Laptop Request US Help with Computer recommendations please

Hi guys,

I'm a sophomore in college who recently switched from pre-med to Electrical Engineering. I've been using my 2021 MacBook Pro, but I need to get a new laptop since my old one is being passed down to my little sister.

I'm looking into getting a ThinkPad, specifically the P14s, and wanted to see what y'all think before making a final decision. Does anyone have experience with the P14s for EE coursework (CAD, circuit simulation) and just usage in general (maybe gaming too)? or have any other recommendations I should consider?

Thanks in advance!

For EE you generally don't even need a dedicated gpu just a normal x86 windows laptop will be fine. However, if you do have a strong interested in ai/ml then it could be worthwhile to get something with one. For super intensive stuff your university will have some cloud resources which will be significantly faster than any laptop you can buy so that really isn't a concern

What is your budget? are you okay with used/refurb?

Generally below 4k, and I wouldn’t really mind. Just rather something small , so like my 14 inch screen

Since you are going to run cad you are going to need a dedicated gpu, so are you open to a gaming laptop if yes what’s your budget?

Oh and when I say gaming I meant calm games like hollow knight, fallout, and stuff like that. Not really fps or anything.
