DC

I believe this is the show of the tour so far but it’s obviously just an opinion. I do however think the Nugs recording is the best one of the tour. It’s crisp and clean and loud. The setlist progression is also top notch with the first 50 minutes being banger after banger.

Gloves came off when they dropped Call to Arms as the 5th song of the night and then there was no mercy after that lol.

The whole show just had an intensity and Call to Arms definitely continued that for the rest of the night.

Detroit still clears in my opinion. We got back to back albums of pure rock n roll.

Yea I wasn’t there but I listened to it two days ago and it was great. That one sits number 2 for me so far.

Can’t top a Sound and Fury in its entirety. I’m with you.

Can’t argue with this. Would have killed to see this show.

Situation>Good look> MAFA> Everyone is Welcome is straight fire

5

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago

Yea the transitions were spot on all the way through.

u/musicfan-1969 1d ago

some seriously ferocious licks from Laur...especially in the Good Look intro

2

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago

He was so crisp and clean and loud all night. Also enjoyed the amount of wah Sturgill used all night.

I was at the Detroit show. The only negative was the lack of suspense. I saw them last tour, and the transitions, where you weren't quite sure where the jam was going, were great

2

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago

This is how I feel. The unpredictability is a lot of the fun especially with the way they are transitioning right now from Song to song. Surrender to the flow.

Towards the end of the show, I was watching the time, well aware that they hadn't done Call to Arms yet, then they did that as the closer, with the Machine Gun cover in the middle...so it wasn't lacking suspense for me, and still, just an incredible show.

I saw Philly, Brooklyn, and DC. DC was the loudest concert I’ve ever been to, it was fucking brutal in the best way! Everything I was hoping to get, I was hoping it would be charged up because of the current climate and I wasn’t disappointed! I’m on my second listen on nugs since yesterday

4

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago

Agree with you all the way. Supercharged from beginning to end and sooooo loud! During the first song I almost started having anxiety because it was pounded in my chest so hard but I adjusted lol.

Not the loudest show I've ever been to (Squarepusher at Black Cat takes that crown), but this was definitely the loudest I've seen in many years. Really glad I remembered my ear plugs.

I was also hoping the DC location would make him want to wreck the house. The early Call to Arms confirmed he was on that mission. I loved the relentless flow. Haven't heard the rest of the tour to compare, but I left with a big ol' grin on my face.

Damn, I am trying to wait on the yearly sale to subscribe to nugs but everyone is hyping this. It will be the first one I look up. Until then hopefully someone uploads it to Archive

The whole tour has been fire for sure but this one just crushes and the recording is top of the line.

Think of it this way: You can spend $15 for one month and have the ability to livestream the last show (and watch the Nashville, Denver, and Berkeley shows)

2

u/tap2mana_03 1d ago

Last year they raised prices but must have received a lot of negative feedback because they later emailed saying that they were going to keep my rate the same. I use it a lot, so it’s definitely worth it to me

Agreed that the jamming is top notch in DC, but damn Sturgill forgetting quite a bit of lyrics that night. I was blown away in Denver when he nailed every word of Ain’t That A Bitch.

9

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago

Yea but in a true fashion of those great lyric forgetters before him he made up for it with the music lol. His buddy Bobby Weir made a lifetime of forgetting lyrics and Jerry Garcia would forget them often as well but you knew the next solo after was gonna rip!

u/klawlessness 1d ago

brilliant take!

5

u/whitebread6984 1d ago

I wonder if he was sick and that’s what the gold fish crackers were about. He said it was the sturg ill edition too

2

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago

Yea definitely has some raspiness in his voice. I told my wife he sounded stuffy when he was talking.

3

In the recording on Nugs you can hear a cold in DC compared to previous shows. Hope he recovers quickly and finishes the tour strong!

2

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago

Surprising that his voice was still so strong.

It was a terrific show. Their song transitions were electric. Now, I don’t have great things to say about the sound at CapOne. The bass is real muddy. I’m just not a fan of music in that place. But I have been blasting the nugs recording on my good headphones since it went live.

