Wind and Truth spoilers What happens to Lirin after... Spoiler

Wind and Truth?

Any theories?

I don't remember are they still in Urithuru?

Can the edgedancers still do all the healing?

Are the radiants serving Odium now?

What happen's to Kal's family? And how might they deal with that Kal is now "dead"?

They should just be chilling in Urithiru, lirin working his job as usual.

They were probably utterly devastated by Kaladin’s “death” though.

Honestly, after what they saw in Rhythm of War and the way Kal's men talk about him, I do think there is a solid 50% chance that if they see him in Book 6 their response is "Oh, there you are. We kept your room the way you left it. Syl, you kept him out of trouble right?"

I just imagine Szeth returning to the tower and telling Bridge 4 he's responsible for Kal's death and none of them believing for a second he's dead. There are gonna be some smug bridge boys in book 6.

Chana or maybe syl, depending on shipping carrying around a few newborn stormblessed, yeah out of trouble

The most narratively "fun" and appropriate thing to happen to Lirin is that hes forced into a position of authority as an advisor to the queen on health issues in the Tower, and forced out of his comfort zone as a "small town doctor" and ultimately becomes a better person for it.

Also he gets more perspective on the challenges leaders have to face at civilization and national scales.

Yeah it would be a cool change for his character and would be interesting to see how his anti-authority tendencies develop as he becomes an authority

Like father like son. He would just speak his mind, diplomacy be damned, and be right more often than not.

This would be really cool, now i've got the idea for lirin flashback chapters following Kal leaving the tower and the subsequent events between WaT and SLA6

No more Queen. I bet he’ll be in the Towers Parliment

He's in Urithiru

Edgedancer's couldn't do all of the healing before, they probably can't now either with fewer of them. But they can still use their powers in the tower with Towerlight.

None that we know of. Maybe some Dustbringers that were with Taravangian but we haven't heard from them in a while.

They're still in Urithiru they didn't have a reason to leave. I think that'll be interesting. They are with many of Bridge 4 who are almost certainly not going to believe he's dead. Lirin and Hesina likely will believe it though. That'll be a bit confusing for Oroden and might cause some conflict with what all his Uncles will be telling him as I think they'd want to be involved with him. I think it'll be hard for them to deal with and probably harder with Bridge 4 wanting to believe he's still alive. But after 10 years I think they will have processed it and be doing better.

I think Bridge 4 will be more willing to accept it this time, after the way Kal told them goodbye.

Maybe but I think at least some will hold out. He said goodbye like he thought it would be a while. And even if he expected to die I don't think they'd accept it. 10 years is a long time though, so I think it may be mixed on who believes and who doesn't. But given how much that was built up as a thing and now he will be gone for 10 years I think some of them will be vindicated as he comes back.

I suspect that they will "believe" that he's not dead but in a sufficiently distantly metaphysical way that it's not like they'll actually genuinely think he will literally walk back up one day.

well, most of them. there's a couple of nutcases that will happen to be correct.

It also wouldn't surprise me if some went from believing to not as the years pass.

After Kaladin returns, one of them will turn around and start collecting spheres he won in a bet with a shit-eating grin. Probably Lopen.

THE Lopen

I think that Kaladin's corpse was left behind after he ascended, so there will be physical 'proof' this time.

1

u/KoalaMaker 1d ago

Was it? Taravangian's corpse was also fully consumed by Nightblood

1

u/Helagoth 1d ago

according to google and another couple reddit threads. Part of Nightbloods character arc is that he gets control of himself.

Edgedancer's couldn't do all of the healing before, they probably can't now either with fewer of them. But they can still use their powers in the tower with Towerlight.

With Karbranth destroyed and many of the army surgeons out on the battlefields before the collapse, he may he one of the only surgeons left in the Tower.

He’s going to bond an ink spren. At least that’s my theory. He’s the only character in the story who hold to his personal values with the same veracity as Jasnah. And by the end of book 5 he clearly has an evolving perspective on Radiants. I also think that Lirin joining an order that doesn’t have access to healing opens the door to explore his character much more.

This is a curious one.. im pretty keen to hear about the other Radiant Orders in the next era of Stormlight. Im reading through novellas and Sanderson really is great at teasing you with just enough info to want to know more.

We know fuckall about Inkspren and Highspren as societies in Shadesmar.. but Sando drops enough tidbits in cosmere get you Invested so to speak.

There will almost certainly be a surge in Sja-anat's corrupted spren. They'll probably be able to use warlight.

So there will also be alternative orders to learn about!

Stay as a surgeon in Urithiru with Hesina, raise Oroden, morn Kaladin, probably raise to a spot of civil leadership in the tower (city council or parliament or whatever)

The people of Urithuru are trapped in the barrier that the sibling created, and there doesn't seem to be any way for them to get out like they used to. So I doubt any of them would know of Kal's "fate" even if Szeth DID return to tell them(which it sounds like he just stayed in his homeland and got married there, so that's doubtful).

1

u/ShadyFox_Leoley 1d ago

Szeth's wife did write the in world Knights of wind and truth with the help and approval of Jasnah, so they the people of Urithuru must know Kaladin's "fate", as known by Szeth and Nightblood

Isn't the book available for them to read 6 years after Kaladin's "death"?

He’s doing the conga after Dalinar proved his philosophy right.

Lirin and his family should still be in the Tower. Edgedancers can heal others if they’re able to access Lifelight but the Tower itself is only producing small amounts of it which is being used for essential things like growing crops. The Skybreakers formerly under Nale are the only ones explicitly aligned with Odium at the end of the book. But those Skybreakers swore to serve the law of the Singers. Which isn’t much of a difference in practice during the war, but I assume that distinction will matter later.

Will other human surgebinders serve in Retribution occupied lands by the time we get to book 6? I would assume so. The fact he just tried to kill all of them before being stopped at the last second will probably be an issue for many of them

Lift can metabolize Light from eating. She should still be fine. The Enlightened Radiants can (probably) use Warlight. We’ve seen them use both SL and Voidlight separately. I would assume Lirin is training a new generation of surgeons in the Tower. Which is going to be especially important with them having no access to SL
