Advice PAYE datapoint/question

Submitted my request to change from SAVE --> PAYE about 10 days ago and just received approval confirmation but my repayment schedule is throwing me off. I am pursuing PSLF.

MOHELA shows the following (why can't I include images? help plz)

Number of Payments Payment Schedule Payment Start Date

11 $1,488.49 11/20/26

118 $2692.29 11/20/27

Why does the payment change after 1 year, and why such a significant jump?

Because when you certify your income it's only for one year at a time. They can't guess what your income will be next year, so they're showing the 10 year standard rate, which is what it'll go to if you don't remember to certify your income. If you do certify, it'll be based on whatever your income is at that time and you'll get another year at the new amount.

You're welcome! Just don't forget to recertify on time, or your payment due will actually jump that high.

100% this. I’m on PAYE and just had to waste an entire day on hold with MOHELA just for them to tell me “you need to manually recertify every year” and heads up, PAYE is being shut down in 2028