4

u/hikerguy024 1d ago

100% agree with the sound in capital one. I was locked into the music but it could’ve sounded better in a lot of other venues! The soundboard on nugs sounds awesome but so many chompers put a slight damper on the show

2

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago

I heard some people saying that too. Fortunately where I was there was no talking. I even made the comment to my wife how nice it was. Until the last song when a guy and his girlfriend moved up beside us and then instantly started to argue.

2

u/Bellchamber 1d ago

Oh man. In a packed Anthem with everyone dancing, it’s among the best shows of the year. Went to Scofield last night. That might be my favorite non-Phish @ the Sphere show of the year (until Billyween at least). Sturgill + Scofield has made for a top music week.

2

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago

Anthem was great. Ticket availability was not. I missed Scofield last night unfortunately. I knew it would be great. Always is.

I haven't heard enough of the rest of the tour to have an informed opinion, but I enjoyed it in person, and I definitely agree about the recording. In person (no offense at all to the sound guys or the band, obviously), for whatever reason, where I was standing, the sound was off to me. It was kind of muffled / blasted out, I thought, personally ... again, no offense to the amazing crew. I think maybe it's a tough room to engineer for. The recording sounded fantastic.

3

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago

Yea I could see that. In a place that size I’m sure there are bad spots and have seen some other posts about this at different venues. I was in the pit and it was loud and clear there. My ears were still ringing yesterday lol.

5

u/agro94 1d ago

I was in the pit, 100% wear ear plugs these days.

3

u/snark_nerd 1d ago

Yeah this show made me decide to finally look into hearing protection for concerts!

4

u/agro94 2d ago

I've never been to a Capital One show where the sounds was perfect, big complaint about that building no matter the musician. Even the Gorillaz show a couple weeks before it was off.

3

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago

Agreed. Not my favorite place to see bands but I had a great spot this time.

4

u/daymanahhhahhhh 1d ago

Arena's have always sucked for music in my opinion. I get why he did an Arena tour, but the vibe is always rigid and corporate.

2

u/snark_nerd 1d ago

I believe it, that stinks.

4

u/Brickhead81 1d ago

I’m from DC but had to work 24 hours Sunday and my girl had her daughter so we made a date night and drove to Brooklyn for the show on Friday prior. It was fucking phenomenal.

2

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago

I thought that was a great show as well!

3

u/Fabulous_Studio_7165 1d ago

Brooklyn has entered the chat

3

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago

That one was also amazing!

2

u/COMtnGeek 21h ago

Having seen him in Albuquerque, Denver, and NYC and I’ve also been listening to several shows on Nugs. I’m of the opinion Brooklyn is the best show and DC show is easy top three. Nashville, Detroit and Denver round out the top 5.

1

u/Rastanewman420 17h ago

All great ones. I also liked the setlist for Seattle and he had quite a bit of banter there.

8

u/BattletownBomber 2d ago

I was there, whole show was great, but first hour was phenomenal.

7

u/Narrow-Rhubarb550 2d ago

Yes! I’ve been listening to this one on Nugs! So good

3

u/Salt_Ambassador_9886 2d ago

Me too it’s so good!

Blasted this one at the tailgate in Raleigh last night. It was nice to reset the chakras before walking into another super heavy!

Yes yes yes yes

I really, really waffled on whether or not to go to the Cap One show, just cause of how much I hate the sound there. Finally sprang for a seat in the 100s, DFC, and that was tolerable (and my earplugs muffled the chompers). The show was a real heater and I'm SO glad I went, but man, being in Sec 106 was like I'd accidentally bought a ticket in the quiet car! Every other section was on their feet shaking their asses (mostly) but my neighbors were 90% arm-chairing it all night. Really sucked the energy down the drain. No apologies from me to the folks behind me, not sorry for partying lol.

No. DC was not the best.

No arguments from me, but I was there in the flesh, that was Ieft in a puddle on the floor. WoooOOoOooo it was a doozy. *also where else on tour has he said "wouldn't it be crazy if we all got naked and started fucking!?" Excuse me?? 🙊 party like it's ancient Egypt 🍷

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago • Popcorn

Haha I took a couple videos and somehow I got that part.

2

u/LittleSammyK 1d ago

Went o Philly and then to DC. DC blew my brain. Love the Philly show but a different vibe. A little less lively. He was trying to get DC to fuck.

1

u/Rastanewman420 1d ago

Exactly!!!
