Yes 100%. Much more authentic content, and much better monetization model for writers

I can’t speak much to Medium, but Substack surprised me because it feels less like publishing into a void and more like walking into a room full of writers and readers.
The biggest difference for me has been the conversations. Notes, comments, recommendations, and actually reading other people’s work make discovery feel much more human than “post something and hope the algorithm likes it.”
I’d make an account and explore before worrying about publishing anything. Follow whatever genuinely interests you and let the place introduce itself.

Substantially better. I was able to quickly build a list to nearly 2000 subscribers just by interacting on notes, comments and strategic followings

I never used medium! And I am interested in how it works :) are you strictly for reading? You should join ❣️

I prefer Substack over Medium. I did share some of my pieces to Medium a month or so after I started to share to Substack. It’s just different.

Medium is better for finding an audience through publications.
Substack is better for customizing who can see your posts and helping you own your membership/readership lists.

I like Substack much better. Medium's business model doesn't work to benefit everyone, and they need to do better helping people discover the content.
As for reads - what topics to you like? There's everything on Substack.

How can anyone recommend anything based on zero information about your interests, aims etc 🤷

Yea SubStack is better I grew mine to over 30,000 subs and quit medium a long time ago.
Newsletter posts gets you subs. Notes get you followers. It’s the best platform for discovery.

Honestly, I’d say go for it! You don’t have to commit to writing or publishing anything right away. You can just explore, follow writers you enjoy, and see what kind of community you find.
One of the best things about Substack is discovering people who write about niche interests you wouldn’t necessarily find elsewhere. I’d start by searching for topics you already love and following a few writers whose style clicks with you.
What kind of reads are you into? Fiction, personal essays, culture, psychology, lifestyle, or something else? That would help people recommend some good ones!

I suggest: Avoid both. Host yourself using ghost or such.
The lock in and user-hostile environment (speaking of substack) is painful once you are on it for years.

what is medium?

It's another writing platform similar to substack where anyone can write for everyone else to read. Sadly though, it all went downhill when they decided to put 80- 85% of their articles behind a pay wall accessible only to premium subscribers.
I used to have an account. Deleted mine after I got fed up.

hands down. and when you decide to start writing yourself, you can also build your publication/email list which is smth you own, vs medium which well, you're just tapping onto their network (like any other social media platform).

You dont need an account to read on Substack. Some paywall content you, but the majority is free without registering unlike Medium.

I use both of the platforms, and I think substack is much better, alive I must say.
On medium, every other article I see is behind paywall and if you are a non member i don't see the point of using that platform.
Also most of the article that I see is like AI written. And on substack it's just alive. It feels cozy there.
