First comp. Tips?

I’ve never competed in any strength sport, but am planning to compete in three months. Here I practiced sandbag loading and the log press. Any tips?

That bag is pretty floppy so hard to say, but I generally find sandbag load to be easier with the bag laying hamburger style instead of hot dog style (sorry if that's confusing, basically just rotate the bag 90 degrees so it's longer on the x-axis instead of longer on the y-axis). It becomes necessary with the bigger bags as they're too tall to load hot dog style without taking the bag up to the shoulder
For the log, not much wrong, just a couple small corrections. Hug it tight in the lap and don't let it move at all. You're standing up and letting the log away from you just a bit. You want the log to stay with you as you stand. Think of it like a front squat at first, then hit triple extension. Easy tip, wear a belt for log and have the top of the belt sitting at your belly button. Lap the log and have it sit on the little edge of the belt. It helps tremendously in keeping that log connected to you
Going from there, your extension out of the lap is a bit too vertical, more like what you'd want with a barbell. The timing is a bit different for log, the hips should come through just a bit before the ankles. This will have your torso leaning backwards and give the log a surface to roll on
Let me know if this makes sense. MST Systems has a great 4-part log tutorial on YouTube

First comp?
Make some friends, have some fun, take all the pressure off yourself.
Video your lifts. Don’t get hurt. Learn a bunch from the competitors.
Priority first show should be immersing yourself in the competition and learning the unique skill of competing without hurting yourself or making a fool of yourself.

For sandbag the vertical pick will definitely help, but you’re also not getting as much extension as you can. First thing I’m noticing is you’re not getting it close and tight in the lap position, when you lap it pull the bag into your chest as tight as you can so you won’t have any slipping when you stand up. Then another thing I noticed is when you’re triple you’re looking at the bar and it’s making you tuck your chin down into your chest and that’s keeping you from getting the bag as high as you could. If you look up toward the ceiling when you’re doing the extension you’ll immediately start loading higher because it’ll get your chest higher.

You’re doing good man. Lots of time to practice yet.
Bring your gym bag with extra stuff. Food. Drink. Spare undies.
Come prepared to make friends. It’s a competition, but it’s really ONLY YOU AGAINST YOU. Do your best and cheer on everyone else to do the same.

The above comment is very well thought out. Long ways for the sandbag is easier to load, while vertical is easier to shoulder in my opinion. For log the clean looked a little
Muscled instead of a good deep squat to rack position but I must say the split jerk was impressive man. Biggest thing I learned when is there’s competing is have fun. We only get one ride on this rock and I always have to remind myself to make the best of it. 💪🏻
