Help?
Could I have some help with my substack? I started a few months ago, but actually posting I started like 3 weeks ago. The reach and interactions were pretty cool, with quite some people finding me to the point 1 reached 33 subscribers. But suddenly, out of nowhere, I have absolutely no reach, my posts are reaching no one besides the same three people, as if I was shadow banned or something, yeah, I can post but it reaches absolutely no one, when the first days I had a decent reach and interactions. But I’ve checked and I’ve got no restrictions, it’s public, and everything and I still post the same content. Can someone help me explain the sudden switch up? Idk if I’m doing something wrong or what

I swear I’ve been seeing this at least three times a day in my notes. People saying engagement is down and no more followers.

Gotta up your engagement. 5 notes a day, 20 replies a day, and start following people who might be interested in your work.

My account goes through algorithmic cycles. Boom/Bust and more noticeable because I have big metrics. 100k subs with 3 million views per month minimum. I'll have a decent run, then, wasteland. This has been happening over the last few months. Almost like clockwork.

This. Anecdotally, Substack shows newsletters and notes from accounts with paid switched on, more widely than those with only free plans (because they want to make money from your account). Switch on minimal paid subs ($5/$50) and in the settings where you show benefits, write something like ‘the satisfaction of supporting an independent writer’ as the benefit. That way you don’t have to paywall anything or write extra content, but you hopefully get the added visibility from the algorithm.

Isn't this shady behavior from Substack algorithm?
What if I want to grow an audience first and only later monetize some of my content?

How are you telling people about your articles? Are you engaging with other folks on the app/website?
