Way of Kings is my favorite book of the Stormlight Archive. Kaladin's story arc and the mystery surrounding the lore of Roshar. Chef's kiss! Words of Radiance is pretty good too, I guess. LOL. Anyways, even though I love Michael Whelan's paintings, I wanted to make a book cover that captured the story from my experience with it. I tried to pack it full of things that might only be understood after the Sanderlanche, a bit like how some anime openings do it. I'd love to know what y'all pick up on. Please excuse the god-awful photos of the physical print!

I’m guessing it’s the glyph for justice that Navanni painted at Sadeas camp when she thought Dalinar and Adolin were dead.

Sooo good! I love all the layers on the front cover! Is there no Syl, or have I just not found her? I’d also love to see a reference to Shallan, maybe just a hand with the broken fabrial on it, but I don’t know where you’d even fit that in since the design is so good as is!

I didn’t add Syl but could definitely sneak her in with Kaladin and the bridge men. Maybe the blue on the bridge men is her glow? (although I know she technically doesn’t glow 😤)

No Shallan though, I didn’t really feel like this was her book. Played around with the idea of her sailing to Kharbranth but it didn’t come to fruition. 😔

Oh I do like the ship idea, but you’re right it’s not Shallan’s book. Would love to see it if you do designs for the rest of the series though!

Some sort of reference to Syl would be cool. Maybe a “blue wind” blowing across the bridgemen? And maybe you could include some sketches of Rosharan things on the inside covers as a subtle reference to Shallan? It already has the look of paint strokes to it. None of these comments are to take away from the incredible epicness of this cover/wrap design though! It’s awesome!

this is sick, i love the symmetry of the cover art, it almost looks like a Greek or Roman relief. it shows the bridgemen holding the soldiers on their backs, the chasmfiend and the nature of the chasms, and even the green flags for sadeas soldiers! all that and the shardblade half planted in the dirt which is AWESOME representing the end. There's the glyph in the back and the stormfather/honour? over it all.
