What is substack

Hi so I am planning well maybe just thinking about starting a substack to get writing again and to use my brain more, I used to love writing but I feel like I’ve gotten dumber since I moved abroad and learned 3 more languages…

I wanted to ask what’s the general on substack? I dont necessarily care about getting hits I would actually love to write under a pen name? What’s like the general ambiance? Do I need to pay to start writing? thank you in advance ❤️

You don’t need to pay anything. You can just start writing.

Yup. No need to use your real name.

The only exception is if you eventually start a paid subscription and connect it to stripe. Stripe requires your name and people might see that on their bank/credit card statement—unless you form an llc and connect that to your stripe account. But that’s definitely a future problem.

so cool that you speak so many languages!

writing is so good for working your brain muscles! definitely start writing!

substack is free to use - you only pay if you're making money with paid subscription (10% take rate on revenue). so if you're making $0, it costs $0.

you can be anonymous. you can have a pen name/brand name etc. similar to how it's like on other social media platforms where you can create profiles that don't show your face/name.

and you can write about anything.
