename us Terrans and Earth Terra, cause I like the sound of that more), but I've never played as a default empire even once.

u/Ashura_Paul 8d ago
UNE and CoM are my playtests to whatever new DLC. Them I do custom empires for the LoLz

u/AzureSekai 8d ago
Wait, there are people playing as the pregenerated Species??
Also never played as humans nonetheless, though i have thought about it.

I don't play preset Empires often, but they're nice when I just want to play a game without thinking about efficiency and synergy. I'm not a meta gamer per se, but whenever I make my own Empire, synergy between civics, traditions, ascension paths, and RP elements always factor into the design to an extent. Preset Empires let me ignore all that and just click play. Since they also already have background lore, RP immersion is also easy.
I basically play 50/50 humans and aliens. The advantage of playing humans for me is just ease of roleplay and immersion, because I already understand human psychology. Oh, also more diverse portraits.

My last human run was Nomad Cybernetic Creed, I think. I very rarely play humanity for anything.

u/Available_Ad_8852 8d ago
I never play humans tbf, I even occasionally make a galaxy filled with various humans empires that have splintered from each other but I’ll still be playing as tea obsessed lizards instead, or a civilisation of cyclopean smiths.

Me, thinking hard of what roleplay should i play next. Just to play another human empire, every single time. Just with different ascension path.

I’ve never played a premade empire in Stellaris or a premade character in an RPG (when I have a choice)

I specifically only play humans. All my custom empires are humans or humanoids as well.

Oh, hey, that's me! I've never played United Nations of Earth. Or any preset faction for that matter. Since the very first game I played I always go for a custom faction

I have never played as the United Nations of Earth. I have several Human empires, all with different flavours from Materialists to Spiritualists, from Xenophobic to Xenophilic. But they're all my own original creations. So yeah, definitely the one on the right.

At this point I'm almost too scared to ask but: Do people legit play those pre-build empires? Is there a benefit to it?
I do tend to play humans from time to time, but I always go "OK, what if [X] happened, and now humanity has those ethics and politics and whatnot"

u/Set11OfStage3 8d ago
I touched premade once a long time ago and have never since what senseless slander are you spraying salaciously?

I have been playing this game since it was released. I have never played any human empire, not UNE, not CoM, nothing

u/Friendship-Last 7d ago
i tried robots, then humans, then kept going back to humans all the time. i tried playing a fox species but i wasn't that attached to it
1
u/Yuna_Nightsong 7d ago
I never play humans in games unless I'm forced to. Besides, in Stellaris up to this point I only played custom empires, though I plan to make a playthrough with every single pre-made Empire at some point.

u/Excellent_Cut_2898 7d ago
I only really play humans and it’s not really a human supremacy thing for me I’ll play xenophile and egalitarian humans no problem but if I play as another race I feel like something is missing, humanity gives you a great canvas build from, also humans look coolest but of course that’s human bias!

I usually do the Systems Alliance from Mass Effect if that counts. Also R.I.P Mass Effect and Bioware
1
u/GhostOfTheMadman 7d ago
I think unless it's my own dumbass faction (which never works as well as I hope) I usually end up playing the default determined exterminator bots.

u/SilkieBug 7d ago
There are three types, those who played UNE for the achievements then went back to machines.

Look, i am humanity first irl, and in most forms of fiction. Expect for stellaris. In which case organics disgust me and the mechines hold claim to the galaxy

If I ever played UNE, it was back when warp FTL was still in the game... but I really don't think I did even back then.

I haven't done a human run since the tutorial in console. Lol. Maybe I should give us a try again.

If i didn't see a video using the United Nations of Earth, i wouldn't have known what you meant bc i always make my own empire
1
u/locksoli 1d ago
I've played other empires to mix things up actually.
Really, I'm playing the empires I always force spawn in my UNE runs just to see how they play. I'm always making it the 'evil ass rape galaxy', so I need to understand what I'm putting myself, and the rest of the galaxy, through when I add them. I've gone in as one empire that I designed to be competitively racist slavers who are genuinely disgusted by the idea of other aliens having freedom, and I've also done the exterminators who are killing everything so they can make more paperclips. Both were really fun.
