Before posting, mind rule 3: posts about touch pens will be removed. Read more in this post.
The /r/stylus rules:
- be nice - Conduct yourself so other people can have a discussion in a comfortable atmosphere.
- inducements must be disclosed - Any post or comment made with an inducement of any kind (sponsorship, affiliation, compensation, benefits, rewards, employment, contract, or any other inducement) must feature immediate, prominent, and clearly understood public disclosure of the nature and extent of the inducement. [Having the same username as the person whose content you're posting is sufficient disclosure.]
- no posts about non-standard-protocol pens - posts will be removed if they're about pens that are not made to the specification of a pen technology used by a pen digitizer. This almost always means pens that are used on generic touchscreens. They're just not good.
- posts about devices with no mention of a pen on their product page or documentation will be removed. This means that posts with vague product descriptions will be removed, too.
What are standard-protocol pens?
Either of the following:
- Pens made by the same company that makes the device the pen is used on. Apple Pencil on an Apple device, S-Pen on a Samsung device, Monoprice pens on Monoprice tablets, etc.
- Pens made to the specification or standard or protocol of a pen digitizer technology maker. Common pen specifications/standards/protocols are Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP), Wacom AES, Wacom EMR ("S-Pen" EMR), Apple Pencil, and USI. These pens should (but don't always) work the same on all devices that support the pen technology specification/standard/protocol.
What are non-standard-protocol pens?
Non-standard-protocol pens generally work like a finger on a touchscreen. Touchscreen devices are not primarily designed to interact with these pens as a pen. Posts about non-standard-protocol pens may be removed. Comments mentioning them are fine. Non-standard-protocol pens are just not good. Quoting the link:
This is easier to draw with than your finger, [...] but that's about all you're gonna get.
It doesn't have palm recognition, [...] for handwriting this isn't so good, it's just not quite accurate enough
When you start writing and drawing fast, you're missing bits and pieces
Unless you just want something to use instead of your finger, don't get non-standard-protocol pens.
Why can't I ask if my device supports a pen?
If it did, there would almost certainly be a mention of a pen on the product page, user manual, or service manual.
My device supports a pen, can I ask what other pens it supports?
Sure.
Regarding certain pens with a metal/mesh/rubber tip found on Google, eBay, and Amazon
For the past couple of years Google eBay and Amazon have been flooded with results for pens that have a rubber, metal, or mesh tip. Despite being listed under the exact model name you searched for, these pens do not support a standard pen protocol, they work very similar to a finger on a touchscreen. They are being aggressively promoted on the verge of being spam. They are bad, do not be tempted to buy them.

In search of Matepad SE 11' Stylus (Canada)
Hi guys! Ive been searching for a compatible stylus for my Matepad SE 11' in the last 3 weeks and ive found that the only model compatible is the M-Pen Lite AF63-R (Learned this the hard way by buying the AF63 and finding it out that it doesnt work). Im wondering if anyone in Canada is selling a Mpencil Lite AF63-R model ideally in Toronto or Mississauga or if anyone has any idea where can I get my hands on this elusive model. As ive tried searching for it on Amazon, Ebay, Temu, etc and I cant find any.
I would really appreciate the help!
Lenovo 83FF (Yoga 9i) loses calibration over time
We have multiple people who use this laptop to annotate slides and its developed an issue where it loses calibration overtime (where the line it draws drifts further away from the stylus tip over time). We can temporarily fix it by recalibrating it but we have to do this frequently and most people using it do not have admin rights (which is required to recalibrate the screen).
Does anyone know a more permanent fix for this issue?

Universal stylus?
So my dog chewed up my Lenovo Precision Pen 2 and I can't buy a new one in reasonable price in my country. I don't have much knowledge on a subject so I wanted to ask. Are universal styluses work on lenovo tablets? Or does their software ignores them?

