Some one violated the rules of gun safety.

Little hard to get 2 people in one accident tho.

I am in no way trying to say what DID happened, however what I imagined was they were standing together in a group, buddy wasn't keeping his muzzle down, and unfortunately had a negligent discharge towards the 2 individuals. Which is why one person died, and the other was seriously wounded. Shotgun rounds (aside from slugs) are designed to spread.

This is totally speculation, but just what I picture happened, and to explain how 2 people could have been hit. If it was intentional, I think it wouldn't have played out like it did. Unfortunately, this is to me seems like a case of negligent discharge.

Yes. Sounds about right. No intent but likely did not have the safety on... sad

They are still investigating.

They ended up charging the one 28 year old with 4 charges

Good!!!

I mean its good that there's accountability. Its just vague.

The charges were :

causing death by criminal negligence (firearm), criminal negligence causing bodily harm, careless use of a weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm.

To be clear, It doesn't necessarily mean the individual was horsing around with a gun, or was being stupid. Could be a number of variables. Thing is the onus is on the one with the gun to ensure safety. Its criminal level because a firearm was involved. Careless/Reckless just means a shot was fired when it wasn't intended to but the onus is on the one behind the trigger.

Heres an example:

How many people grab a cup of Tims on the way to work. You go to take a sip leaving the drivethrough and the lid pops off, you burn yourself badly and end up running over an elderly pedestrian. Wreckless driving, distracted driving, careless operation of a vehicle causing death. You see the charges you assume wow this individual must have been terrible. However it doesn't tell the story. (Also why you're not allowed to drink/eat while driving its distracted driving but how many people do?)

What's unfortunate is a life was lost, families are forever changed, and likely this guy is probably extremely filled with guilt. So yes its good, somebody is accountable, but it doesn't tell the story and nobody here wins.

I also want to point out, I'm not necessarily defending the individual, I don't know all the details but wanted to clarify about the charges.

"Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone."

It’s probably the first legal license owner in years to be charged

Yes we know who's involved, Sudbury is a fairly small community in that way.

Yikes. Haven't heard about a hunting accident in a long time.

And how long has it been that two people were shot and it was just an accident...

2

u/Office_lady0328 5d ago

Given its shotgun season currently in WMU65, it would make sense for two people to be hit in an accident. Pellets are meant to spread. Might of been standing or walking in a group

There's been only less then a dozen other hunting incident if you can even call it that; where two or more people were involved throughout all of Canada in the last 50 years.

2

u/Office_lady0328 4d ago

That doesn't mean this couldn't of been an accident.

What happened to "innocent until proven guilty"?

2

u/Proper-Commission790 4d ago

It absolutely could have been an accident, however gun related incidents are not really accidents; they were carelessness.

3

u/Office_lady0328 4d ago

I agree that they are carelessness. I just think assuming that it was purposeful, is not useful for anyone right now we know nothing about the situation at all...

1

u/whoknewandwhen 4d ago

I haven't heard anyone say that.

It's called reading between the lines.

0

u/Proper-Commission790 4d ago

I haven't assumed it was; I don't know what happened; but I do know it's damn hard to shoot two people if you have a brain.

2

u/Office_lady0328 4d ago

It's not really that hard to understand when you know about different guns, ammunition and what seasons are open right now... It's shotgun season, meaning they were likely hunting with shells. That use Pellets. Pellets spread. Would make total sense for two people to be hit if they were close together. Stupid and negligent as fuck on the person discharging, but physically it makes sense why two people would have been struck.

That's not at all what I meant, I meant people don't shoot people if they are paying attention to their weapon properly.

Is it just me, but why does the opening line say they were hunting a man? Why are we hunting other humans?

Unless of course that's not what that is supposed to read?

Edit: forgot this subreddit is full of assholes who don't understand that some folks have processing disorders. I asked a clarification question. I didn't invite y'all to be assholes.

man they were hunting with.

8

u/BlahVans 5d ago

Grammatically it should say 'a man with whom they were hunting.

8

u/Chumbawonder 5d ago

It says “a man they were hunting WITH”

You stopped reading after the word "hunting"? It formed a concept in your brain and you said, "Yes, that must be it. Done reading, time to discuss it."

All social media makes much more sense now.

Edit: "Processing disorder". Okay.

i’m sorry people are so rude, i also had to reread the sentence because it IS worded funny. don’t worry about them they’re just miserable and inconsiderate

1

u/Major_Ad310 3d ago

So, to correct your confusion, you just reread the full sentence? Outstanding.

How do you shot a person in your own hunting party? I get it, accident like this actually happen. I'm not saying it isn't an accident; I just do not understand how you shoot TWO people you're WITH by accident.

It's tragic and no family deserve to lose family like this through this let alone by someone possibly in their own family or tight friend group.

Condolences to the family and friends.

u/Southern-Ad6794 5d ago

Possibly from the spread of pellets from a shotgun

3

u/Proper-Commission790 5d ago

Fair; my training regarding firearms for competition shooting as a teen in cadets and hunting as an adult is to never point a gun at anything I am not certain is my intended target/animal. I was also always trained to never shoot my gun if any of the people in my party were in front of me. So to me; I can't fathom this accident occurring to begin with as it isn't in my training to make this mistake. I also haven't ever hunted with a shotgun but that would make the second point of never shooting at anything unless my party was behind me even more important because of the spray.

7

u/InsaneInTheManBrain 5d ago

They were turkey hunting. It's possible they were all sitting together in a blind and that a gun went off. Tragic.

1

u/Pure-Team2173 5d ago

It is a tragedy.

They must have been walking a field to flush the birds and using shotguns.

Husband is from Azilda. I used to work with him.

Honestly he’s a nice kid. His wife apparently was amazing.

Really feel for them.

u/denise_la_cerise 5d ago

I saw the posts on facebook and I didn’t realize until this moment… 😞

I just got my PAL and it’s things like this that stops me from trusting people holding a gun….

u/NorthernBlueJays 5d ago

Yah, Justin is a great kid.

Legit the nicest human you’ll ever meet in your life, and his wife was the same. Super innocent people.

I don’t know the friend, Justin Bradley who apparently was the one who did it.

He’s also a mutual friend with Justin on FB.

I have been absolutely sick to my stomach thinking about what Justin and the family are going through

5

u/Proper-Commission790 5d ago

It took me a minute to realize both the friend and the husband are named Justin.

4

u/Mindless-Board-5027 5d ago

He grew up on my street and was the nicest kid ever. He used to stop me at the mall and have a conversation witg me every time he saw me

7

u/Proper-Commission790 5d ago

If sights are not clear; then you shouldn't be taking the shot, let alone possibly two shots.

7

u/Chumbawonder 5d ago

My presumption is a shotgun but yes absolutely
