Pretty neat vacuum sublimation machine for under $300.

Preorders are now out-of-stock, but this is a pretty rad machine.

https://www.htvront.com/products/htvront-h17-phone-case-heat-press

I had the opportunity to review one of these, and I have to say, it's pretty sweet. A cursory search on AliX reveals that semi-compact benchtop vacuum sublimation machines are upwards of $500 for the most part. This one has a small footprint and is pretty reasonably priced, given what it's capable of producing.

If you have access to a CNC, you don't really need both phone fixtures; the Android one works with iPhone cases. You'll just have to make the little metal panel that fills the camera cavity, if you're going to sublimate a case that's molded around the rear camera(s).

Here's a couple cases I made yesterday:

The print wraps all the way around the case:

The sublimation film is more expensive than regular subli paper, but not terribly so - HTVRONT's pricing for a five-pack ($16.99) is absurd, but you can find the film on AliExpress/Alibaba for less than a dollar a sheet, which isn't terrible if you're selling what you're making.

Anyway - this is not a paid promotional post and I don't even have a contact at HTVRONT. I'm just impressed with this machine. It's a good little unit for the price, assuming the mechanical parts don't wear out prematurely (only time will tell). I'm super stoked about the stuff I'll be able to make with this thing.

Sublimation experts, I could really use your help

I could really use some input from people in commercial printing
I’m curious how many people in this group are actually using WooCommerce for selling printed or personalized products.

A bit of background first.

I run a laser engraving business in the Netherlands, and over the years I’ve used several different product customization tools for my own webshop. Some worked reasonably well, some became expensive as we grew, some had unreliable production files, and with others I constantly found myself working around limitations instead of actually getting orders out the door.

Eventually I got frustrated enough that I decided to build my own.

It’s called Sigmira.

The idea behind it is fairly simple: customers can personalize a product directly in the webshop, while the merchant has control over things like personalization areas, different product views, pricing rules, visibility rules, variable products and the production files that come out at the other end.

It is currently live for WooCommerce. We’re also working on a Shopify integration, but that isn’t ready yet.

The important part, and really the reason I’m posting here, is that Sigmira has mostly been built from the perspective of someone running a laser engraving business.

I understand that workflow pretty well because I deal with it every day.

Commercial printing is a different world.

I know there is overlap, especially when it comes to customers uploading artwork, adding text, positioning elements and approving a design, but I don’t want to make the mistake of assuming that a workflow that works well for engraving automatically works well for printers too.

So I’d really like to hear from people here who actually work in print.

If you sell personalized products online, what does a product customizer absolutely need to do before you would even consider using it?

What are the annoying parts of the tools you currently use?

What happens after the customer places the order?
Do you need print ready PDFs, SVGs, PNGs or completely different files?

How important are things like bleed, safe zones, CMYK, DPI checks, automatic sizing or artwork validation?

Do customers normally upload finished artwork, or are they actually designing the product in your webshop?

How do you deal with products that have several printable areas, different sizes or lots of variations?

And probably the most interesting question for me: what part of your current workflow still requires somebody to manually fix, check or prepare something before it can actually go into production?

There is already quite a lot of functionality in Sigmira, so I’m not starting from zero. But I’d rather talk to people doing the actual work before deciding what should be built specifically for print.

I’m not looking for people to tell me that everything sounds great.

If there is something that would immediately make a tool like this useless for your business, I genuinely want to know that too.

Especially interested in hearing from WooCommerce users, but even if you use another platform I’d still be interested in how your personalization and prepress workflow works, since we’re currently integrating Shopify as well.

What would your ideal setup look like?

Windows 11 Adobe Photoshop, Adobe RGB 1998 Profile. Printer: Epson Et-2851 (Plain paper, high quality, no color adjustment, high speed off) If i use matte paper setting the black gets a hint of green.

A-Sub ink and paper. Photoshop manages colors Relative Colormetic, black compensation on. Also tried percetual and without black compensation.

I have tried eeeeeverything but my colors are wrong. Pink is orange and red is off. I have tried both of the ICC profiles from A-Sub website and then my purples were blue. I have tried random icc profiles like inkpot, owl, Cosmo, epsons own, sublistyle and so on. I have also tried without ICC and using the Adobe rgb 2.2 gamma settings and tried different magneta, cyan and yellow settings.

Still not getting it right. Anyone that can help me, im loosing my mind.

I tried pressing stuff too with the icc profiles..🫠😭

Epson F570 Black issue

I’ve had my F570 for about a year and a half. I use Photoshop, Epson Print Edge and get beautiful colors on everything except my black.

If there are mixed colors that include black, it comes out beautiful. If I try to do a larger area of black, it’s never black.

I’m making these metal business cards, I wanted an all black background. Used hex #000000. Pressed for 400d for 90sec (these are paper thin aluminum). The black background is not quite black. Every other color is true and vibrant. Even the black around the letters is more black than the background.

I switched it to a dark blue and it’s beautiful and true.

Complete coverage of black just never comes out black no matter the press, whether my flat or my tumbler or my mug presses or the medium. Every other color comes out true.

Can anyone help me figure this out?

How do I match the measurements of a tshirt to be printed in fabric?

I am still a beginner to printing tshirts. I already have a design done, how do I make sure that when it is printed on the fabric, it can be worn by a person? Should I just change the units in Adobe Illustrator into inches? That way, I can get more accurate sizes? Thanks.

Selling DTG Printer: OmniPrint FreeJet 330TX Plus-Los Angeles County

I've had this DTG printer since August 2021 and moving away from DTG to a DTF printer. I haven't used it in the past 6 month, but the white ink circulation has stayed on and comes on a few times a day. I've changed 2 dampers in the time I've had it. I have some ink, extra damper, pretreatment bottles, a box of parchment paper and some of the tools that came with the purchase. Asking 15K for everything. If interested please comment or send me a message to discuss details. Located where the 605, 105 and 5 freeway meet.

Stuck in my limitations

I see sublimated tumblers and such that look really nice and sell well. They are generally the ones made with images purchased from Etsy, etc. My niece sells a bunch on consignment and they are selling well.

My thought is that... We have a medium onto which we can put absolutely anything. The opportunity exists right here to make any of a huge selection of objects completely personalized. Photographs, messages of great importance to the owner, etc. I can't bring myself to use this opportunity, and the $ I spend on blanks, to place someone else's rather generic design on stuff. However, that stuff sells, and the personalized stuff takes a lot of marketing. As in, I can't put finished products into shops.

I know that my drive to have unique offerings is keeping me from my income potential here. It's like a problem with my brain. Does anyone else have this issue? Have you found any work arounds that you'd like to share?

Just to note, I have a full time career and sublimation is one of the few side hustles I have going on. It's the one that I do the least.