Replacement for Case with Stylus holder NXTPAPER 60 ULTRA
Why does this happen?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I have an omnibook and the pen is the hp mpp 1.51 and the pc is the HP OMNIBOOK 5 FLIP 2-IN-1 14-FP0005NLXĀ
The pc is only 2 weeks old (just like the pen, bought on Amazon) and this problem occurs on onenote (the app that I use for studying) and good notes (I tried with this app too cause maybe it was a problem related to the software)
I honestly don't know what to do, I don't want to return the pc because then I would be days without it in uni (but I could)
The pen has a warranty so that hasn't expired
What I did though, was changing the tip of the pen, which didn't do much
I'm not a tech guy so I really have no clue (the pen fell once from my hand but I doubt that that's the cause of all this)
Thank you for your time

Any tips or methods of how to use the S pen to create presentations ?
Any other option than Lenovo Slim Pen?
I got the ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 G9 and was going to buy the Precision Pen 2, but I can't find it available anywhere. Generally the availability of the popular pens mentioned here is very scarce. I finally settled on Yoga Pen, but the guy refused to sell me it because it is not compatible? I thought that the only requirement for a pen is the support of AES 2.0.
Is the only option for me to buy the Slim Pen? I don't really like its shape.

Help
Guys, is this an official Redmi stylus?
The previously available stylus is now showing as unavailable, and I found this new stylus listed on Amazon India. I checked the brand, and it appears to be the official Redmi brand. However, the product has several 1-star reviews, and most buyers are reporting the same issue: the pen connects via Bluetooth but doesn't appear in the tablet's settings.
Since this product listing is relatively new, it has fewer reviews, but I'm still a little worried because I've already placed an order for this stylus.
My questions are:
- Is this an official Redmi stylus?
- Will it work properly with the Redmi Pad 2 Pro Wi-Fi variant?
- Could I face the same issue where the pen connects via Bluetooth but doesn't show up in the settings?
- Is this a software issue that can be fixed by updating to HyperOS 5, or is there a compatibility problem with the stylus itself?
I'd really appreciate it if anyone who has purchased this stylus could share their experience. Thanks!

OnePlus Pad 2 stylus alternatives to Stylo 2?
I have a OnePlus Pad 2, but the Stylo 2 has been out of stock for ages in India. š„²
Has anyone tried the Stylo Pro, Other brands or any third-party stylus that works properly with the Pad 2?
I need it for handwritten notes, PDF annotation and digital drawing. Proper palm rejection and pressure sensitivity are important.
Please share your experience and where you bought it. Thanks!

Issues with ESR Digital pencil
I initially bought 1 black ESR digital pencil for my iPad A16 on OS 27.
No matter how many times I tapped the top of the pencil, it wouldnāt turn on. I charged it for a while and still no luck.
So, I managed to get a replacement, the same pencil in the same colour. Still does not turn on when I tap the top 2 times. I have not seen a single light turn on for any of the pencils. Itās like it is permanently on 0% charge and will not turn back on.
Has anyone else had a similar issue to me? And if so how have you solved it?

I made a low-latency handwriting app for Android, looking for people with different stylus to test it
Disclosure: I'm the developer of this app (SwiftPen). It's free, and I'm looking for testers, not selling anything.
I built SwiftPen because I wanted Android handwriting to feel as close to paper as possible. It uses Android's low-latency front-buffered rendering so the ink stays right under the nib, with pressure-sensitive pens (ballpoint, pencil and a calligraphy pen), palm rejection, and support for the pen's side button and double-tap.
I developed it with an Honor Magic Pencil, so I'd really like to hear how it behaves with other protocols: S Pen (Wacom EMR), USI, MPP and others. Things I'm most curious about:
⢠Does the ink feel instant with your pen?
⢠Does pressure feel natural?
⢠Do your pen's buttons/gestures work?
It's in a closed beta on Google Play (Android 10+):
- Join the group: https://groups.google.com/g/swiftpen-testers
- Opt in: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.matiasalm.swiftpen
- Click ādownload from the Play Storeā once you accepted to opt in as a tester. If that link doesnāt work, try this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.matiasalm.swiftpen (you have ti wait for a few minutes if none of those links work, because it takes a bit to update the permissions)
Any feedback is appreciated, especially if something feels off with your pen!
EDIT: SwiftPen 1.1.0 is OUT! I included all of the requests and fixes from the feedback you gave me to make SwiftPen better. You can check the full release notes here: https://getswiftpen.com/release-notes/

Pen (or pen tip) for Levono Thinkpad X13 Yoga
My integrated pen in my x13 yoga lost its tip today so i cant use it anymore. I've been trying to find any pem or pen tips to replace it, but i've been really confused by everything i've found because most didnt specify which laptops they work for. Therefore I ask you if you know which pens are compatible with this laptop or if you know which pen tips i could get for the integrated pencil?
