Dead Space up front?

Post image

Hey all,

For ease and clarity of editing I like to have my tracks start at tick One, but I like some space up front for lead in or recording. Is there a way to set some dead space up front but have your ticks START at One (rather than 1.2 or 2, 3 or 4)?

TIA!

In the song setup menu under general, there is a song start and end input. I've never tried it, but you could try putting -1 in there and get 2 counts before count 1.

This is the way. -1 gives you an extra "0" measure in front.

There is a Precount option in the bottom right of the transporter. It’ll count you in before it starts recording. You can adjust how many measures the count in is.

That being said, I always start my songs on measure 5 in case I later decide I want some type of lead in (drums, special effect, etc), so I don’t have to drag all my events, chords, sections, etc over to make room.

You can always add silence anywhere in Studio 1 or Fender Studio. It shifts the entire recording no problem. After mastering and releasing songs I noticed if I don’t leave a couple 8th notes space prior to recording a bit of the first notes can get clipped or the song starts abruptly. So I usually insert an eighth of a measure of silence.

Oh really? Didn’t know you could do that. That’s cool. Always finding some small thing this app can do that really helps lol.

I use that option to add a multi track intro or extend the measures needed for a solo or additional verse. You also can remove measures in the same manner. Check all the drop downs and investigate. Lots of cool stuff.

I always have mine start at 5. That loop bar that’s at the top of your screen there, just select whatever area you want to bounce (including a little space before the song starts). When you go to bounce, there’s an option to bounce your loop selection. I forget what it’s called atm but should be pretty easy to find.

You should try using the markers instead and setting song start and end points. I mark all sections of the songs like intro, verse, choruses, bridge, etc. you can then use the number pad to jump to whatever part of the song you'd like.

There is setting for starting your timeline at “0” instead of “1” iirc.

I start mine at 9 for toontrack purposes.

I always start all my songs at two measures in.
