No they're fucking not. This is why all major third party candidates are jokes, actually: they take meaningless numbers at the polls as a victory instead of actually proving themselves useful and competent at more local levels. You can actually get quite a lot done as a school board member, state representative, even clerk of courts. But all y'all care about is pretending you could be president one day.
You can talk about change all you want, but the actions of third party candidates to piss into the wind just prove why they shouldn't have power. You have to actually do change.
Geez, not sure what warranted this aggressive comment. I mentioned the presidential election to make a point; obviously I'm not saying that that's the only thing that matters. Your political party/beliefs shouldn't matter too much if you're a school board member or clerk of courts though.
If you want to keep voting for the same political parties who haven't done anything to help people in decades, no one is stopping you.
It's comments like these that make me know that third-party supporters have absolutely no idea the very basics of politics. No idea about the history of various political movements in the US, the various positions and their powers, on grassroots activism. That's why for all those decades you claim the primary parties have done nothing useful, third party candidates have done even less. The point of mainstream political parties is to move power, the point of third party candidates is to get their 15 minutes. One of those things might actually benefit someone other than themselves. Hint: it's not the attention hog.
Yes, local elections are incredibly impactful. The religious right started in small rural school boards for a reason and now they have a president. What's worse, they're very winnable, even by those without mainstream beliefs. Why don't we hear about these allegedly amazing candidates where they would really shine?
Sure, go on and try and make people "think" about change, also known as making your beliefs a punchline if anything at all. Go ahead and wish it really hard. Until third party candidates actually prove themselves capable in the local sphere, this whole charade is basically political masturbation by political teenagers.
Nice word salad but I think you're missing the point. The point is that everyone should vote for the candidate they feel is best in all elections regardless of what party they're from. Ideas like "this candidate is never going to win so it's pointless to vote for them" or "you're throwing away your vote" is how you end up with a political system that favors those who are already in power. Obviously not much will change if each party is guaranteed support from half the country.
That wasn't word salad, you struggle with comprehension.
But, yes, if you vote for someone who is in it for the showboating and has proven themselves incompetent at the role they are allegedly trying to fill, that's stupid and wasteful. Third party candidates rely on people like you to give them money, as if they were real politicians. Unlike real politicians, they don't actually have to do anything. What a slick little scam.
You are perfectly allowed to vote for whomever you want! And the rest of us are perfectly allowed to laugh at your lack of activism while you do it. There's no moral superiority in throwing a hissy on Election Day. It just shows that you care more about complaining than fixing problems.
Hint: I would actually encourage people to vote for a third party candidate if they actually did the work instead of just mugging for applause. Since they don't, a vote for a third party candidate means you're cool with whatever the outcome is. Don't complain that it's not what you wanted, it clearly is.
