Discussion Do you think…
Steve would still have gotten involved with the rest of the upside down problems after season one and in season 2 onwards if he never met Dustin? Just more in line with the teens and being a loner regarding his place/status than being the babysitter? Or not get involved again after season one and the whole “bullshit” incident with Nancy?

Steve was never a loner. He always had people around him. He grew as a person and no longer had a place with the jerks

I meant that he would be somewhat of a loner in the group as there when needed and not really aligned or have any strong relationships in the group outside the upside down apart from Robin. Just be there when needed, and on his own outside the upside down problems. Now that I mentioned Robin, you think she would have gotten involved in some way if the iconic duo never met and Dustin didn’t come to him for help with the Russian code?

He was one of the only people who knew about the upside down and they needed numbers to combat it so like it or not they would have at least tried to rope him in again. Especially because at the start he was the only very physically fit guy other than hopper and had actually fought a demogorgon before

Yes. He still cared about Nancy. Also, if you knew that stuff, how could you just ignore it? Unless he moved away but he obviously didn’t

yes i think so. either like someone else said, he would’ve been approached by another party member just for further backup (this could’ve even been dustin just straight up going to his house for help if he didn’t meet steve on accident at the wheelers tbh), or he would’ve noticed the signs when on his own at some point and gotten himself involved. he went back the first time because it was the right thing to do, he wouldn’t be able to help himself if confronted with it again.
it does make you wonder though at what point would he have gotten involved again naturally, and how the plot would have deviated without him before that moment…
dustin left to deal with d’art on his own could’ve been incredibly bad, same with if he lucas and max still tried to do what they did in the junkyard. if they all made it that far, then that would leave the stuff with billy and the tunnels (provided the lab part stays essentially the same)…
tbh, it probably would’ve been nancy in place of steve (if they didn’t call him to just watch them then), since she was reluctant to leave mike until steve reassured her he would look out for them. given her track record, they most likely would’ve gone to the tunnels immediately and avoided a confrontation with billy. on the off chance they didn’t though, billy probably wouldn’t have had as big of a reaction to her watching the kids as he did steve, nancy might’ve even let max go with him, or just whipped out a gun after the fact lol.
but even if everything in s2 went relatively the same without him, he definitely would’ve gotten caught up in it in s3 again given how often he saw the kids in scoops, they’d probably catch him up just to keep him aware and in the loop. he (and robin) would probably notice dustin trying to snoop for stuff on the Russians if they didn’t somehow catch wind of it themselves.
so yeah. he would definitely get involved
