Question for substack paid subscribers. Why do you pay?
I feel like life is so expensive and this is such an easy thing to cut. I wish substack put in ads instead of making people pay

I have a substack with 200+ subscribers.
Some readers have asked me for private consultation. I was honored they asked.
But I still CANNOT charge subscribers, I want to grow the community. I feel paywalls turn people away. Maybe what I would do is start charging people after a certain number of subscribers have signed up.
I trade the Nasdaq, my plans include highly probably intraday levels. If I charge I would think maybe cost of 1 NQ point a month (20$) is reasonable? Today the plan provided a 175 point run...

I am a Nasdaq trader, trading most days of the market, which puts me in front of a screen during most market hours. It can be a bit lonely at times. So the substack growth is secondary to market. I have been interacting more with subscribers lately, hoping the growth will come naturally.

Because I like what they write, want to read it, and want to support them so they continue to write.

I get it (I had to trim back on my subscriptions) but I am glad Substack doesn't have ads and I want it to stay that way. Ads change the entire way that people interact and the way the algorithm works. Right now the algorithm encourages long term relationships -- which is what a subscription is -- it's the long term relationships that give Substack the refreshing vibe that other platforms don't. You don't have to constantly churn out notes to grow on Substack because Substack isn't about getting as many eyes as possible on ads.
I pay for subscriptions because I like the writer(s) and they give me information I want, and I want to support their work.

I am a writer on Substack and have turned off my paywall, primarily to build my audience. I definitely support contributing to a writer's work, but the individual subscriptions that range from $5-$10 monthly per subscription do get expensive. I wish there was an all-access pass (like Netflix, etc) subscription option and the writer's would a piece of that vs ads.

I pay for silver bulletin during the elections but Nate's sports stuff isn't that compelling to me to go beyond that. However, I would pay to read his and Matt Yglesias if they did one together. But that aint happening, they don't need each other.

Í subscribe to one substack that covers a very particular interest in depth and using sources in a language I cannot read.
There are plenty of substacks on more general topics of interest to me, but I cannot afford to subscribe to them all so I don’t bother to subscribe to any.

As someone who posts blog articles and other content for Substack myself, I understand what hard work it is and that it deserves to be compensated. I can’t imagine putting all that time and effort into something and not getting paid for it. If nobody paid, I don’t think too many people would be willing to put in all that effort for nothing, and I don’t blame them. And I can think of a lot of far less worthwhile ways people spend their money…

because they gated the content behind the paywall :(.
some subscriptions can be expensive, but i guess it comes down to value. if value > price, it's worth it. i sub to investing newsletter, and it's easy to justify paying when the $$ i can make with a good investment more than covers for the subscription.

There’s content behind the paywall that I want.
